To ask if anyone else gets texts from random betting companies?

Boring thread, sorry!

I’ve never placed a bet online before, but over the last few months, I’ve been getting texts from random betting companies to get me to place a bet. They’ve recently increased in frequency, so I’ve been getting maybe three or four a week now.

More than anything, they’re annoying and inconvenient, and I want to see if there’s anything I can do to stop getting them.

Their contact details are always hidden, so I can’t report the texts as scam texts. I’ve just been blocking them as contacts after the texts come through.

Just wondering if anyone else also gets these and what the solution is to stop getting them?

Thanks!

No, I've never had them. Perhaps it's because another company has sold your number on?

ComingUpTrumps · 16/03/2024 13:30

It could be, thanks. I’m probably being quite naive as I hadn’t actually thought of that. So many companies say now that they’ll protect your data that I hadn’t really seriously thought that my number could get sold on, but it’s very likely that it has been.

I’ve just found it strange because I’ve never bet online before and these texts seem to be from specific betting companies. I always block the sender and never click on the links in the texts, so they’re more of an annoyance than anything, but I’ve just been confused about why they’re being sent to me in the first place.

It's a spam scam from a data leak (either sold or breach). Block the number and ignore. Never engage with spam or unsolicited messages/emails it just tells them your number and email address is active and you'll get bombarded with junk then.

Thanks Hoodie, that’s helpful. In that case, I’ll just carry on as I have done and just ignore the texts.

I used to get loads of random betting texts too, and it got annoying fast. Switched to แทงบอล for my football bets instead, and it’s way cleaner—no spam popping up all the time. Blocking the numbers helps, but using a proper app or site for betting makes it easier to manage and keeps things fun without getting bombarded by random messages.
