Tinnitus

Posting in AIBU because I'm close to tears and ready to scream. I may unreasonably rip my ear drum out! I had tonsillitis last week. It's gone now and I'm fine but for the last 3 days I've had tinnitus which I've never had before. My ears were really itchy when I had tonsillitis but not anymore. It sounds like a church bell which gets louder every time my heart beats. I can't work properly, I'm distracted when delivering training, I can't sleep. It's driving me mad. Has anyone else had this after a throat infection? Does it just go away? It feels like it's getting louder and I just want it to stop. So much empathy for long term tinnitus sufferers.

Could it be pulsatile tinnitus? Hearing your heartbeat is a symptom. If so, your GP needs to see you to rule out underlying causes which can be quite serious, especially with sudden onset.
The fact you’ve just had an infection though is much more likely as a cause and it is likely to go away from what I understand.

I’m having mine investigated now - I was seen straight away (unheard of in my neck of the woods), and now referred for a hearing test, then ENT after that. Just letting you know that that’s the likely path.

Hope it gets better for you soon - I agree that it’s maddening.
