Neighbour using my drop kerb!

mykerb · 12/03/2024 20:54

A new family have moved in next door - not attached we are a row of two semi's each and so on..
I have a driveway and a dropped kerb. So it goes my drive, pavement and then the dropped kerb.

My next door neighbours have a make shift drive (from previous tenants) but NO dropped kerb, it doesn't help that their neighbours have 4 cars and two permanently parked outside their garden so the new neighbours have nowhere to park except down the road because of it but again not my problem!

They have started driving over my drop kerb to park in the make shift drive, I have started parking on my dropped kerb to make a point of it and I did block them in, to which the woman politely asked if I could move my car so she could reverse out, I told her I don't appreciate her using the kerb to park in, to which she replied that she is going to be getting the curb outside hers dropped but it will take a while due to getting planning permission etc and it's hard to walk down the road with 3 kids and a newborn so it's just been more convenient, but she won't do it again if it bothers me.

Tbh she hasn't had a chance to park there again as I have started parking in front of my drive, on my dropped kerb but my sister has said I'm being petty for no reason and making her life harder and it's not a big deal! And it's really irked me because now I don't know if I'm being unreasonable or not!

This is one of the most childish and petty things I have read on here, and that really says something. Get over yourself!

AbbeFausseMaigre · 12/03/2024 21:22

I think the diagram has actually made it worse. For some reason I'd assumed that the houses were terraced and so your neighbour was having to pull forward right in front of your drive and front windows, and then awkwardly manoeuvre over onto their own side. I could see how that might be a bit annoying. But with the driveways at the sides of the houses, there is plenty of room. I think this is really petty.

Redglitter · 12/03/2024 21:23

You see so many threads on here about nightmare neighbours & how they can make life absolutely miserable for people

Here's a nice polite woman who has driven over a dropped kerb & is doing absolutely no harm in doing so, yet instead of just leaving her to it, particularly when she said she's applied to get her kerb dropped, the OP would rather resort to a breathtaking level of pettiness (& break the law in the process)

How can you get so worked up about such a minor issue

Hopebridge · 12/03/2024 21:23

My neighbour does this sometimes. I paid for the dropped kerb outside of my drive. When they park on the dropped kerb outside of my drive it does cause an obstruction. I haven't said anything but it does cause extra manoeuvring and is an issue for visibility.

In your shoes I would say to them as it's temporary then ok but if they could be mindful not to obstruct your drive please. Paying for dropped kerbs is expensive. When they are parked on it is frustrating and I understand where you're coming from.

Tonkerbea · 12/03/2024 21:23

Just to be clear, you'd rather she couldn't access her own driveway, whilst trying to ferry four kinds around, because she momentarily drives over 'your' dropped kerb?

Ridiculous. I hope you never need to rely on her for a favour.

You are and that is a fact. It may be different in different cities etc and you don't know what town etc op is from. Therefore, you are wrong.

Google dropped kerb

Nope, Delilah is right on this one. Bud.

When you pay, you're paying for a contractor to do the work. The kerb, just like the pavement, is owned by the council. Yes I did Google 'dropped kerbs'. Yes, every site I visited said the same thing.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 12/03/2024 21:24

Drop it OP.

Spectre8 · 12/03/2024 21:24

So much misinformation on here.

If a dropped kerb is for a resident to access their driveway they are allowed to park across their dropped kerb.

If anyone else does the resident has a right to make a complaint and a fine can be issued to the driver of the car parked.

A dropped kerb is only to be used for the residents driveway unless there is an agreement or its Lear thatbits a shared dropped kerb.

Neighbour shouldn't be dousing it as the pavement she ends up going over isn't reinforced. And she should of asked first instead of just presuming it's okay

You are mistaken. Bud.

😂 Love it.

Oh, I hope she does, and neighbour tells her to get fucked.

Vistada · 12/03/2024 21:25

OP - how do you feel when pedestrians walk over your dropped kerb?

Or when pushchairs use it?

Or wheelchair users?

supersonicginandtonic · 12/03/2024 21:26

You
Sound like an absolute 🛎️ end to be honest. Why would you even care if it is making the life of another mum easier. The poor cow has just moved in and is awaiting a dropped kerb. What else can she do?
There is petty and then there is you, which is next level

MiltonNorthern · 12/03/2024 21:26

mykerb · 12/03/2024 21:16

I wish it was, but no I'm real.

Is it really, really worth pissing off your literal direct neighbour by being such a petty twat? Good feeling is priceless and you've destroyed any that may have existed between you.

Usernamechangeforthis12 · 12/03/2024 21:27

I have exactly the same. New neighbours paved the front of theirs for parking but didn’t drop the kerb. Parking is a nightmare round our way so I told them to use my dropped kerb to access their parking until they get theirs sorted. It really makes zero difference to me.

JanglingJack · 12/03/2024 21:27

SpringleDingle · 12/03/2024 21:14

You are THAT neighbour! The bonkers and petty one my nephew would love to refer to as a Karen. Personally I’d just roll my eyes at you.

Yes YABU!!

You really need to educate your nephew (although we all know that you're referring to yourself)

StrawberryEater · 12/03/2024 21:28

If this is real (and I sincerely hope it’s not) then not only are you being unreasonable, but you are a deeply unpleasant person too.

Bumbers · 12/03/2024 21:28

You sounds horrible and petty. What an unpleasant person you are.

OMG this is clearly a reverse or a made up thread, mumsnet WTF is wrong with you tonight, no one is this much of a dick and admits to it! 😂

Right?! Why did I get drawn in!

But they’re not parking on it, they’re just driving up it to get to their own drive way.

OP this is an enhanced level of pettiness, you do realise the curb isn’t yours? Like if you move you can’t take it with you.

Panicatthegarden · 12/03/2024 21:30

mykerb · 12/03/2024 21:04

Yes you are right, I could report them technically for that!

She could report you for blocking a dropped kerb! I'd stop being so petty.

JanglingJack · 12/03/2024 21:31

HereForTheFreeLunch · 12/03/2024 21:24

Drop it OP.

She did.

D'oh!

Agreed.

She has 3 children and a newborn 😵‍💫 when i read that i assumed it MUST be a reverse or just made up to get people frothing at the mouth.

The only explanation i can think of is the OP has a stressfree and undemanding life which means she has reams of bandwidth to not only; Give two hoots about this but to also actively go out of their way to make life harder for another woman...

Just naff behaviour...

KnickerlessParsons · 12/03/2024 21:31

Where's the diagramme?

redalex261 · 12/03/2024 21:31

Erm, it’s not your kerb. It’s a kerb on the border between a public footpath and public road.

The council did you the courtesy of permitting THEIR kerb to be dropped to allow you to traverse THEIR footpath to access your property by car. So ‘dropping’ the kerb does not make it yours, no matter how much you would like this to be true.

I am really glad you have so little to stress about in your daily life. Now please stop being a petty person, no-one and nothing is being harmed by this woman parking on her property - she is doing the exact same as you - driving across the pavement to access her driveway.
