VestibuleVirgin · 12/03/2024 07:15

Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

I rest my case. Another pile on ensued and assumptions that I am racist. It's really disgusting that one cannot voice their option in fear of this. It really is bedtime. A school run to look forward to. Goodnight.

Mate, gleefully (and it was gleeful, with your smug 'I'll just leave this here' post) sharing Twitter posts from a far right supporter (Tommy Robinson can no less) with statements falsely attributed to a black woman in an effort to discredit her stance on racism, on a thread about racist comments made towards her (including wishing she would get shot) does rather invite such assumptions.

Night.

Zero basic rate tax for all frontline healthcare workers? They’re on glue.

Did you vote Labour in 2019?

One week Sunak's standing outside No. 10, holding a press conference about the 'worrying rise of abuse aimed at MPs' - the next his party are trying their hardest to play down the most blatant racism/inciteful language we've heard in quite some time because he wants to hold onto a donation.

The scumbags need to go. ASAP.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/03/2024 23:54

People aren't making assumptions. They are simply making observations.

Hatred never makes the world a better place.

You say you are not affected by hatred but it appears that the younger generation of young white men are affected. They are being radicalised by extremists who are picking up on their alienation caused, in part, by unrelenting hatred of their sex.

You might have the advantage of being a successful man and all criticism therefore bounces off you. Afterall alpha males are not going to weep over a bit of criticism. But don't forget there are many white men who are not successful. They will be affected by criticism, particularly if that criticism is undeserved.

Your last comment is not as profound as you think it is. Racism and misogyny are built on hate. They thrive on hate. They exist because of hate. There is also an abuse of power, but if there was no hate the power would not be abused.

Happily we have created a world where some of the power now lies in the hands of women and black people. You would allow those powerful women and black people to bully unsuccessful men. Shame on you.

There is also a type of man who likes to curry favour with women by criticising other men. He sees his role as a hero, a saviour of women. He is not like other men. He is far better. They might or might not be alpha males.

Hatred can indeed make the world a better place. A hatred of inequality, injustice etc.

I'm neither an alpha or particulary successful, most of my class aren't. It's irrelevant to my point anyway.

Young men being radicalised isn't a new phenomena, the NF was full of them when I was young. The alt-right culture war nonsense, pushing back against feminism & anti-racist progress, is really what's at its core.

If your central premise were true, the radicalised right would be made of of predominantly young working-class men. Yet here, these views are held by our MPs, heads of business, members of the House of Lords. By people like Toby Young & Laurence Fox etc who bleat on about their loss of status/power.

jcyclops · 13/03/2024 00:06

Am I the only person who thinks that in no way should the Tories give the disgusting racist Hester a £10m handout? They should keep that money but refuse any further dealings with him.

Other parties have a history of keeping donations from "dodgy" sources, such as Labour from David Abrahams and Dale Vince, and Lib Dems from Michael Brown. The Michael Brown case is interesting in that other donors attached conditions to their donations that no money should be used to refund Brown.

There is a big difference between legal donations that don't break any rules even though they may come from sources that later prove to be disagreeable, and donations that do break the rules and which should always be returned.

L1ttledrummergirl · 13/03/2024 00:27

Eh. Dale Vince might be a complete twat, (and I have no time for him), but he's not a dodgy source of money.

That he also donates to other causes that you may or may not agree with, doesn't make him dodgy.

I'm going for a lie down now, never thought I'd be defending him.

Better not get too personal, people. Don't want to get the thread pulled, which I think some would love.

That would be the obvious last resort of the patently obvious shills on here...

Cabincrew1 · 13/03/2024 00:43

Many of the Tory party went to Oxbridge but many of them seem to lack intelligence too ! Academic ability does not always translate well in the workplace, or Government.
However this is obviously not the point here..there is an unacceptable amount of aggression towards women in the public eye and this is blatant appalling racism.

Misogyny

Perhaps, rather than giving it back, they should donate it to an anti racist charity? Or spend it on an investigation into racism within the Tory party?

Your philosophy is worse than I thought. It simply means that white men deserve to be hated.

I refuse to look at my son and accept that he deserves to be hated.

And while we are at the hate game your philosophy makes is perfectly acceptable , in fact it compels it, to hate white women because they (well 99.99% of them) failed, until very recently, to speak out against the systematic oppression of women of Colour. They had that right and they failed to exercise it. Buy luckily I try not to hate so just as I won't hate my son as your philosophy compels I won't hate women either. I will leave the hating to others.

I alwys find if so bizarre that people who choose to be so openly and vocally racist then have a strop when people point out they are racist. They are either incredibly stupid, or they think everyone else is so stupid that their racism won’t be noticed. Then again, I am yet to meet a racist who isn’t rather dim, so it shouldn’t surprise me.

No I didn’t. But even Corbyn didn’t propose taking the majority of the employees in the biggest employer in Europe out of the tax system. There’s no comparison. You just can’t help yourself, can you Clav? “Yes but Labour” all the way.

No you re not, Hester is perfectly entitled to donate to who he wishes too, i want to see the Tories wallow in this scandal and not draw a line under it by handing back the money.

Hopefully the Met Police will take her complaint seriously.

cakeorwine · 13/03/2024 06:52

PMQs today.

Last week, the Prime Minister said

"What started as protests on our streets, has descended into intimidation, threats, and planned acts of violence.
Jewish children fearful to wear their school uniform lest it reveal their identity.
Muslim women abused in the street for the actions of a terrorist group they have no connection with.
Now our democracy itself is a target.
Council meetings and local events have been stormed.
MPs do not feel safe in their homes. "

His biggest donor said an MP should be shot. Is the donor an extremist?

With some follow ups:

He also said:

"If we can do that, we can build on our great achievement in creating today’s Britain…
…a country of kind, decent, tolerant people."

When his largest donor says that The Honorable Lady for Hackney makes him want to hate all black women, is that kind, decent and tolerant?

CurlewKate · 13/03/2024 07:00

There seems to be a determined effort by some to redefine racism. They must not succeed. I am SO glad Abbott reported this to the police.

IClaudine · 13/03/2024 07:21

I really hope Starmer puts this front and centre at PMQs. He has a big chink in his armour though- the fact that DA hasn't had the whip reinstated.

I don't think white men are hated or discriminated against. I do think that racist white men don't like their racism being called out and choose to play the victim. There are quite a few on Twitter making a career out of it.

BIossomtoes · 13/03/2024 07:27

You’re falling into the Clav school of logic trap there. It’s irrelevant whether she’s got the whip. She could be a member of any political party, doesn’t matter. Sunak needs to be called out on his ten million reasons for not immediately condemning this horrible racist and his reasons for not handing the money back.

Alexandra2001 · 13/03/2024 07:27

Unbelievable!

Tory Minister on Sky says the comment was racist, BUT he has apologised & is not a racist!!!

Talk about digging a hole for yourself!
