Frank Hestor reportedly said: “It’s like trying not to be racist but you see Diane Abbott on the TV, and you’re just like… you just want to hate all black women because she’s there.
“And I don’t hate all black women at all, but I think she should be shot.
“(The executive) and Diane Abbott need to be shot.”

Abominable, disgusting. Aibu to be incecsed by this?
Money allows all sorts of behaviours apparently, particularly if you give a lot of it to a political party.

Tory donor Frank Hester apologises over 'reprehensible' comments about Diane Abbott

Frank Hester has admitted making ‘rude’ comments about the politician but said they had ‘nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin’

No one defended those comments, clav. It was just pointed out that they weren't his comments

They came out of John McDonnell's mouth and the "stain on humanity" comment was his own creation.

So now you’ve repeated ‘stain on humanity’ does that make them your words, too?

Not all of us do this strange thing you do where you pick a 'side' and flatly refuse to discuss anything your 'side' has done wrong without whataboutery.
It's tedious and to be honest, very immature.

In that case most politicians are tedious and very immature as most of them can't answer a straight question without mentioning the opposing party.

Yes I agree. It's painfully frustrating that almost no politicians, from any parties, answer direct questions with direct answers. Painfully frustrating and annoying,

So you recognise it's tedious when they do it.

But choose to do it constantly yourself.

What an odd choice to make.

So it's money over morals then? At least you're on brand I suppose

Like Gordon Brown you mean and his non-dom friends.

Give it a rest.

I agree with Yvette Cooper -

Labour's Yvette Cooper has said shadow chancellor John McDonnell should "absolutely" apologise for calling former minister Esther McVey a "stain on humanity".

Cool, thanks for sharing.

But now you’ve said the words, by your definition, they are your words, so you should also apologise.

It's amazing Diane Abbot is still an MP to be honest as she is very incompetent, but yeah that was a horrid comment. No need for that tone.

"Tone"? FFS.

Where's your evidence that she's an incompetent constuency MP?

Hester has more. He's got loads more comments about different ethnicities so perhaps Sunak can spend another day sitting on his hands while he decides if it is racist or not.

I don't know whether I did or not. Would you care to provide a link?

fleurneige · 12/03/2024 20:23

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2024 19:49

So the tone is the issue rather than the racism and the sexism?

It's not 'the tone' but the clear incitment to hatred and violence, murder even. Combined with racism and misoginy.

How anyone can compare his comments to 'a stain on humanity' is just bizarre. I believe Farage is a stain on humanity, I would never advocate he is shot.

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 20:26

What's with the weird hashtagging?

ilovesooty · 12/03/2024 20:26

Having trouble with your cut and paste @Clavinova ?

I'm waiting for that link.

Redundantrobin · 12/03/2024 20:27

@Clavinova

you’ve just quoted someone saying ‘Tory filth’. So now those are your words.

are you going to apologise?

Piggywaspushed · 12/03/2024 20:28

Was it a reference to all the sewage they voted to keep pumping into our waters because that is certainly filthy.

Getting rattled clav?

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at No.10 right now following the most recent revelations.

The Tories are going to be forced to hand back that £10m. Sunak should also personally refund the helicopter money.

ilovesooty · 12/03/2024 20:31

Don't worry @Clavinova. I've found it. On 28th March I said that my vote in a marginal seat would help to keep the Tory filth out. It wasn't a comment directed at an individual, but I suspect you knew that.

She's certainly rattled if she had to do a search to come up with a response like that. She's losing her touch.

Indeed, NO comparison.

pointythings · 12/03/2024 20:34

Given the number of Tory MPs who have recently had to step down due to allegations of corruption and sexual abuse, and given the state of our rivers - I think 'Tory filth' describes more than a few of them quite accurately.

fleurneige · 12/03/2024 20:33

Thank you. @Clavinova is really scraping the barrel there.

Clavinova · 12/03/2024 20:36

Redundantrobin

No, they're not.

John McDonnell was speaking at a comedy night - he thought it was funny to repeat the 'lynching/bast..d jibe' - he repeated it for laughs (there's a tape recording). The 'stain on humanity' comment was apparently made during a debate. As far as I am aware McDonnell has refused to apologise for either comment - even when Esther McVey was sitting a short distance away from him in a TV studio he refused to apologise.

bombastix · 12/03/2024 20:38

The point is that Sunak and Badenoch claim to lead us. Their moral character on this is probably below that of a teenager. It is late. It is slow. And it is begrudgingly done, which is not leadership. It is the opposite.
