If your nearest-and-dearest packed the dishwasher like this ...

... would you say something?

I have done (often) but it's not getting me anywhere because he doesn't agree it's a problem.

I should add that, when I switch it around, I can usually get a lot more in.

Gosh, that’s a pretty brainless and lazy way to stack a dishwasher. And I say that as one of life’s lazy people, with a house full of clutter.

Perhaps your DH just isn’t lazy enough? He’s not thinking through the fact he’ll potentially have to run the dishwasher (and load/reload and put away) twice, whereas an extra minute ie two invested up front can save a good 10, if it means you don’t need to do another load. So I conclude lazy, but amateur laziness.

Ineedwinenow · 11/03/2024 22:58

LTB and take the dishwasher with you, he doesn’t deserve it….

Chasingthewilddeer · 11/03/2024 22:59

It's not just about whether it comes out clean though, I've seen worse, with dishwasher being put on half full which wastes energy, time and money and then you've got to wash the left over stuff as well.

Copperoliverbear · 11/03/2024 22:49

I also rinse my stuff in a bowl of hot soapy water before dishwashing it too.

What's the point of doing that? Isn't that what the machine is built to do?

DifficultBloodyWoman · 11/03/2024 23:03

You could cite this in a divorce petition as unreasonable behaviour.

In fact, if you were in court on a murder charge and showed the jury this photo, I would say it was justifiable homicide.

mathanxiety · 11/03/2024 23:03

That would make me stabby.

😂😂 bloody hell, this thread is going to
some dark places now.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 11/03/2024 23:09

It wouldn't be my way but I'll usually only empty dishwashers that I've loaded.

Just makes life easier. Me and partner have very different views on it.

wellerhugs5 · 11/03/2024 23:09

This makes my skin itch.

I'd have to restack it. I'm the 'emptier' in our dishwasher relationship and he ALWAYS crams as much in as possible, and there are ALWAYS loads of things that are not cleaned properly. I think he does it on purpose sometimes so that I'm annoyed enough that I do both our 'dishwasher jobs' but surely not.....

I would literally lose sleep over this. It's making me feel panicky.

Snap.

Aka “wash” it?

How do the perfectionists/anal stackers/people who need a life stack those bowls?

Along one side on the top rack, with each bowl leaning on the one ahead of it.

The plates should be rinsed off and arranged neatly in the bottom racks to maximise space and allow water to splash through.

Pots can probably fit on the top too, though it's not a disaster if they go on the bottom.

Care should be taken to ensure the cutlery isn't stuck together. Knives should be placed blade side down, forks go tine side up, and spoons should be arranged in such a way that they don't nest. Any knives with thin blades, or washable chopsticks, scissors, etc, need to be stuck in sideways so they don't poke through the bottom of the cutlery basket and stop the circulating sprayer. Chopsticks should be able to rest against a plate so they don't fall through. Serving spoons can fit among items on the top.

Pyrex or casserole dishes as well as frying pans can go at the side on the bottom rack. Cutting boards can be slotted in at the back on the bottom, or at the opposite side from the Pyrex.

@Piggletta 😵😵😵 gasp, shudder.
I can never unsee this… the HORROR!!!!

Isittimeformynapyet · 11/03/2024 23:50

@areyoutheregod
I can't believe everyone is cool with this

They're not. Only 24% are cool with it as of 23:50.

Angrymum22 · 11/03/2024 23:51

I would leave home.

It took 3 yrs for my DH to work out why an orderly loaded dishwasher saves time. I have a cutlery tray and if everything is loaded correctly it takes seconds to unload, as does the rest of the dishwasher. DH is now as anal as me at loading the dishwasher.

I think it goes back to the days when , as a dentist, all our instruments were kept on racks in drawers. If they were all mixed up it took much longer to find them, which over the day added minutes and we would run behind.
Its all about ergonomics.

FrangipaniBlue · 12/03/2024 00:50

He belongs in the bin with all the people who unpack their shopping all over the kitchen before putting it away.

(Another thread, Iykyk)

FussyPud · 12/03/2024 00:55

I wouldn’t care. There are three of us living in my house. If one of the other two chooses to be a legend and fill the dishwasher and set it off, I’m thanking them and cracking on with something else.

Bumblebeeinatree · 11/03/2024 20:49

Does it come out clean? That is the only potential problem, it's surprising how clean things come out even if packed a bit randomly.

Well you could fit about twice as much in there if it was stacked properly.

mathanxiety I read this and thought I must have typed it in my sleep, as this is my method.

On second thoughts, I think I love you. Can I come and live with you, instead of sloppy DH?
