To not understand the fuss about this photo?

Why is it all over the news about the Princess of Wales’ photograph being “manipulated “ (I assume that means it was photoshopped)

Am I missing something or have the media just lost the plot? It’s a photo? Who cares if she made some changes to it? I’m not sure how that makes our lives any different. Quite frankly, I find it absurd that this is even being given airtime when there’s much more important issues to be concerned about e.g. Gaza/Israel, Ukraine and cost of living!

She was in the car earlier she is clearly alive stressed and under pressure but alive

pootlin · 11/03/2024 17:32

beeonmybonnett · 11/03/2024 13:46

It’s a photo of a mum and her 3 kids - in this case I wouldn’t really say it’s a source of information

Because media agencies (Getty, AP, etc) can’t reject the image without an explanation, they have a reputation to protect.

It’s absolutely right that companies verify the integrity of photographs.

What you’re suggesting - that the agencies accept obviously doctored images because it’s ‘just a mum with her 3 kids’ - is absurd because it’s not just any mum and it reveals an ignorance of how the media works.

Salacia · 11/03/2024 17:48

The news and photo agencies need to uphold their journalistic integrity (I’m not taking about the spin put on the stories/photos by the papers - how the mail reports something will be different to the BBC etc, but the actual original source provided by the agencies). If they accept images which have been shown to be heavily doctored/created artificially it undermines their reliability. If there was a mocked up photo of an atrocity that was passed off as real it has significant real world implications (a mock up of a soldier committing war crimes for example). If a fake photo of the royals doing something untoward was accepted by the agencies as legitimate they’d be the first to complain. If you can’t trust the agency or nobody is maintaining a journalistic standard then we may as well just go all in with fake news. The royal family are not above this.

It won’t be as minor as some photoshop tweaks (whiter teeth, smoothing away frizzy hair etc) - those are accepted from this sort of photo. Clearly the edits go above and beyond this though and the palace has refused to issue to undoctered image to help clear up the situation. To be ‘killed’ there has to be legitimate concerns that the photo (or elements of it) is fake.

It’s not a big deal for the reason people think it is (gossip/conspiracy theories about the royal family) but because it proves the royal family are happy to lie or manipulate images propaganda style and undermine the authenticity and journalistic integrity of the news agencies. There was no need for them to release any photo, certainly no need for them to try and pull the wool over the eyes of the press and public.

LakeTiticaca · 11/03/2024 19:07

It's ridiculous. People are acting as if she's killed someone's puppy, rather than published a photoshopped picture

beeonmybonnett · 11/03/2024 20:27

I hear ya!

I saw the photo on the news this morning and literally couldn’t see where all this photoshopping had occurred 😂 either I’m visually challenged or people have too much time on their hands looking with magnifying glasses - there may also be a third option but I couldn’t see anything that looked weird about the photo!
There was talk about the little girls sleeve/cuff? Looked normal to me! And one of the boys had his fingers crossed - nothing especially unusual about that is there?

FMLWTF · 11/03/2024 20:41

Can one of you photography experts explain what you mean by a fake photo? You keep saying it’s not just teeth whitening and hair smoothing. So what is it? What do you think is going on in the photo? Are you saying these four people didn’t pose like this, together? That they were added separately? Nobody is saying what they suspect. Just that something is up.

shoppingshamed · 11/03/2024 20:42

InBedBy10 · 11/03/2024 13:47

YANBU Every photo in the media and the large majority of photos on line are edited/photo-shopped in some way.

People are being hysterical about this. Some of the comments I've seen are ridiculous.... this is massive news.... this will expose the monarchy... this proves xyz... 🙄

People really need to get a grip.

Apparently not if we are to believe the news picture agencies.

How do you know that every photo is edited, are you in that line of work?

It's pretty obvious once pointed out that the hand/sleeve has been altered, have another look and I'm sure you'll see it

I'm not claiming to have noticed, I didn't look in any detail but once youve been told the eidts are obvioua

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 11/03/2024 20:47

It is really ridiculous and quite shameful really.

It looks like someone else was sat in the middle of the children and Kate’s head has been superimposed. Parts of her hair are blurred and around her hands. There’s a glitch in the pattern on the boy on the left of the picture’s shoulder. Charlotte is wearing one flat boot and one appears to have a heel. The cuff of her cardigan is misaligned with her arm.

minipie · 11/03/2024 20:52

Saschka · 11/03/2024 15:09

People have worked themselves up to believe Kate is seriously ill or dead. This photo was meant to prove she’s fine. Discovering it’s been edited, potentially to insert an old picture of her into a photo she wasn’t in originally, is obviously massive news. It has backfired ridiculously, to the point that it looks deliberate (what other bad news are they trying to deflect from).

I suspect she’s just ill and looks rough (she looked terrible in the car photo) and they edited together some old pictures to stop people harassing her. They would have been much better off saying nothing.

I think this is probably about right.

By now though, given all the speculation, the best thing IMO would be for her to appear in public properly, even if she does look rough.

Terrribletwos · 11/03/2024 20:54

Deliadidit · 11/03/2024 14:13

*It is edited to the point that it looks like she has been superimposed on the photo. Ie she wasn’t originally in it.

This isn’t a filter or a tweak.*

Really? And what are you suggesting that this could mean? What am I missing?

I cannot get over this hysteria - this country has gone mad.

No its not!

PuttingDownRoots · 11/03/2024 17:14

FFS. If something was seriously wrong with Kate or she had passed away would her children be in school?
After the mistakes handling Diana's death and the then children William and Harry?

If Kate had passed away they couldn't keep it secret forever 😂also how would they explain the mothers day photo that came to be in the first place? Sorry I know you didn't say this but can't find the post you are referencing.

Because it's not a true, original photo. Given the huge amount of speculation about her wellbeing, it's bizarre to release a picture to the world's media (who given AI and digital manipulation, carefully scrutinise every photo), that is so obviously massively edited, to the degree that her head is very likely taken from her Vogue photo shoot. Stupid? Arrogant? Incompetent?

HaggisHhahaha · 11/03/2024 20:57

If your a mum doin a bit of light editing for FB-no one cares

if you are doing an official (their website) release portrait (it’s formal/static rather than an action shot) with multiple edits it seems dishonest and peculiar to heavily edit small features

when I first saw it I thought some thing was off but couldn’t figure it out

there is a a lot of blurred edges

29andLost · 11/03/2024 21:14

There must be something seriously wrong with her if they can't publish a photo that isn't edited yet they let this one fly 😂

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 11/03/2024 21:25

So what. I edit lots of my photos. Like anyone else she is totally entitled to do this.....people are reading into it way too much, surely they do this all the time?!

OneMoreTime23 · 11/03/2024 21:32

It’s totally a fake photo. Everyone knows she’s on the moon.

A suspicious person might say that the fuss of the photo is to distract us from the COL crisis, babies being murdered in the war, the NHS dying etc

It’s me - I am the suspicious person.

Its not just you.

Whatever her illness, it comes at a time where many are struggling to access medical care, and sick and disabled people are being told to get back to work. Not many people can decide that they're just not going to engage until they feel like it. Again, I don't think she should be denied that but its a shame the rest of us aren't treated with the same compassion. For a family that want to appear relatable this is about as far from the common experience as it gets.

I don't dislike her personally, I just hate the system.

CatchuponFriday · 11/03/2024 22:01

Women on politics live today called it a national scandal! Ffs!

Theunamedcat · 12/03/2024 06:27

Really isn't such a scandal and I'm suspicious they only killed the photo to force the rumours into overdrive and force her to come out into public which sort of worked she came out but refused to look at the camera

And I don't blame her

SiriAlexa · 12/03/2024 06:32

The public do not like being lied to. The photo was released to create the impression that the Duchess of C is fine and well, but now it appears that the image was falsified. That leads the public to infer that something is wrong, because if everything was fine a falsified image would not be needed.

Daylightsavingscrime · 12/03/2024 06:34

It's pretty wild looking from outside the UK

Is it really? It’s just a photo of a mom and her kids
