A decent baker?

JMSA · 10/03/2024 23:39

It's honestly better toasted. I rarely have untoasted sourdough.

MaloneMeadow · 10/03/2024 23:40

Can’t say that I’m the biggest fan either but it’s certainly not tasteless or bland!

SpryAmberSeal · 10/03/2024 23:40

I really dislike it too. I wish I did like it because it has become the default bread in cafes etc round here.

justasking111 · 10/03/2024 23:46

A friend makes it, it's blooming gorgeous. Shop bought I only eat toasted

BobbyBiscuits · 10/03/2024 23:50

Yeah, I'm kind of over it. Has to be toasted or maybe with tons of butter and smoked salmon and lemon. It doesn't work as normal day to day bread. It feels like the default in places like Waitrose and it's like, please stop now. Other bread is available surely? It that or plastic bread sometimes. It's not great as just regular toast with butter either is it?

Xmasbaby11 · 10/03/2024 23:58

I like it toasted with savoury meals. It does need to be good though. The best has been at independent cafes and bakeries who make their own. I’ve had some awful packaged stuff - the worst being M &S cafe! I’d rather standard sliced bread than what they served.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/03/2024 00:03

I miss being able to easily buy lighter, softer, fluffier bread but with a good crumb and lots of body.

I do make this myself but I wish I could buy it more easily.

Sourdough is good only for building yurts in which to keep goats for stinky goat cheese that always tastes of stale goat.

Berlinlover · 11/03/2024 00:04

I have it every morning with cheese and relish.

Caerulea · 11/03/2024 00:06

I hate it, especially toasted cos it goes too crispy & jagged, hurts my mouth. And the holes are too big. And the crust is too hard. Hated how it became so trendy to put on menus with pate etc.

I think it's a bit like jazz, if you don't get it is cos you're not cultured enough ;) ('you just haven't had a good one OP' )

RobertaFirmino · 11/03/2024 00:10

Don't like it? Don't eat it, problem solved.

Mumstheword37 · 11/03/2024 00:10

I am not cultured! But I love sourdough. I loved it toasted really well with butter or butter and marmite on and a coffee. Perfection. Jason’s or tescos finest are both so good imo.

KTheGrey · 11/03/2024 03:12

M&S wholemeal from the bakery is good, or at least I like it.

BigMandyHarris · 11/03/2024 03:20

I only buy it from the bakers. Supermarket sourdough just isn’t the same.
It does need toasting after day 1.

We love it and the health benefits are great.

Dustyblue · 11/03/2024 03:22

I used to like it toasted, until I cracked a molar clean in half biting into a hard bit of crust. The dentist who took it out said sourdough and seeded bread is one of his best customers.

Gone off it as you can imagine!

Teddleshon · 11/03/2024 03:36

It’s definitely better toasted, I only eat it as is when it’s freshly out of the oven and then it’s delicious. It does make the greatest toasties though, particularly with gooey cheese.

I make my own and agree that the stuff you buy is often hard and unappetising.

Sourdough bread is disgusting, tastes gone off with all the texture of an old plimsoll. People are buying it cos its a "trend", yet Sainsburys have decided we ALL love it and only do their pizzas in sourdough flavour, yak!

busybusybusy2015 · 20/04/2026 18:34

Mouth-lacerating. Tooth-breaking. Paying extra to buy holes. Incomprehensible.
