To find this kind of smile annoying?

There's a certain smile a lot of young women use in photos on social media and something about it is irritating me. I guess because it looks posed rather than a natural smile. Or maybe I'm wrong and it IS their natural smile, but I'm seeing it more and more so I believe it's a trend. It's hard to describe but it looks like just the corners of their mouth are curling up... I tried to find an example but without doing screenshots from social media which isn't cool, I can't find one. Does anyone know what I mean and why am I seeing this smile a lot?

“Smile, you miserable bitch.
”No, not like that.”

Brindle5 · 11/03/2024 08:57

I'm certainly not suggesting women should smile more. Resting bitch face is a marvellous thing. I like authentic expressions!

Given the state of uk dentistry and orthodontics and the popularity on social media / influencers for mega white American teeth or veneers, it's hardly surprising that UK youth are self conscious about their gnashers and like the closed mouth smile. I prefer it to seeing every inch of tooth and gum in the manner of a carthorse

Same.

The example pictures posted are my natural closed mouth smile. I have massive buck teeth so you better believe I'm not showing those in photos posted online. I've never had fillers/ cosmetic surgery or use face apps. IT'S JUST MY FACE! 😂 Don't give two hoots what randoms think of my profile pics tbh.

Me too. (Closed mouth smile I mean) I look ridiculous with an open mouthed smile. My teeth are too small and trying to do a big smile makes me look deranged.

Slightly open mouth and you simply can't see my teeth at all and it looks like I don't have them.

The only way I can do a toothy smile is to pull a face like a snarling dog.

Lips closed, corners of mouth upturned looks like I'm sneering.

So my choices are
Maniac
Toothless
Rabid dog
Sneery

Luckily I generally just deploy my RBF. 🤷

It’s the fillers isn’t it? They can make the top lip curl in the corners when they’re overdone

And me. I had buck teeth and had a brace as a teen. The teeth either side of my two front teeth were removed to make room for it. My two front teeth are now much bigger than the teeth beside them and I still look a bit bugs bunny if Iget caught smiling un self consciously. I envy people who can do big open mouth smiles without looking deranged.

Edited

I look deranged when I try to do an open-mouthed smile too. My teeth are also on the small side and my mouth itself is quite small. The corners of my mouth don’t seem to upturn in a way that conveys ‘I’m happy’, but rather ‘I have just sat on a tack’.

It's laughable they think being sexy or acctractive is making your lips 💋 look like batmans villian or a Clown 🤡 at a circus 🎪

L.o.l 🤣

@Brindle5 is this what helen skelton has had done because her mouth is just weird!

KreedKafer · 11/03/2024 10:52

I can't imagine you make many people smile, so at least you're unlikely to encounter this in real life.

You sound nice too.

Brindle5 · 11/03/2024 12:52

Hah, I am delightful in real life, just venting a petty annoyance on here as we are all entitled to do. And I have not attacked anyone personally, unlike you...

Thanks to those suggesting reasons for the specific smile I'm seeing. I'm not talking about regular closed lip smiles. This is something I'm seeing more and more of so I'd suggest it's: deliberately posed /a result of an app / a result of a face treatment.

No, more like this @Garlicking ! 😁

🤣🤣🤣

Pirelli · 11/03/2024 15:48

Definitely a side effect from having too much lip filler. It's when they try to smile but there's too much upper lip in the way. That must be so sore when they first have it done!

Mittens1717 · 11/03/2024 16:05

Better than duck face I suppose
