To ask for a bigger table?

rightsaidurs · 09/03/2024 16:20

We are doing bottomless food at this restaurant
There's me and partner and you get 2 mains ,1 starter and 1 side each at any given time
So 4 mains -2starters and 2 sides plus drinks and this is the table they give us ...
I ask to move and we can't because there's only two of us
Was i unreasonable here to ask for a bigger table ?

To ask for a bigger table?

i hate tables like this

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 09/03/2024 18:48

I'm with you OP. I hate sitting at tables that are just barely big enough. I was once sat at a silly little corner table with my husband and toddler and it was so tight every plate was touching and glasses had to go on the windowsill. It's just not comfortable.

TempName247 · 09/03/2024 18:50

Sounds strange to me but OP has said they were served taster portions not whole size mains!

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 09/03/2024 18:56

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/03/2024 18:35

They are. And OP hasn't answered the questions about how busy the place was, how many tables free. Just the wind-up answers. For some reason.

Well, presumably that's because she's not stupid enough to ask to move to a bigger table when the restaurant is full to bursting?

I wouldn't bother answering stupid questions either.

Kalevala · 09/03/2024 17:18

I'm not understanding either. Why order food if it's too much to eat? Small plates or tapas would be preferable.

It just sounds like an excuse to be very greedy. I hate wasting food.

Nevercloserfortherestofourlives · 09/03/2024 19:11

Helfs · 09/03/2024 18:18

Those who order from the 65+ menu, and who couldn’t fathom how someone could eat more than 5 chips have arrived already I see

YANBU OP.

Give feedback, since it’s new it’s probably a teething issue

What’s the 65+ menu ?

PansyOatZebra · 09/03/2024 19:12

Cazpar · 09/03/2024 16:34

If you can't fit all your food on the table, maybe order less food? It's a standard sized table for two people for a meal and you could still get plenty on there.

This. It’s a pretty standard table for two people…

Helfs · 09/03/2024 19:15

Nevercloserfortherestofourlives · 09/03/2024 19:11

What’s the 65+ menu ?

It’s usually smaller meals! As they couldn’t possible have a normal meal

burnoutbabe · 09/03/2024 19:18

Surely they make money by people not ordering extra stuff if they bring it out but by bit.

Giving you all 8 at once, even if you won't get at it, means it's used.

Very strange way to run a restaurant!

In situations like this, the portions are normally smaller than normal so it doesn't cost them as much. They also don't include drinks in the set price which is a big money maker.

There's often a tight turn-around too so it's a case of cram 'em high, sell 'em cheap.

burnoutbabe · 09/03/2024 19:29

I suppose they don't refill unless you have finished what is there and you may not do that if sone is cold by time you eat it.

It's like a buffet at your table. Which you only go to once and therefore stack your plate high with random crap that doesn't gel much!

maddiemookins16mum · 09/03/2024 19:37

Tables for 2 are often a bit pokey. I was at an Indian last week, 2 rice, 2 mains and a nan plus two drinks - I had to move the (pointless) bud vase and tea light holder to a shelf next to me.

MagnoliaBrown · 09/03/2024 22:16

I've never thought that having one main course and a starter is 'restricting yourself'

rightsaidurs · 10/03/2024 12:17

I just personally think if you are going to offer a service at least provide a table big enough for everything to fit

@ApolloandDaphne LOVE Stuzzi 😍

Northernsouloldies · 10/03/2024 12:30

Being served everything at once they be as well dispensing with the plates..and serve up in a trough.

Saymyname28 · 10/03/2024 12:31

I don't understand why people are questioning how or what OP ordered. OP booked a set deal, arrived, was instructed where to sit and how to order. Did as instructed.

Food restaurant supplied didn't fit on table restaurant supplied.

This is not OPs organisational or greed issue.

This is restaurant poor planning and poor problem solving.

Saymyname28 · 10/03/2024 12:34

Tables being too small is a very common issue though, I often have to remove the pointless ornaments and menu holders off of tables to actually fit.

We went to a buffet place once that seated 6 people to a normal 4 seater table but becuase it had bench seats instead of chairs they passed it off as a 6 seater .

Because this is MN and everyone has to criticise what everyone eats.

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 10/03/2024 12:38

Yabu to be taking photos of your table to post on mumsnet rather than just enjoying the company and food.

rightsaidurs · 10/03/2024 15:01

@WhoaJayShettybambalam the picture of table wasn't taken by me
It's a picture from the restaurant website

Some of the comments on here could be really triggering for someone
I'm 8 1/2 stone -a size 8
I'm not greedy ,overweight or any other comments about greediness that was made
It was a one off night out and the thought of getting the chance to try different main courses was exciting as any other time we would stick to what we know -this gave us a chance to try things we didn't know we would like ..and next time we can order them
Rather than order from a normal menu and find out we weren't keen on them

OP posts:
Northernsouloldies · 10/03/2024 15:07

I made a comment about serving in trough,it was a dig at the restaurant serving an array of plates on a tiny table not a dig at anyone's appetite or eating habits.

Mummame222 · 10/03/2024 15:11

rightsaidurs · 09/03/2024 16:25

@pootlin my point was there wasn't enough room for everything on the table
They advertised bottomless but couldn't actually get everything on the table
We had no room to eat ,I knocked my drink over because I had no space to cut my food

Strange. I’m sure other people managed it just fine.

YBU.

burnoutbabe · 10/03/2024 17:47

True

After a few tables had sane issue, wouldn't the restaurant have twigged that bringing out 8 dishes at once was silky?

Could you have had more after the 8? As bottomless? Was the food you had in 8 dishes all hot by the time you ate it?
