To ask for a bigger table?

rightsaidurs · 09/03/2024 16:20

We are doing bottomless food at this restaurant
There's me and partner and you get 2 mains ,1 starter and 1 side each at any given time
So 4 mains -2starters and 2 sides plus drinks and this is the table they give us ...
I ask to move and we can't because there's only two of us
Was i unreasonable here to ask for a bigger table ?

The concept just sounds so wasteful.
Why would a restaurant want to bring you main meals that you aren't expected to eat ? Confused
Why would you want your main meal - or in this case main meals to sit there getting cold while you eat your starters ? Confused
If you have to order all the food to come out at once, how is that 'bottomless' ?
Who eats two main meals, (even more so after having a starter) ?

It all just sounds completely grim. And I would call myself pretty greedy,

Totally agree. Maybe focus on quality rather than quantity op?

MN is so weird about food!

OP has taken the deal offered and there wasn't enough room on the table for the food on that deal, which the restaurant should have anticipated. How is she being unreasonable? I'm sure she doesn't eat this amount of food every meal time ffs

The OP said they obviously didn't eat everything. I think if you are are going to eat the food then fair enough. Some tall young men who exercise or have physical jobs have big appetites for example. If you order food you 'obviously' aren't going to eat then that is pretty grim.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 09/03/2024 18:10

These replies are so predictable.

OP didn't ask any of your your opinions on the amount of food she ordered, ffs.

Georgyporky · 09/03/2024 18:13

Can't you just order 2 dishes, half-way through eating order the next 2 etc. ?

GrumpyPanda · 09/03/2024 18:17

I'd have walked out and found somewhere nicer. And that's independent of the type and number of dishes. Hate hate hate these type of tables where you're touching elbows and sharing conversations - with the next diner.

WhizzWoman · 09/03/2024 18:17

Some of these replies are hilariously pompous 😂😂😂😂

Helfs · 09/03/2024 18:18

Those who order from the 65+ menu, and who couldn’t fathom how someone could eat more than 5 chips have arrived already I see

YANBU OP.

Give feedback, since it’s new it’s probably a teething issue

IncompleteSenten · 09/03/2024 18:19

Sounds like you needed fewer plates. You could have put the starters on to the main plates.

I would have said the same if other women were criticising the amount of food I'd eaten. And it's always women who get slagged off for it, even if its a one off, as your reply proves

ILoveMyCatButHesAPervert · 09/03/2024 18:25

Nope, @5128gap. OP said two mains each, at the same time, plus the rest. And bottomless food, drinks not included.

Edited

I wasn't criticising the OP for eating too much. I was criticising ordering food she knew she 'obviously' was not going to eat. It is usually men who eat that much, but if a well-built, active woman was going to eat that, then there's nothing wrong with it. It's planned wastage that is grim.

Bellsandthistle · 09/03/2024 18:29

This is the ultimate “first world problem” 😂

Balloonhearts · 09/03/2024 18:31

I know what you mean, it's like where they bring miniature portions of loads of different things all on separate dishes and you share them. Like a mini buffet type thing?

AbbeFausseMaigre · 09/03/2024 18:31

If I've understood correctly, their concept is serving their regular menu tapas-style, so the mains are smaller than they usually would be? And they are asking diners to order an initial eight dishes? And the bottomless bit is that you can then order additional dishes two at a time?

If so, then yes, there should be adequate space for the initial eight plates, as served, in addition to dining plates and drinks. Diners shouldn't be having to scrape one dish onto another dish just to make room on the table.

It sounds like they should have recommended six dishes to start.

Cazpar · 09/03/2024 18:32

I agree it does seem a bit wasteful / excessive. Not because having a good dinner is greedy (you should see the takeaway order I've just put in), but it's like "my table is too small for us both to have four courses at once, my wallet is too small for my £50s, I'm so hard done by".

Sorry but I just had to say I love your username

4 of us ate at a tapas restaurant last night at a table about that size. The food all fitted fine.

They are. And OP hasn't answered the questions about how busy the place was, how many tables free. Just the wind-up answers. For some reason.

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 09/03/2024 16:28

YANBU, but these places try to male you uncomfortable so you don't eat too much.

And so you eat quickly and get out so they can turn the table round.

ApolloandDaphne · 09/03/2024 18:37

Here is a pic of the size of table we were at.

The restaurant was busy but there were still empty tables
We were told the table plan is done a day in advance so can't be altered

Most restaurants who offer these deals have small tables close together.

The only way they can do the cheap deals is by getting big numbers through quickly.

Fannyfiggs · 09/03/2024 18:43

My god, why can't you cook a small chicken at home and feed your family of 7 for a full week.

So greedy and wasteful

🙄🤣
