To ask for a bigger table?

rightsaidurs · 09/03/2024 16:20

We are doing bottomless food at this restaurant
There's me and partner and you get 2 mains ,1 starter and 1 side each at any given time
So 4 mains -2starters and 2 sides plus drinks and this is the table they give us ...
I ask to move and we can't because there's only two of us
Was i unreasonable here to ask for a bigger table ?

To ask for a bigger table?

rightsaidurs · 09/03/2024 17:04

@mynameiscalypso smaller tables than that ? How much smaller can you get 🤣

TeaKitten · 09/03/2024 17:08

Was it a busy time? Did they have many bigger tables free?

waterlellon · 09/03/2024 17:10

Who is making you feel it was unreasonable?

ilovesooty · 09/03/2024 17:10

You haven't said how busy it was. I'm not surprised they didn't want to move you to a table for four.

And the comments are making you howl ? Seriously?

Purpledragonz · 09/03/2024 17:12

I understand their point. If everyone orders bottomless, everyone will use twice the number of tables. however, tables should be wider, and it looks pretty empty, so Yanbu

Mumof2teens79 · 09/03/2024 17:14

It's obviously not U to ask, but if they can't, they can't.
If its new then give them a chance to realise its a problem and change the system....either tiered racks or bigger tables, or food at different times.

But yes I think many tables are too small and no one thinks about practicality.
And I think a lot of these bottomless deals are neither bottomless or a good deal.

Kalevala · 09/03/2024 17:14

Why don't they just offer smaller serves of the mains so you can try more without wastage then? Seems odd if you are leaving a lot of it, unless it's aimed at 6ft working young men who would finish it.

JennyfromtheBlok · 09/03/2024 17:15

Can’t you just tip all the food from your plates onto the largest plate available and stack the empties 🤣

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 09/03/2024 17:16

rightsaidurs · 09/03/2024 16:51

@Picklestop it's a bottomless brunch
We didn't eat everything obviously
The whole point is you get to try bits of all the mains so you not restricted to just 1 main course

What a waste of food then.

I hate bottomless brunch. I get why people enjoy it etc and sorry to be a fun sponge but the waste of food just irks me.

The table is too small by the looks of it.

Kalevala · 09/03/2024 17:18

WeAreWarriorsWeAreWarriors · 09/03/2024 17:00

If you don't eat everything does that mean that they give you too much to eat with the idea being that you get to try different things? I don't understand how this differs from tapas or small plates? Are they just bigger servings?

I'm not understanding either. Why order food if it's too much to eat? Small plates or tapas would be preferable.

WhateverMate · 09/03/2024 17:18

Do you mean you can order as many mains, sides and starters as you want in 90 minutes, and they bring them out in pairs?

If so, they should be able to fit on the table if that's what they've decided to do.

So YANBU for asking for a bigger table, but if one wasn't available then there was nothing they could do I guess.

RawBloomers · 09/03/2024 17:22

If they have advertised an offering that doesn’t fit on the table, of course YANBU to ask for a table big enough.

Sounds like teething problems, maybe they’ll adjust. I hope they replaced your drink for free.

burnoutbabe · 09/03/2024 17:27

I'd just request the food every 10 mins or so. To avoid stuff going cold? And wastage. And table getting full.

We had a roast platter for 2 on 2 small a table so had to do sone rejigging to get it all on. Restaurant should have anticipated that and suggested moving or sone help as to how to manage it all.,

Starting a thread about how you can't get all the food you ordered onto a normal sized table for two. Wanting to fit a shitload on there as it's a bottomless deal and you want the max possible. The restaurant obviously wanting to limit this as despite advertising bottomless they want to minimise how far you go.

Grim.

The two of them had a starter each, a main each and a side between them. That's not an excessive amount of food. The problem is it all came out at once in serving dishes that were left on the table. A table for two that size is fine for a traditional dining experience where first you get your (plated) starter then when that's removed out comes your (plated) main. The OP isn't being greedy she is having a normal two courses. Many people dining out have three courses! How grim must you think they are? Oh, and bottomless usually refers to alcohol not food. They have limited food, as OP explained.

Allfur · 09/03/2024 17:33

It's a bit confusing

Kalevala · 09/03/2024 17:38

It was a starter, two mains and a side, each.

5128gap · 09/03/2024 17:39

OP, people are getting confused because they think a bottomless brunch is like an all you can eat arrangement and you've over ordered and that's why it didn't fit. YANBU. It should be obvious to the resturant that its set brunch menu, which you had, is not going to fit on that table in its dishes all at once, and allow people to be comfortable. If they want to serve in this way, they should be providing bigger tables, but obviously that would mean they'd have to put their prices up or lose profit.

No, they had double that amount. Eight dishes on the table between them.

1 starter, 2 mains and 1 side per person.

kikilaw · 09/03/2024 17:42

Sounds vile. They might as well just dump it all on the table and forget about the plates.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/03/2024 17:48

MN is so weird about food!

OP has taken the deal offered and there wasn't enough room on the table for the food on that deal, which the restaurant should have anticipated. How is she being unreasonable? I'm sure she doesn't eat this amount of food every meal time ffs

SleepingStandingUp · 09/03/2024 17:49

rightsaidurs · 09/03/2024 16:33

@ErrolTheDragon the bottomless things is new this week
Normally you would just get your starters then your mains etc
We have been before and had a 2 table but only had 1 starter ,1 main etc

So what happens if you eat your starter, two mains and side dish? Do they bring more? Do you have to order more sides as your part way through the first?

Terfosaurus · 09/03/2024 17:52

I find that's often the trouble with any all you can eat/buffet/bottomless places. There's one near me which is the traditional self service. But the chairs and tables are so close together that it's practically impossible to actually get out to get food.

WhizzWoman · 09/03/2024 17:57

Yanbu. I would have wanted a bigger table too.
