This is not too much £ for a leisure club membership

For a Hilton hotel membership I think it is quite reasonable but wanted to get other opinions.

£79 per month (intend to use at least 3x a week).
Arena space, gym, indoor swimming, sauna and steam room included and 2 hours free parking.

My reasoning is that I feel like the facilities will be clean and decent at least.

I have seen cheaper options £40 a month for example but with poorer reviews.

What does everyone else pay for their leisure club membership?

£22.99 for 55+ monthly membership of a new leisure centre with 4 different locations. Pools, classes, virtual classes, cycles and gym facilities. It’s excellent value and I’m there at least 5 times a week.

Myotheripodisayoto · 09/03/2024 20:23

I play bloody loads for membership of a david lloyd. I think £150/month.

RoadToPlants · 09/03/2024 20:28

I pay £110 for platinum DL membership with a corporate discount. I love it so much and if I was on the bones of my arse I would do everything possible to keep it

JanewaysBun · 09/03/2024 20:41

I pay £90 for a local non profit health club in london. My kids are free and they have kids classes and (crucially) a free soft play to deposit my darlings whilst i work out. No reformer though :(

No council places nearby but use the council place in my hometown sometimes which is new and nice.

FusionChefGeoff · 09/03/2024 20:44

It's an investment in your health - what's more important than that?!!!

MumMumMumMumMumMumMum · 09/03/2024 20:45

For that price I'd expect more than 2 hours free parking, how stingy, should be free regardless of duration.

FinallyFeb · 09/03/2024 20:47

I have a joint membership with my DH, it costs £4200 per year.

A lot less, in a Village hotel with a proper sized pool.

I went to the village in Solihull. It was £58 a month and the machines were all dusty and changing rooms dirty.

UseItOrloseItt · 09/03/2024 20:55

£37 a month.

Access to 6 gyms across the City, 4 pools, 300 fitness classes and one Sauna.

Also unlimited free parking at all sites, 20% off in the cafe and 20% off their kids holiday camps.

lilacsunbeam · 09/03/2024 21:11

I pay £160 a month for myself and £40 a month for my 3 year old DD, this includes gym, all classes for myself and daughter, huge swimming pool, kids pool, toddler pool and huge outdoor heated pool, a separate spa area with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. 10% off food and drink in the restaurant, towels for swimming, tennis courts, free parking for however long I want and access to app where I can book classes etc, oh and a crèche for 3 months - 5 year olds.

UseItOrloseItt · 09/03/2024 21:23

Jesus, some of these prices are eye watering.

I've never appreciated my local Counxil more!

Dewdilly · 09/03/2024 21:32

I pay £18.50 a month - that’s a well equipped gym, functional fitness room, swimming pool, spin studio, and all fitness classes, yoga, Pilates, spin classes, etc, peak and off peak hours. No sauna or steam room, though. That’s my local council leisure centre in London and I can attend any centre in the borough.

Papillon23 · 09/03/2024 21:41

My council gym is £40. That gives you access to 3 places with classes (but none have pools), 2 pools (one with a steam room and sauna) and 5 gyms (4/5 located at previously mentioned locations and one separate one).

It was alright, but only one of the pools was available before work and it was always packed. Parking was chargeable (I cycle plenty but it's off-putting when the weather is bad). The sauna was big enough for about 3 people and same for the steam room. The pool was only open directly after work one day a week and was packed that day. All the facilities shut at 6pm at the weekend, which is a prime time for me to go.

Basically if you were retired and could flex round them it would be a pretty good option.

Given I'm not I'll stick with my £90 a month membership that's open into the evening every day, no swim club training in the mornings, the pool is at the same location as the classes and I can play badminton and they give me a towel.

It's expensive but I've been going for 3 years now and I'm averaging 3x a week still which will do nicely.

I love the outdoor pool and the spa.

aintnospringchicken · 09/03/2024 23:02

I pay £54 a month.Facilities include a 20m pool with sauna and steam room, gym with the usual machines and free weights, unlimited classes including yoga,Pilates,Zumba, step classes, dance aerobics, group spin classes and aqua aerobics. There's a hairdressing salon and cafe / bar.Parking is free with no time limit.I get a free guest pass every month.

notacooldad · 09/03/2024 23:10

I use the council gym
I have a choice of 12 leisure centres. I have use of all classes, ( I tend to for spin, pilates and circuit, sometimes zumba) gym, yoga studios steam/ sauna/ swim, running tracks. I also get 4 x a month personal instructor
I get 4 hours free parking in a multi storey car park in my main gym.
I pay £19.99 a month.
I'm happy with that.

Wherehas2023gone · 09/03/2024 23:11

£27 per month with the local council, gives access to 4 pools and 6 gyms including classes). I only use the pool and it’s much better than any hotel I’ve stayed in, 25 metres and able to do proper length swimming. Really lucky to have a decent pool close by.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 09/03/2024 23:12

If you can afford it then it's worth the money. The best value gym is the one you'll enjoy going to.

dreamingofsun · 10/03/2024 07:55

@Notacooldad that is so cheap. whereabouts in the country are you? is it a labour council? I'm trying to work out how its 50% cheaper than mine.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 10/03/2024 07:58

If you're doing gym, swim, sauna, jacuzzi, shower and get ready again that's going to be more than 2 hours needed in the car park. What happens then?

GymBergerac · 10/03/2024 08:04

Council leisure centre £31 pm. I get a corporate discount for being a member of the town running club which saves me 10%
25m pool, decent enough gym and you can see the PT every six weeks for advice and a fitness plan.
It's a bit basic but it more than does the job. I go every day so it paid for itself in the first month or so.

84wood · 10/03/2024 08:05

I pay £209 for DL!! I’m shocked that it’s so much more than everyone else.

YouAndMeAndThem · 10/03/2024 08:13

£34 a month for full use of any of the local gyms, pools, classes and free parking at all sites. Also includes kids swimming lessons, and can be used in neighbouring councils at their facilities too.

Springtime43 · 10/03/2024 08:16

I pay around £89 for David Lloyd. —
-includes loads of classes too
-Massive gym
-lovely changing rooms and showers with -Elemis spa shower gel etc.
-Huge hot spa pool (like a small pool)
-steam and saina
-outdoor heated pool
-outdoor jacuzzi
-Complimentary towel

A guest pass a month

I pay £102 for David Lloyd, with all of the above but no outdoor pool. The building didn’t start life as a DL club, but DL bought it around 15 years ago, which is possibly why it differs to the ‘standard’ DL clubs. I’m in the East Midlands

ScarlettSunset · 10/03/2024 08:20

The 'best' gym near me is £36 a month. This is an independent gym, not part of a chain but it has the very best facilities that can be found locally.
Further away, there is a high end chain that is about £85 a month. I've been there as a guest of a friend. It's nice, but not really got anything more to offer that the local one and I just wouldn't use it much due to the distance.
There are other facilities near me as well that are also far cheaper but they don't have pools, except the council one but the opening times are very limited there.

@Notacooldad that is so cheap. whereabouts in the country are you? is it a labour council? I'm trying to work out how its 50% cheaper than mine.

I only pay 18.50 a month for mine - even cheaper - big pool, studio, spin studio, large well equipped and newly fitted out gym, functional fitness room, all fitness classes included - whatever you want to do - yoga, Pilates, spin, pump, etc. Open from 7am till 10pm. And I can use all other leisure centres in the borough too. Labour council, London. But I do have a concessionary membership which makes it a bit cheaper.
