This is not too much £ for a leisure club membership

For a Hilton hotel membership I think it is quite reasonable but wanted to get other opinions.

£79 per month (intend to use at least 3x a week).
Arena space, gym, indoor swimming, sauna and steam room included and 2 hours free parking.

My reasoning is that I feel like the facilities will be clean and decent at least.

I have seen cheaper options £40 a month for example but with poorer reviews.

What does everyone else pay for their leisure club membership?

That is very good. I also have a hotel based leisure club membership and it is about £150 per month

Thedance · 09/03/2024 17:29

I would never pay as much as that. But if you can afford it and like it only you can decide if you think it's worth it

HunterHearstHelmsley · 09/03/2024 17:30

I pay £63 for David Lloyd platinum membership. The club plus one is slightly cheaper. I go most days but don't actually use the pools or courts! I like having the cafe area and free parking though, and the fact I can use most of their gyms throughout the country.

It's worth it if you use it enough.

LadyWiddiothethird · 09/03/2024 17:32

I pay £97 a month at DL.I use the outdoor pool daily, otherwise I would join a different gym. There are no other heated outdoor pools near where I live,so at DL I will stay..

Have no idea how DL are priced, everyone seems to pay a different amount.

@JennyfromtheBlok where do you live that David Lloyd is that cheap?! My local is £189 a month and that's plus not platinum membership!

They vary. My local DL is £135 a month platinum and it’s literally the worst and smallest DL in the country. We have no spa, no blaze studio, no reformer pilates, two tiny studios, the gym is cramped and not much equipment and 6 tennis courts. Air con hasn’t worked in years, the roof leaks all over the place when it rains and the buckets come out.

ive been to other DLs which are significantly cheaper and the quality and amount of facilities was mind blowing. Massive gym, outdoor pool, blaze, spa, big studios for £90 a month

it all depends on local competition in the area.

A lot less, in a Village hotel with a proper sized pool.

Also at a village and the pool is not “proper sized” and it’s not much less than £79!
if you use it then it’s a reasonable amount compared to private gyms near me. It depends what the facilities are like though, many hotel gyms are small and have very old, poorly maintained equipment.

SheepAndSword · 09/03/2024 17:53

I was looking at one yesterday, it's quite high tech and pampering and that was £65 per month.

EdgarsTale · 09/03/2024 17:54

I pay £29.99 a month for full membership. Parking is free.

Mines £130 a month. Worth every penny. The council one near near me has limited hours for swimming, is Baltic cold and smells of wee.

I quite going to mine as it smelt of dirty nappies, because, there were dirty nappies left lying around.

JennyfromtheBlok · 09/03/2024 19:11

@CormorantStrikesBack ahh that’s a shame.

Ours is not a swanky brand new one by any means, but the facilities are really good. It’s in an old water park! So the swimming/park area is massive. Don’t have a blaze studio though! But our spin studio is amazing.

JennyfromtheBlok · 09/03/2024 19:14

@SgtJuneAckland Yours is probably more modern than mine? And fancier?! Ours is in oldish buildings. And bits could definitely be spruced up. But we have fantastic facilities and space.

TorroFerney · 09/03/2024 19:27

Think it would depend where the hotel is, if it’s somewhere very holiday ish will the pool and sauna be full of kids? I’ve often thought when we are at hotels where locals have a membership I’d hate that ie it being overrun with holidaymakers .

Dacadactyl · 09/03/2024 19:31

25.50 a month gives me access to 6 leisure centres, tons of classes at each centre, 6 gyms, 5 pools and 4 saunas throughout our Borough.

I get slightly cheaper membership, but Joe Public can get all the above for 31.99.

Our spin studio is shit. The air conditioning doesn’t work and they refuse to replace the big fans which they “lost” during Covid which they used to have.

£79 is not bad for a hotel gym, but still quite a lot compared to non-hotel/health club gyms. But I agree that it depends on what else is available in your area.

Our local Hilton charges similar, but has quite a small pool, small gym, sauna and hot tub, but not many classes.

However, I'm a member of our local (new) leisure centre, which has a 25m pool with lane sessions, 20m shallow pool, sauna, steam room, fantastic gym, 2 studios with a huge choice of exercise classes including pilates, spin, step, yoga, Zumba etc. There's unlimited free parking. It shuts at 9pm which doesn't suit everyone, but it's fine for me. It's £32 a month, for unlimited use, and free parking.

So I wouldn't consider the Hilton gym in our area. However, where my sister lives the cheapest gym is £45 and is a grubby little gym in a secondary school, no other facilities and limited hours. So her local Hilton seems a bargain.

Great if you live in an area where such things are cheap but the same at our local “council” leisure centres is £59.99 a month and the opening hours are relatively short and none of them are particularly convenient for me to get to! So I pay more for one that
I can get to before or after work and has showers that actually work.

Yearendjoy · 09/03/2024 19:40

Depends what you want the gym for. In my experience hotel gyms don't really have much equipment , weights etc. They really only have the bare minimum.

That's dear for "council" ones!

Ours are open 6am til 10pm as well and there is even one 24 hour facility included in that.

Blendiful · 09/03/2024 19:53

I also do DL, it's about £119 a month but worth it if you use it.
Prices vary depending on where you live and your club.

Ours is fab, big, lots of new facilities, brand new spa. Lots of it's been done up. But I go most days in a good week; and maybe 3 times in a bad week!

NotFastButFurious · 09/03/2024 19:56

@Dacadactyl exactly but according to
MN it’s cheap to live “up north” ha ha ha! My closest
to home “council” facility is still twice as far away as 2 private clubs, the building opens 6am-9pm but the pool doesn’t open until 7:30 so I’d never be able to swim before work, and that’s the only time I ever swim!

TokyoSushi · 09/03/2024 20:06

£77 for DL platinum here, I absolutely love it and go up to 5 times per week

MsAnnFrope · 09/03/2024 20:09

Pay more than that for DL £114 a month but for outdoor pool and classes all hours of the day it’s worth it. When I’m not plague ridden I use it 4-5 times a week

BlowDryRat · 09/03/2024 20:11

£37 a month for access to all the leisure centres run by our local council (5 plus the athletics track). My nearest centre is 11 years old and has 50m and 25m swimming pools, a mixed and women-only gym, two sports halls and two studios for classes. I go to multiple classes every week and consider my membership very good value.

NoddyfromToytown · 09/03/2024 20:16

I pay £46 at a Bannatyne gym and that’s with 5% NHS discount. I get all classes included (Pilates classes were the main draw for me) plus use of the gym, decent sized pool, steam room, sauna and hot tub. They do offer cheaper memberships if you go outside peak times.

caffeinatedmornings · 09/03/2024 20:19

I am lucky to have a home gym but also have a membership at a basic gym for different equipment and change of scenery. I think the gym is about £24 a month. My precious gym was group coaching and £110 a month. I much prefer my set up now.
