Sorry I'm posting for traffic as AIBU is the only board anyone seems to respond. Woke up this morning with this on my eyelid. It looks like a purple bruise but I haven't knocked myself and its painless. Any thoughts?

Anyone?

Not an expert but it looks like a stye to me. A pharmacist should be able to help with something to put on it.

BusyCaz · 08/03/2024 22:09

Maybe you scratched it in your sleep?

Icantbedoingwithit · 08/03/2024 22:09

This happened to me. No rhyme or reason at all. Just faded and then was gone. Got some shock when I woke up like that though!

Icantbedoingwithit · 08/03/2024 22:10

Just to be clear, no stye, no lump, not sore, just bruised.

TheOtherMrs · 08/03/2024 22:13

Do you suffer from allergies? I get this during hayfever season due to rubbing my eyes in my sleep.

dreadisabaddog · 08/03/2024 22:15

Have you got a cough/ been retching or sick lately?

DSD9472 · 08/03/2024 22:16

You might have thumbed or fingered yourself in the eye at night and been unaware. I don't mean that in the way it sounds, but I'm sure you know what I mean 😬
I've scratched myself with a sharp nail at night and not realised till I woke with a scratch across my face. A cool compress might help, but time is the real healer of a bruise. I assume no issues with your vision, no discharge from the eye, no bruising/blood visible on the actual eye ball? Are you on blood thinners?

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 08/03/2024 22:19

I've had this before when I've rubbed my eye too hard

No, nothing like that, I just woke up with it this morning and DD asked me what was wrong with my eye

I had exactly this for the first time ever just last week. It appeared really suddenly and faded away after a couple of days. It was just a (very strange) painless bruise. Like you I was a bit concerned but it just went away. It looked just the same as yours, in the same place too.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 09/03/2024 00:07

Do you use a steroid inhaler or steroid nasal spray? You can get bruises from them.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 09/03/2024 00:10

Your eyebrow is beautiful btw.

@Wellhellooooodear i know this is an old thread, but I wondered what the outcome was? DH has had one pop up on his eyelid today!

AusNix76 · 08/08/2025 20:39

Was wondering if there was an answer to this. I woke up this morning with a similar bruise about 1cm across under the corner of my right eye. Has been a stressful week with disrupted sleep. Had a physio appt yesterday which hurt like crazy as my back is playing up so wondering if it has anything to do with that.

What's this??

just a busted blood vessel.
at a certain point it may be related to high blood pressure.
