Fed up with the current state we are in

SanctusInDistress · 08/03/2024 08:57

Am I right to be upset over the current state of things and that the future looks bleak?

nhs- don’t get me started

jobs - where on earth are jobs? Barely anything there and when there are they are looking for somebody who has done that exact job in an equal organisation.

bills - spiralling

food - at this rate we will be either back to the middle ages foraging for postage, or eating cheap nasty ultra processed stuff all of the time.

working conditions - there are two camps; the quiet quitters with chúpatz to get away with it, and the workhorses being worked to death.

brexit - I’ve yet to hear of a tangible benefit (apart from blue passports).

politics - everybody has run out of ideas. They don’t know what else to come up with.

poverty in work - spiralling

house prices (in SE where I live) - where are people finding the money to pay these prices?????

going out - impossible. Theatre tickets, cinema, meals out. It’s just become too expensive except for rare rare treats.

everything is at a standstill, waiting for this election so that something can happen again (or not) to jolt the economy for ordinary folks like us back into action.

am I just being unreasonable with being fed up?

Who did you vote for at the last GE?

This country is finished. There is absolutely no joy in anything, working hard doesn't pay, and the social contract we all believed in has gone.

Years of tory cruelty and Labour malaise have caused it.

Thisilldo · 08/03/2024 09:06

Vest wants to know who you voted for so she can tell you it’s all your fault if you voted conservative.

People have very short memories but we didn’t have a pot to piss in when Labour got the boot.

The conservatives have decreased the deficit by 80% but you left wing nutters keep on bleating about services.

The pain has been necessary. We were running out of other peoples money

Bravo, OP, you have absolutely nailed it. I couldn't agree more. I am lucky to earn a decent wage and have bought a house a while ago, but I still feel that my life has shrunk as there is no money left for the fun stuff like trips, and family members are badly affected by the lack of NHS care.

I believe her post is titled WE, but dont worry Jack if you are alright......

Outofideas79 · 08/03/2024 09:10

Not at all. In the time I've had a 3.5% wage increase (last year, prior to that wages frozen), my rent has gone up over 30%, gas and electricity has doubled, my car insurance will be 50% more this year. No jobs in my area to move on to. No dentists. Don't bother trying to get a GP appointment. My 74 yo mum was told she had to wait 3 months for a routine gp appointment to manage chronic pain. She herself previously was a nurse in the NHS. The country is on its knees. The councils are bankrupt and cutting services across the board, whilst hiking council tax as much as they are able. Civil service has a freeze on recruiting, so key services simply cannot be delivered effectively, those that are left are being worked into an early grave. Teachers are leaving in droves. Schools are rotating which years they can have in because they are so short staffed. But I suppose at least we all get a 2p reduction on out NI. That'll help pay the rental increase next month 🤦‍♀️

K0OLA1D · 08/03/2024 09:13

Don't know how anyone can vote that you're being unreasonable. All your points are correct.

It's gone to shit and I don't see an answer.

Presumably, you were referring to my post? Don't quite have the wherewithal to actually @ my name? How amazingly perceptive you are - have a fruit gum
Yes, people continue to vote for crap even when up to their eyes in crap, so worth asking. How amazingly perceptive you are - have a fruit gum
Please explain which bleating left-wing nutters were you referring to?

🙄. We were far better off in 2010 than now. The NHS was also rated 1st in the world.

I waited 6 weeks for a none urgent surgery when labour were in power.

I can now barely walk. Been on the list for 2 years

Can't use my right arm, been on the list for 4 years.

I'll take my chances getting rid of the tories. It cannot be much worse

At some point people will see the light and realise that it's been over a decade since then. Nothing has improved. All the figures suggest things are very much worse. If you're still bleating about labour then you're part of the problem.

Runssometimes · 08/03/2024 09:25

OP you forgot the environment, climate change and rising sea levels which if unaddressed really will affect huge areas of the UK, not the mention all the sewage and pollution in the waterways.

But yes, it feels very bleak and despite this country being my home for virtually all my adult life I’m seriously considering leaving. The thing that bugs me most is the general apathy and acceptance, people sniping at each other, the comparisons.

Everyone should have a decent standard of living and the fact that too many don’t and are in such poverty is a shocking failure of administration.

HungryBeagle · 08/03/2024 09:26

I don’t know why everyone automatically assumes that people complaining about the state of things on here must have voted Tory at the last election. Fewer than 50% of the population did, after all. FWIW, I agree with the OP. Secondly, never voted Tory in my life so assume that means I’m entitled to an opinion? Do I get a fruit gum?

lap90 · 08/03/2024 09:28

No you're not.

Lot of people are frustrated at the state of this country.

Missinsth · 08/03/2024 09:28

People talk about leaving this country as its sunk so low but where would you go?

Countries in Southern Europe are on brink of major drought and water crises for example. The grass always seems greener

DJSteves · 08/03/2024 09:31

I left and when I do come home the decline is getting more noticeable. Everywhere is crowded and People look miserable. I suppose when you are living it you don't notice it. No country is perfect but where I live is safer with better healthcare and I'm not paying out in tax an inadequate system.

stayathomer · 08/03/2024 09:31

I’m sorry to be that person but as long as you’re alive it’s something and there’s always nice and good out there to be found in the world. Until we’re done we’re not done (from someone who knows of too many people who’ve died recently, young enough people (40s and 50s), who wanted to live. I woke up to the most beautiful sky this morning and bawled because someone I know didn’t get to see it. Take strength from the nice things in life and try and get some positivity from the little things. Hope you’re ok op

TheFancyPoet · 08/03/2024 09:33

When the born here think that and throw their hands in the air, having very expensive houses, jobs, many cars and other things, so what are you going to do? Let it all be overtaken by people coming on boats, by air, by train, by bus on ferry or ................??????

Don't apologise for being that person - although I know why you did it.
We all need to be reminded from time to time.

Sourisblanche · 08/03/2024 09:42

We can see and appreciate the sunshine outside, (and I do and am about to go out for a lovely walk) but still think the country is in a mess.

I agree with you OP, and we are financially very secure, but I find it so frustrating and sad how quick the decline has been over the last 14 years.

Yes and no, we had it good here for a very long time and this is the result to be honest - throw in general western world decline, covid and basically we’re stony broke but still trying to live our champagne lifestyle. There was never a guarantee of the U.K. being a very wealthy country forever.

MarkWithaC · 08/03/2024 09:48

YANBU.
My mortgage just went up six-fold.
My DP is losing his work studio and there's nothing remotely affordable out there for him to move into.
My work (freelance) is looking like more and more of it will be outsourced to India, where it will be ultra-cheap for clients but the end product will be shite quality.
Men are being housed in women's prisons and going into women's spaces and sports.
Children are starting school not toilet trained.
There is no art, drama or music provision except in schools where parents are able and willing to pay through the nose for it.

Can't even type more, it's all too sad.
