I'm not a labour voter but I could potentially be persuaded for obvious reasons right now

I'd like to believe a new government could do 'something' to stem the rot in the NHS. But I'm not convinced.

Do you think it will help?

So there are massive staff shortages and the staff they have are stressed and exhausted and the stated Labour policy/ solution is to get them to work even more on evenings and weekends to reduce the lists. No, I don't think Labour has the answer to improve things.

And pay them. Stuffing NHS mouths with gold has worked ever since 1948.

Printspped · 08/06/2024 22:25

Maybe they won’t but what I do know is that it is an absolute shit show currently and the Tories have overseen this for god knows how many years.

You only realise just how bad it is when you need it. My mum died last yet and I can’t describe how bad it was. The staff as always were as good as they could be given the circumstances. The rest was fucking hideous. A 7 hour wait for an Ambulance on the floor after a fall, 3 hours in the ambulance outside A and E as they were too busy to even see her. Blood on the floor, 16 hours on a trolley in a corridor with about 20 others in the same boat, 2 days on a side ward off A and E, moving between wards and then hospitals. An absolute fucking shitshow.

I would advise everyone to look after their health because it’s fucking awful when you need help,

So sorry @Printspped 🌷

I am a labour voter but sadly the NHS in Wales is shambolic. I’m not sure if they’ll improve the NHS in England that much. Nor will the tories though I guess. I’m hoping labour will improve education and school funding

My family and I have all had amazing NHS care in Wales. My GP is fantastic. My elderly mother had all sorts of appointments, operations and interventions and has had excellent care. I work for the NHS in Wales and my Healthboard is fantastic. Always working to improve things and the team I work with are committed, hard working and dedicated and provide an excellent service that patients rate highly. The biggest issue is trying to save money. Taxing wealth is the best way I can see of getting more money into the public purse without raising income tax. I don’t think any party are brave enough to do that.

I think Labour are the most likely to prioritise it. Tories just want privatisation and they can all afford private. They do t care about people.

My friend's mother needs a cataract op as she can't see. She is 50 weeks through the current waiting of 125 weeks in Wales. Personally I think the NHS in England is pretty dire but the same wait is 25 weeks currently here.

Not too many people rave about the NHS in Wales.

I had a weekend scan and the staff said they were more than happy to be paid overtime and come in. Weren’t stressed at all and it’s worked to get waiting lists down. We just need the money. It’s out there but we need to tac wealth generated income not raise income tax.

I think for some things the wait is longer. But honestly, I can’t fault the care we have had. All my family have had cause to use it in the last year or so (life has thrown a lot at us) and I’m so grateful for the fantastic care we have had. I dread to think what state we would be in if it was insurance based. My mum would probably be dead. There is no way she could afford insurance.

I'm guessing your health board isn't Betsi cadwaladr @Oooooooodieeeee

The Tories devolving power to Labour in Wales is a sham. It’s in no way representative of what a majority Labour government could achieve. Labour in Wales only achieve as much as the Tories allow them to.

thegreenlight · 08/06/2024 23:22

I don’t know what people are expecting - it’s quite common in the US, even with their private healthcare, to have to wait months for an appointment as everyone is using the same system so resources are finite. Currently in the U.K. you will be seen quickly if private as fewer people use this resource.

I heard Scotland is much worse - what does Wales and Scotland do with the NHS funding? I guess the Labour leader is Wales is very busy with other stuff😂

No. I've heard starmer talk about the NHS but he doesn't mention solutions or why there are problems he just says.... My wife works in it....

I've also not heard a single positive thing about eduction.

Get the NHS back on its feet – The Labour Party

Labour has a long-term plan to get the NHS back on its feet, starting with a first step of cutting waiting times.

I think it was raynor in the last debate talking about the elderly on trolleys... And yet my dad was on a trolly in the end of long labour reign last time... If she said " Labour didn't improve the NHS last time we need a new stragety..." I couid get behind her but no same old crap

Voterswung · 08/06/2024 23:33

@BIossomtoes what does that actual say??

Tories tried to crack down on non doms... Non doms are the few and they have the means to bugger off.

justasking111 · 08/06/2024 23:40

Employers and employees could be required to pay into some sort of private healthcare. But Bupa etc would have to build new clinics, hospitals.

There's two SPIRE places near us, since lockdown ended they've built two new much larger places to accommodate growing numbers of patients especially the retired who are spending the kids inheritance on routine surgeries for hips, knees, etc. Getting MRI and other scans, seeing consultant for diagnosis, because our Welsh health board has been in special measures for eight years now.

Pre COVID you could get a private appointment within two weeks, now it's more like six weeks.

It's pitiful with a wife at the heart of issues I would expect far more detail

BIossomtoes · 08/06/2024 23:44

spending the kids inheritance

I think you mean their own money that they’ve worked for and saved for a rainy day. The time’s come to put the umbrella up.

You’ll get it when the manifesto comes out. There’s been loads of media coverage, why don’t you check it out?
