Neighbours decorators

We’ve got new neighbours moving in next door. They already live in our village and we know them well enough to chat to - been asking progress of the move as it’s fallen through a couple of times etc. it’s finally gone through and they’re moving in, in two weeks.

They’ve had decorators in this week, which would’ve been nice to have a heads up about but is what it is.

We have two DC (toddler and baby). We’ve just been woken at 7AM by the decorators coming in drilling away and banging away installing the new laminate flooring.

YABU - at least they’re getting the work done and it should be done quicker

YANBU - 7AM is not a reasonable time to start using power tools on a weekend.

Well, it’s happened now. If they aren’t finished by next Friday ask them if they could start after 9am.

I think there are usually guidelines re 8 am starts and also an earlier finish at weekends.

It's a bit early but it wouldn't really bother me that much.

Presumably it will be short lived, maybe even a one off at that time. if they carry on doing work particularly early/late then it's different.

Going through the same BUT they have rocketed through the house literally a room refurbished a week hopefully end in sight and a month of constant noise rather than months

It’s a bit early but it won’t be forever. They’ll sort it then move in. The house next door to me has just sold (terrace) and I know it needs quite a bit of work so I’m expecting an influx of tradesmen fairly soon. Just one of those things.

I’ve no idea how you’re still in bed at 7am with a toddler and a baby. Anyway it’ll be over soon. It’s a bit early but it’s a one off

LakieLady · 02/03/2024 07:57

It's early, but only an hour earlier than the permitted 8am start. And on the plus side, all the work will be finished sooner than if they started at 8.

It would annoy me, but I don't think it's worth risking a fall out with your neihgbours over.

Check your council website for the times they allow, but if it's only for one or two weekends I really wouldn't stress about it.
