To ask for your Chinese order

Pretty certain that 99% of households order the same thing each time, and I’d like inspiration to branch out and become the 1%!

In my household:

Special chow mein
Chicken with ginger and spring onions
Crispy shredded beef
Egg fried rice
Seaweed
Veg spring rolls
Tub of satay sauce!

I don't often go for a high street take away but if I do I always get special fried rice and salt and pepper ribs.

The Chinese place I most often order from does clay pot rice and I most commonly get minced pork patty on rice with a raw egg broken over it and mixed sauce Cheung Fun.

Other place does Chinese BBQ and I get soya chicken, belly pork and roast duck combo on rice

And another place that does loads of jiaozi

I do try lots of other stuff as well but still come back to favourites

God damn I'm hungry now

Sleeplesnights · 29/02/2024 11:09

Looking forward to a Chinese takeaway on Mother's day evening 😋

AlltheFs · 29/02/2024 11:15

We don’t have it often as we are rural but we try to have a rule to add one new thing each time to see if we like it. But you still need your safe favourites too.

Ours is:
King prawn balls (sweet and sour)
special fried rice
egg fried rice
chicken chow mein
crispy duck
beef in black bean sauce - but this is the thing we will sub for an experimental item
sesame toast
spring rolls

Minikievs · 29/02/2024 12:04

I'm really boring
Chicken chow mein
Chicken balls (no sauce)
Chips

Minikievs · 29/02/2024 12:05

Crispy duck pancakes if I can afford it!

Picklestop · 29/02/2024 12:10

Prawn toast
vegetable spring rolls
lemon chicken
beef in black bean sauce
sweet and sour pork
egg fried rice

aintnospringchicken · 29/02/2024 12:44

Chicken chow mein
Sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style
Lemon chicken
Beef with black bean sauce
Crispy shredded chicken in a sweet chilli sauce
Vegetable spring rolls
Egg fried rice

I must add that we don't order all these items at the same time. There are only 2 of us in the house so usually 1 or 2 main dishes from the list

Autienotnaughtie · 29/02/2024 13:07

Crispy seaweed
Prawn crackers
Beef chow mien
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Egg fried rice
Chips

DoAWheelie · 29/02/2024 13:15

About half the time I get my usual order then the other half I'll try out new things or different combos

We are more of a try a bit of a lot of things household so we don't really order main meals just lots of starters and sides.

Usual order:

Quarter duck and pancakes
Crispy seaweed (sprinkled into the pancakes)
Salt and pepper sui mai
Prawn toast
Crispy Won Tons
Peaking ribs
Salt and pepper beef
Sweat and sour fish

I used to get chicken balls with it but nowhere seems to do them round here anymore.

KreedKafer · 29/02/2024 13:31

Duck spring rolls
Beef in black bean sauce
Chicken in Cantonese sauce
Sweet and sour pork
Egg-fried rice
Special noodles

You haven't truly lived if you've never ordered a Chinese takeaway using a random number generator! It's mildly exhilarating and terrifying all at the same time. You just have to adjust the number ranges somewhat so you end up with the right number of starters and mains. I recommend it.

If choosing our order the normal way we normally get:
Kung Po chicken Hong Kong style
Boiled rice
Chicken and chips
Spring rolls
Prawn crackers
Fortune cookies

For full effect, make sure you go to an establishment with a Chinese menu. One of those ones that only comes printed in Chinese and bears no relation to the English menu. And order some random numbers from there.

You may discover something delicious you would absolutely never have considered choosing. The reward is potentially very high, but so is the risk that you’ll pull up intestines, frogs legs and chicken feet.

You may discover you adore chicken feet, of course. We learned we like century egg by accident.

sweet and sour chicken balls
duck fried rice
chicken chowmein
salt and pepper chips
curry sauce

Pandaandpurple · 29/02/2024 21:15

Ooh we’re having Chinese takeaway tomorrow night, hopefully celebrating after my DH’s job interview in the morning, and I’m looking forward to it even more now. My favourites are special fried rice and salt and pepper chicken wings. DH will have beef curry or shredded chilli beef. We used to get free sides with our order but they now do a free bottle of diet lemonade, which neither of us like so it sits in the fridge doing nothing for weeks ☹️

Pandaandpurple · 29/02/2024 21:16

Our takeaway doesn’t do siu mai but there is a great Chinese supermarket near my work so I buy a big bag to split out and steam at home.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 01/03/2024 14:03

Op you inspired me. I haven't been able to stop thinking about Chinese takeaways all week. I had a terrible day with my teen DD yesterday lots of MH issues) and so I treated myself.

There are so many things I love on these suggestions but I had to be disciplined and narrow it down to 2 things.
Sweet and sour chicken (with egg fried rice) and salt and chilli chicken wings. Absolutely divine. Left me craving more.

shellyleppard · 01/03/2024 14:14

Sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken curry, rice and chips. Prawn toast. Free prawn crackers cos we spend over £20 . But sometimes have beef in oyster sauce ❣️
