Does anyone on here use this app.
For people that don't know it's an app that brings the community together.

However, I find that there is so much much advertising on there. People have posted links to gofundme.

Ours if full of people moaning about pot holes/roadworks/the schools being shut due to storms, lost cats and adverts. However, I now know who I’m going to use if I ever need a plumber because people also post shout outs to tradesmen they’ve been happy with too.

ilovesooty · 26/02/2024 22:46

I got an instant 2 week ban from there recently. Apparently it was "belittling and shaming" to say that someone who was giving away their unneutered and unvaccinated kitten because it didn't get on with their other cat hadn't thought pet ownership through.

I've reported blatant racism, sexism, ableism and homophobia and it's been allowed to stand..

Alicewinn · 26/02/2024 22:49

I only use it to get tradespeople.

ThinWomansBrain · 26/02/2024 22:54

joined it in lockdown.
full of batshit weirdos convinced that covid was caused by 5g masts, and that the council was erecting 5g masts on council blocks as a form of eugenics.

Oh, and countless reports of people walking along the street strangely - and coincidentally 'and they were black'.

if all yours has got to put you off is a few ads and go fund me pages - it could be worse.

minipie · 26/02/2024 22:56

Here it’s 60% lost cats, 30% stolen cars, 5% arguments about council decisions, 5% everything else

CruCru · 26/02/2024 22:56

It used to be really useful (I got my piano teacher on there). Unfortunately the odd people have discovered it and it has become far less useful.

CruCru · 26/02/2024 22:59

Mine has multiple requests to swap houses / flats - these never get any response.

There is a woman who takes photos of random cats and posts them to ask if they are lost (they are just cats doing cat things). It’s got the point where even the odd people have lost patience with her.

There are the people who want to sell old furniture for loads more than it is worth. They never get any response.

OneMoreTimeBaby · 26/02/2024 23:00

I like the general idea of it, joined mine a couple of years ago, then removed myself from it because I could narrow it down to which house people lived in. I kept getting unwanted attention from men and as a single mum I didn't want strangers knowing a rough location of my house, it really unnerved me. I prefer the local facebook page.

Treehuggingmutherfunkin · 26/02/2024 23:24

Full of untrustworthy cleaners and traxes people charging peanuts so they can raid your house or do you over.
Only go by recommendations on that app and check the person's profile as I have caught certain cleaners pretending to be a client by recommending themselves.

jadey1991 · 27/02/2024 09:53

Don't get me wrong, I think the idea of having the app is useful, especially finding out what's happening in the local area, etc. Also for trademan etc. But to have people on there either trying to use it as a dating app, requesting money through gofundme(if it was for a special cause, I would understand), but to be asking for help with appliances I don't think it is right. Everyone struggles.

Most of the things your saying is spot-on.

When it started it seemed to cover a small, local area but now it covered a huge area. I liked it better when it was more local.
I agree it is mainly rubbish posts
