Dear MN’s, I need your help please.

Scenario- you arranged to collect someone from London meaning you knew in advance that you had to enter the congestion charge zone. This was pre-planned and so they asked for your car details so they could sort the congestion charge in advance and said it had been done by adding it to their congestion charge account ( no reason to doubt as they already have two cars set up). Fast forward and a fine for non payment of the congestion charge arrives because although the car has been added to the account it had not been added to autopay meaning it did not automatically get paid. You tell the person about the fine and they offer to go halves with you.

so this is the question and what I would like some help with please.

I am NOT being unreasonable to expect the person to to pay the whole fine as I believed the charge had been covered as promised

I am being unreasonable and it’s totally ok to go halves on the fine

Thank you

Wow she’s thrown away a close friendship over £45. Has she ever shown signs of being a CF/less than ethical before?

TomeTome · 26/02/2024 23:06

Text her and ask for the remaining £45. If it doesn’t turn up pdq I’d be done with considering her any kind of friend. If you get ££s and an apology just take a break and try to forget it.

Biggybigbiggles · 26/02/2024 23:17

Outrageous behaviour! She should pay the fine AND petrol!

nocompromisenecessary · 26/02/2024 23:21

Is their name Sam by any chance?

Noseybookworm · 27/02/2024 00:54

Well it's cost you 45 quid but at least you now know that this 'friend' is not worth your time or attention. Block her and move on OP.

Jamazon1 · 27/02/2024 01:03

If your friend blued your relationship, she would pay up and accept whatever cock up was theirs to manage as your only commitment was to drive. They said they’d sort out the CC, so that’s what she has to do. Not your monkeys, not your circus.

Bestyearever2024 · 27/02/2024 01:08

Definitely NOT a good friend

Also (imo) a liar and flaky as fuck

My thoughts entirely unfortunately, they don’t see it that way as they believe they have done nothing wrong and the website should just autopay once the car has been added to the account

Edited

Of course you are correct. My suggestion would be to ask them why you should be out of pocket, and let them know not to ask you about any other favours. Then don't bother having any kind of relationship with them

I would pay half but never let their face darken my door again 😂

this... it's the cost of finding out who they aactually are sadly

Plenty I think!

Saying they'll go halves is like saying it's half your fault. Jokers.

Hmm..perhaps she comes across as a bit entitled

To be fair I had this when I added a new car to the account but not also to the autopay section. It’s a terrible website. I appealed and they cancelled the fine

stillawip · 27/02/2024 17:14

Sorry, I may be being thick, but isn’t the reason for you collecting them relevant here? Ie Was it to help you with something, or for her benefit?

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 27/02/2024 17:15

'Hey CF former pal, can you transfer the other £45 please? It didn't come through on Friday. Cheers.'.
