AIBU to say that I've completely lost my clothes tribe and no longer know where to shop

In my 20s I loved River Island fand then as I approached my 30s I went for Per Una. I then loved Crew Clothing which went all flowery and naff. Debenhams was then my go to, I liked Mantaray and Apricot. In my 40s I had a long love affair with Fatface and Joe Browns but they've both gone flowery.

Late 40s now and I fancy a wardrobe refresh but have no clue where to go. Phase Eight is great for posh dresses (which I have) but I want nice, quality, smart everyday clothes and I'm lost.

Next and M&S are uninspiring, I sometimes like White Stuff but it's quite pricey for not great quality.

I live in quite a rural location, so choices are limited!

HELP!!!!

No advice but I feel your pain! Almost all of my clothes are from Next and M&S these days and I just feel so bland. I look ‘fine’ but I rarely feel stylish these days.

Allsaints?

3smallpups · 25/02/2024 22:52

I like most of your previous choices, do miss Debenhams !
Apricot is still going and has some nice bits , online better choice than the shops .
Roman, again online, often has some nice stuff. We have a shop nearby but it tends to stock all the floral polyester numbers, but online there's a wide range.

Smartiepants79 · 25/02/2024 22:54

M&S has had a resurgence for me as has, strangely, river island for more interesting bits.
Do like Apricot myself.

Fifiellz · 25/02/2024 22:54

I love Hush right now but I work from
home and appreciate it might be too casual for some.

BlondieSwan · 25/02/2024 22:55

I'm 53 and my favourite shop is River Island! 🤣

Go and have a mooch around some charity shops or vinted?

Happyshoe · 25/02/2024 22:58

I'm back at M&S tbh.

notacooldad · 25/02/2024 23:00

My wardrobe these days is full of Hush, toast , scamp and Dude, monsoon, phase 8 and Mint velvet for day and evening.
i am older than you at you at 58 but my friends in their 40s wear similar.

Katemax82 · 25/02/2024 23:01

Try lookerio

Lolabear38 · 25/02/2024 23:02

I find quite a lot I like in Zara

Rubbishconfession · 25/02/2024 23:06

Loving the Debenhams love!

I used to do a hybrid of online and instore shopping. And return the online purchases in store.

DontGiveADuck · 25/02/2024 23:15

I’m in my 40s and shop at New Look, River Island and Zara.

Sometimes find the odd item in Tesco.

Tbh I find M&S and Next dull.

Jumpingthruhoops · 25/02/2024 23:21

I always find posts like this curious. Am 45 now I shop where I've always shopped: Zara, Mango, H&M, All Saints, Whistles mainly. Sometimes RI but rarely. Still some Topshop online. A wardrobe of good quality basics that are interchangeable, with some statement pieces. For me personally, I've always seen places like White Stuff and Fat Face as frumpy.

Zonder · 25/02/2024 23:22

Seasalt

Saladcreamdreams · 25/02/2024 23:30

TU at Sainsburys (online)

justasking111 · 25/02/2024 23:38

Roman clothing has become my favourite for tops had a gorgeous jumper I wore this week for lunch out.

Bottom half I wear trousers mostly so very boring. I'll grab something from M&S, Cotton Traders, Primark.

Dresses again M&S, Fat Face, Sea Salt, Roman.

Blouses I love Wallis, they're so well cut.

Botanica · 25/02/2024 23:58

I've doubled my budget and halved my consumption. Favourite stores are now Sezane and The Fold.

Am finding that now in my mid-forties I feel much better in my clothes when they are natural materials and nicely designed with some structure.

For the same overall outlay, I'm enjoying being a little more selective and choosing more interesting styles.

CatamaranViper · 26/02/2024 00:00

God Im 35 and still wear newlook top to bottom usually. Well, it's the only place I find good jeans and the tops are canny. I've got many that I've had for years.

Jelliclecats · 26/02/2024 00:08

I’m quite a mix…House of Bruar, Joe Browns and One Hundred Stars are favourites.

Lifeistough74 · 26/02/2024 00:38

Joules used to be good , Burton was good for shirts years ago there was urban outfitters , marks and Spencer are good for trendy fashion they improved every piece of clothing for females but for me jack wills
And salt rock do good clothing so maybe getting a colourful fun dress from a super cool
Surf shop that also does smart fashion, there is cotton traders .

Moveoverdarlin · 26/02/2024 00:40
