To quit before I start?

I’m starting a new job in a new area this week. I’m bricking it, I know I can’t and it’s stupid but I’m thinking of throwing in the towel.

the job was a step up and I can’t even imagine what they saw in me. So worried I’m going to mess it up and get sacked. I’m worried that given I’ve no experience in this area (but lots in a similar area) I’m worried they were desperate and scraped the bottom of the barrel and found me and then does that mean it’ll be a crap job and crap place?

(i know I’m catastrophising a bit here, but I’m so nervous
aibu to ask for a little pep talk. No one irl I could talk to

It’s normal to be nervous, but remember you’ve been offered the job for a reason. don’t let self doubt hold you back.

Be kind to yourself. Plan something nice to celebrate your new job. Only you can hold yourself back right now.
Good luck, let us know how you get on 🙂

You’ve got nothing to lose! Have you left your last job already? If it’s either going in on the first day and seeing how you feel, or sitting on your sofa doubting yourself…. Why not give it a go?

They clearly saw something so fake it until you make it. I really lacked confidence when I started in my current role; I had major imposter syndrome for the first couple of months and then I realised I was doing the job and doing it well. If you quit now you know it hasn’t worked out, if you give it a go you might surprise yourself. Good luck OP.

Classic impostor syndrome. They’ve seen your CV, you’ve been for interview, they’ve picked you as the best person for the job. Yes, the first few weeks will be tough and nerve-wracking, but remind yourself that they want you doing the job. It’s a competitive market at the moment, so you must be doing something right. Good luck!
