Did a top up shop earlier, just of the bits we’ve run out of.

Two tubs of cream cheese
Veggie meatballs
Oat milk
Reduced loaf of bread
3 x Passata
2 x yoghurt tubs
6 apples
Margarine
4 x toilet rolls
Sink unblocker

One of the big four supermarkets. How much do you think it would cost? I was really surprised.

I’ll update with the cost soon

OP posts:
Hibernatalie · 26/02/2024 21:10

I added it up in my head and got to £19 so I was surprised at £30

Georgyporky · 26/02/2024 19:28

I do know what I'm missing, that's why I don't eat them.
I'm not a health-food crank, but I think it's sensible to avoid the chemicals in veggie food.

@Georgyporky

ill just go and let my broccoli & spinach know your thoughts.

Froggy99 · 26/02/2024 21:03

£23?

@Froggy99

less than £1 an item? Where do you shop??

honestguvnor · 26/02/2024 21:11

£34

SgtJuneAckland · 26/02/2024 21:11

Where did you shop?! I just put all of that into the Tesco app, no cheapest options used, some own brand but not value range, even put Mr muscle sink unblocker it came to £19.83
I would've guessed £20-£25

@shoppingcost

ive read your updates, but before I got that far I'd have said around £50, but depends on sizes and brands.

30
unless it's all big brand and/or organic.
then closer to 50

TheChosenTwo · 26/02/2024 21:16

I guessed £42:
Two tubs of cream cheese @2.50 each
Veggie meatballs £5 (main meal? No idea really as never bought these)
Oat milk £3 (no idea, never bought it!)
Reduced loaf of bread £1
3 x Passata @£2 each
2 x yoghurt tubs @2.50 each
6 apples £2
Margarine £5 (depends on size and brand)
4 x toilet rolls £3
Sink unblocker £2

all guesswork obviously as I don’t buy most stuff on this list!!

Treehuggingmutherfunkin · 26/02/2024 21:23

Veggie meatballs can be pricey and toilet paper if you get good quality so assuming those things made the bills go up.

Back21970 · 26/02/2024 21:25

I would have said around £25 but must have been a while since I bought passata as sure it was around 35p in Tesco!

I never buy yogurts so would probably be shocked at the price of them too.

Sodullincomparison · 26/02/2024 21:31

I thought £20 when I counted it up. I spent £50 at the weekend on hardly anything.

StarDolphins · 26/02/2024 21:34

Georgyporky · 25/02/2024 18:48

I can't guess; I don't buy artificial man-made food like marg & "meat"balls.

Don't buy sink unblocker, soda crystals do the job very cheaply. Better still, don't let the sink get blocked. Get one of the things with tiny holes to cover the outlet, & don't put any food, or especially fat, waste down the plughole.

You sound like so much fun, bet you’re drowning in people just wanting to spend time with you.

Cream cheese 2x £1.30
Meat-free balls £2.30 (£2 clubcard)
Oat drink £1.40
Bread £1.70 (full price)
Passata 3x 60p
Yoghurt 2x £1.10 (2x 500g, 2x 1kg seemed a lot)
Apples £1.70
Margarine £2.15 (£1.50 clubcard)
Toilet tissue £1.69
Drain unblocker £2

Fair enough. Maybe it’s not as outrageous as I was thinking. Majority supermarket brand, 2 or 3 ‘branded’ items. £30. Just fed up! It would have been £20 a few years ago

Blimey, that's cheap. I would have said at least £40.

@Back21970

ill go back with you if you need a volunteer!!

I buy Fage Total yougurt as it's the lowest carb option. It has gone up SO much! I'd say approx doubled & it was expensive compared to other brands.

it's now £5.50 for 950g. I think it used to be £2.55 ish

Amberjane41 · 26/02/2024 23:44

So how much did it cost

HereWeGoRoundAgain · 27/02/2024 07:39

@Amberjane41 Read the whole thread, OP has already posted...

BaronessBomburst · 27/02/2024 07:47

I came up with €33 based on a Dutch prices. The UK used to be cheaper but since Brexit you seem to have caught us up.

FUPAgirl · 27/02/2024 08:18

I was reckoning £25 but very hard to tell without brand details or pack size.

It definitely is scary though how much dearer one wee bag of shopping is getting!

CutiePatooties · 27/02/2024 14:35

Gah - I guessed £20 so I was shocked! As I thought I was using recent prices, but clearly not.

Hubby says shop at Aldi!

Palindrone · 27/02/2024 22:23

I guessed £35 - £40 before I saw your update.

Cluborange666 · 26/09/2024 22:09

£30-35
