Clearly I am - and slightly deranged. but I cant tell DH because he'll think Iv'e gone mad. So putting it on here instead

Its a round mirror with bits of square mosaic mirror round the edges.

i woudlnt care but my sister has got something reallllllllllllly importnat going on and I so so so hope it all works out ofr her and dont want to jinx her.

Are mirrors only bad luck if you break them yourself?

oh fgs

Wisteria · 24/03/2008 17:04

don't be ridiculous.

Iota · 24/03/2008 17:05

ROFL

Miggsie · 24/03/2008 17:06

...I think it's if you personally break them.
However it it really worries you give it away or face it towards a wall until the thing with your sister is over.
Are you thinking of the Feng Shui intepretation of mosaic mirrors? They consider they split chi (luck) and dilute achievement.
So if you are truly worried cover it and face it to a wall.

kizzie · 24/03/2008 17:13

LOL at responses!!!!

I knoooooooow I am being mad - am not usually suspicious in the slightest. dont get all this magpie stuff.

kizzie · 24/03/2008 17:16

I mean superstitious.

Am always suspicious !!!

Thank you for your sympathetic response Miggsie. i think id better avoid the 'covering it up' route & just tell myself its ridiculous instead .

(and keep my fingers crossed for my lovely sister!!!!!!!!!)

iheartdusty · 24/03/2008 19:25

give it away and get something else
or swap it for another mirror

CountessDracula · 24/03/2008 19:31

you are being a twit

They didn't BREAK it to make those bits they CUT it

In fact every mirror in your house I can guarantee will have been cut from a larger sheet. So if you are to throw this one out then they will all have to go!

DeeRiguer · 24/03/2008 19:37

why do you attach the bad luck to the mirror?
are they connected
or just in your mind?

i echo my friend lil stevie wonder..

..if you believe in things you dont understand and you're sufferin'..superstition aint the way..

expatinscotland · 24/03/2008 19:41

yes, YABU.

it's a mirror!

MonkeybirdisboredWITHbuns · 24/03/2008 19:43

see a doctor in the morning.

PABLOP · 24/03/2008 20:54

it wouldn't matter if you did break the mirror, it is a superstition, an old wives tale, really cannot understand why intelligent women can believe in this rubbish.

ladymariner · 24/03/2008 20:57

Its only an old wives tale, don't worry about it. Why is it these tales never bring anyone anything good, only bad things? Take no notice.
this from someone who always says hello to magpies...

Shitemum · 24/03/2008 20:59

You have to break it yourself. I broke a huge wall mirror when I was 7 and things were really not good for the next 7 years, but started to improve after that. It's hard not to be superstitious if you are that way inclined.
You can do a protection spell with salt sprinkled round the mirror or burn rosemary twigs and sprinkle the ashes. Whatever makes you feel better about it.

Shitemum · 24/03/2008 21:00

oh, shit, you're supposed to say hello to magpies?!

jocat · 24/03/2008 21:00

If you are concerned you should just put a cloth over it. But like previous person said I think they cut the glass. I know exactly where you are coming from though always better to be safe than wonder!

PABLOP · 24/03/2008 21:00
Hmm
ladymariner · 24/03/2008 21:04

Well my mum goes the whole hog and says "good morning/evening/afternoon (delete as appropriate) captain" to them (!!!) but I just give them a bit of a cursory nod, or a quick "hello". I know its stupid but there you go!!

mrsruffallo · 24/03/2008 21:06

If you see one magpie it is supposed to be bad luck unless you quickly address him and say heelo mr magpie please go on your way
two or three together greeting is unneccessary

I would give the mirror away

wannaBe · 24/03/2008 21:08

"always better to be safe than wonder!".

get a grip. seriously.

expatinscotland · 24/03/2008 21:10

i've had a lifetime of bad luck.

never broken a mirror in my life.

LyraSilvertongue · 24/03/2008 21:10

I have one of those mirrors. Now I'm worried.
I don't open umbrellas indoors though. Supposed to be bad luck. And DP freaks if he sees a single magpie

MonkeybirdisboredWITHbuns · 24/03/2008 21:11

Hate to break it to you, ladies, but Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein pretty much have this one sewn up...

mrsruffallo · 24/03/2008 21:11

But have you walked under ladders?
Wasted salt and not thrown it over your left shoulder?
