BMW active tourer

Posting for traffic and also because I can't find a car specific topic area.

Does anyone have any feedback on the BMW Active Tourer and how good it is as a family car. Family of 4 plus dog. Occasionally taking a Grandparent out and about with us.
Would be used for day to day commuting, UK hols.

Im also considering VW Tiguan. I'm getting myself confused with it all tbh.

I had one.

It was nice. Too small for six people though really. Boot space is reasonable when only using the second row of seats. I’d only use the back seats for very small people!

It is compact though, I prefer my small SUV.

hby9628 · 22/02/2024 21:29

Thank you. It's the 5 seater one I'm considering rather than the 7
I've got an smax atm which is past its best. I admit the space has been really useful but we can afford to downsize a little. I'm just not sure if the Tiguan would be a better inbetween but the spec on the BMW looks nicer
I'm driving them both tomorrow so I'm hoping that will help me decide.

I have recently swapped my 2012 Vauxhall Zafira for a 2021 Skoda Karoq. The Karoq's boot is huge and my DDs (23 and 20) were very comfortable in the back along with my DM for a 140 mile round-trip at Christmas. The Karoq is a sister of the VW Touran (one of my colleagues drives a Touran and commented that our dashboards are very similar). My Karoq is a 1.0 but it has a turbo and it doesn't feel underpowered (most of my driving is on motorways).

Hi we bought one based on recommendation on MN and we love it!! It has almost everything we want in a car. The thing that sold it to us is the back seat which can be slid forward to create more room in the boot, the space and height in the back, my son is 6'3"! We can also seat 3 people in the back comfortably.

@Ronniechops thank you that's helpful. We will potentially be doing a 4 hour trip with my dad which would mean me in the back with 2 kids (9 & 13) so don't want to be too squished!
The boot space seems okay and we can get a roof box so that doesn't really concern me too much for hols.
I just can't decide if I would prefer a higher driving position.

@snoopyfanaccountant the Kodaq look good too...I'll keep in on the list depending on how the drives go tomorrow.

I love being higher and having a better view. We also have a Mini and after being in the BMW it's like driving a go kart Grin

hby9628 · 22/02/2024 22:09

My DH was trying to get me to have a mini but I just feel claustrophobic in them. We stopped at a mini garage which was how we then ended up seeing the Active Tourer

I just remember one more thing, we bought the middle of the range model which has normal suspension. The top of the range model has firmer suspension and you will feel every bump!!

hby9628 · 22/02/2024 22:13

It is the M Sport we are trying and that is something I'm a bit worried about......

It's not the prettiest car but it's the most practical we've ever had!

The Active Tourer shares the same chassis and engine (1.5) as the Countryman which I love but the Countryman is not as good value as the Tourer.

I think that's the model with the firmer ride 😵‍💫

hby9628 · 22/02/2024 22:17

@Ronniechops I think it is

I'm making notes on what to check out and I've specifically asked that we go round roads with bumps so I can see how it feels as that is my day to day reality of my commute unfortunately

I have a 220d luxury Active Tourer (2016) and absolutely love it!
Unless you actually want a sporty car I wouldn’t go for the M sport as it is a hard ride. Also the automatic is one of the few cars where it’s supposedly more economical than the manual one.
Obviously it’s not as big as the SMax which I also looked at but it’s got a good boot and three adults easily fit in the back - depends how big your dog is though!!
Overall it’s a lovely easy car to drive and I would’nt swop it for a mini as I like the higher driving position and it’s easier to get in with a bad back!

hby9628 · 22/02/2024 22:31

@Nannydoodles thank you. Great feedback. I think it's going to come down to how comfortable the drive is.
We have a cavapoochon so not a massive dog!

We have the Sport model (not M Sport). If they have one of those in the garage see if you can try them both and see the difference.

Hope you like it 😊

ZenNudist · 22/02/2024 22:45

Hmmm well I'd certainly consider the 7 seater version as I currently drive an m sport gran tourer. Planning on getting a few more years out of it because I love it so much. I love my m sport, not a hard ride on my 2 series but nice and nippy.

hby9628 · 23/02/2024 17:08

Feedback....it was an amazing drive but I think overall a bit small for me. I felt a bit claustrophobic and I sat in the back when DH was driving and it was pretty bumpy so I it's not quite what we are looking for.

You can’t go wrong with a bmw but honestly I found the Tiguan excellent for multiple dogs and family and on diesel etc
