Is this normal?

I have been listing lots of things for free as we are moving and trying to get rid of stuff that’s not used or played with anymore. I knew that they would be popular as they are good condition and free.

however this morning I woke up to multiple messages from people for example:

11pm: Is this available?
1am: ??
5am: Rude

Several people have sent messages to this effect too!

Does this happen to you too when you list stuff for free on Facebook?

Are they all from the same person? If they are then they're odd and need to sort out their understanding of human sleep patterns.

If they're all different people at different (but antisocial) times then it's normal, it's just nocturnal people doom scrolling.

Hahaha that really amused me for some reason.
OP, you were very rude. Don’t you know you should have stayed up all night to field any potential messages that might come in 😉

So many websites are a free-for-all. In our daily lives we carefully curate the people we interact with. Then you go online and see how it really is…

I don’t know if you’ve ever worked in a public-facing role but I have heard all sorts of things working in shops and restaurants! People are insane.

If by normal you mean does this happen a lot, then yes. If you mean is it normal behaviour, not in civilised society, no Grin

My DM isn't a hoarder, but after 35 years in her house, and three kids, she has accumulated a lot of stuff she will never use again. She briefly listed some on freecycle and quickly stopped as people were so damn rude.

Occasionally I will brave FB marketplace for her if there's anything of value she wants rid of as she doesn't have an account. I dread it every time but I think I've been quite lucky with people being polite and prompt to collect! Have I jinxed myself now?

Dogzombie · 22/02/2024 12:40

I used to list lots of stuff and people were
polite. Then had one person collected moving boxes from our front garden and sent me messages threatening me saying I was mocking her for being disabled through the window. We weren’t even in at the time!

after that I stopped for a while and recently started listing again and have multiple people sending me millions of messages and complaining if I don’t respond in an hour!

Is it on a social media site, lol?

We've always done it via auction sites - sero p start and will end aution as soon as someone wants to come and pick it up. Often get emails take it off the auction site and sent a tv, sound syte and toys, microwave to good homes for free ad no hassel.
