To think this is fantastic, of course. Now can we sort out women’s rights wrt women’s spaces, and stop this 1%Of women have penises nonsense?

Respect biological women’s spaces or be sued, that kind of thing?

Your rights won't be. How can you have women's rights if they apply to any man who wants them?

How will my women's rights not exist if they properly implemented the buffer zones outside anti abortion clinics?
Why would trans people have any bearing on that?
How would my rights not exist if they sorted out the extortionate childcare costs which would have helped me get back into work so much sooner?
There is so much more than "women v trans" which some seem to think.
Half the time we're wanting the same thing, we should be standing up for it altogether in my view - bodily autonomy (right to an abortion, right for trans men to have control over their body)
Right to be able to access medication (eg birth control)
Etc etc

Look, I am strongly GC. But this argument that "womens rights cease to exist if a man can identify as a woman" is just plain wrong. Womens rights to single sex spaces, yes.

I think we have been over all this before and I think you're being very naive.

We now have the concept of 'legal sex' which can be different to 'biological sex' and no clear mechanism in the law to prioritise biological sex. How can women secure their rights to single sex spaces, shortlists, care, etc, etc, when men with GRCs can pitch up with a legal document (birth cert) that now states their sex as female?

AdamRyan · 23/02/2024 16:50

Those are single sex spaces. Womens rights are a lot more than that.

Sure, but they won't be specifically women's rights.

Granted, biology will make a nonsense of some of these rights being granted to men, but the concept will be eroded.

Do you have to shoehorn your opinion about trans people into every subject you talk about?

If it happens to be relevant, as it is in this case, there is no reason why not.

How is it relevant to the menopause?

blacksax · 23/02/2024 17:01

HermioneWeasley · 22/02/2024 12:02

That article is about employers failing to make adjustments for the menopause might be sued for sexual or disability discrimination. It is nothing to do with women’s spaces.

but the point is that it’s potential sex discrimination because only women experience menopause and women are a sex not an identity

Yes, it won't be long before the DIDs decide they are being discriminated against because they don't go through the menopause (while conveniently forgetting that a lot of other people in the workplace don't either).

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 23/02/2024 17:06

What's a DIDS?

Yes, it won't be long before the DIDs decide they are being discriminated against because they don't go through the menopause

Although going by this at a guess it's a derogatory term for a trans person going by this comment and a wild theorist "I bet this is what they're gonna do next!" which'll get thrown out as fact when nothing of the sort happened and they didn't try to claim menopause at all?

Thank you :) Apologies for misinterpreting your post.
I think in this case the OP often starts threads in the same vein and some of us are a bit bruised by it.

Nothing to apologise for! I'm not as prolific on the FWR forums as I used to be and have NC several times over the years. But you and I are definitely in agreement on almost everything I think!
