Shamelessly posting here out of desperation

I promise I’m not a troll

So since August I’ve been having diarrhoea. This is a long side a gurgling, bloated gassy belly.

I’ve had a test for coeliac a test for immuno, something a, various inflammation poop, samples taken. I am now having an FT test and I’ve requested a parasitic test from the doctors today as well

I’ve been referred to gastroenterologist, but God knows how long that will take

I’ve cut out dairy wheat sweeteners and much more

I am taking beneficial bacteria, a good quality one

But yet it persists, and I’m at a loss now. I need to get better because I feel drained when this flares up which is multiple times a week.

I’m early 40s, haven’t travelled abroad for many years female, two children

has anybody experienced anything similar or has anybody got any idea what I can do?

IBD?

Andtheworldwentwhite · 21/02/2024 17:47

I would suggest you look at ibs. Just got a trail check out the fodmap diet and see if that helps. It’s a pain to do. But now I follow no problem.

Figgysmum · 21/02/2024 18:10

I've had the same. I’ve had tests with no luck but after years of trying different things, I’ve found most fruit and vegetables are out of bounds, as too are oats, beans and pulses. If I eat absolute rubbish like cakes, buiscuits and white bread, then I’m absolutely fine. The only breakfast cereals I can eat are rice crispies and cornflakes. Sounds ridiculous I know. 😳

Ibs

IBS

DepartureLounge · 21/02/2024 19:14

Do you eat chocolate? Most of the major brands use palm oil now, which has this effect on my stomach. A lot of processed foods include it now tbh so perhaps the ingredients list on something you eat regularly has changed since August.

SoupAnyone · 21/02/2024 19:16

ask for test for ovarian cancer

Octavia64 · 21/02/2024 19:19

It's IBS.

Long and boring process to work out what triggers you I'm afraid.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/food-intolerance/

The most common triggers are listed here.

While you are waiting for the referral -

Buscopan helps with stomach cramps

Painkillers also help with the bowel cramps

Keep liquid up

I find hot water bottles help, and hot baths.

Not really. But palm oil is on my radar since I discovered Rice Krispie squares contain it (and fructose).

checking labels on everything now. And one of those fussy allergy people at restaurants who needs a special menu. Urgh. Just want it to go away.

Do you take any supplements? Magnesium can diarrhoea, others might do too,

ItsallIeverwanted · 21/02/2024 21:21

I started taking fish oil and it had this side effect. I think the suggestions of IBS are probably right, but just suggesting it in case you haven't connected it with a vitamin or supplement as the other poster said. Also good idea to have tests with GP as you are doing.

Gettingfedupgrrrr · 21/02/2024 21:54

Have you had a colonoscopy ? Are you losing weight? Have they checked your poop for blood? ( If they haven't GET THEM TO DO IT, dont take no for an answer.) Check any medications you may be taking for side effects. Some supplements are full of weird additives and fillers that may exacerbating an inflamed bowel.

CatOnAMushroom · 21/02/2024 21:57

This was me last year.

Fodmap diet sorted it out with the added benefit that I no longer have period pains for the first time in 30 years

I would recommend the Monash fodmap app and join their Facebook group

CatOnAMushroom · 21/02/2024 21:57

P.s. mine got worse after I had Covid

SnowSnow · 21/02/2024 21:58

Just to say I had issues with diarrhoea and going up to 25 times per day. I turned out to have severe bile acid malabsorption so when you do see gastro if they don’t mention this ask if you can be tested. This was after colonoscopy and small bowel mri came back normal. Medication for this has been life changing

Poor you it sounds awful :( just to add soya is often linked to dairy intolerance and is in EVERYTHING. Both my daughter and a friend are intolerant to both dairy and soya but nothing else
