That Prince William has asked for an Israel/ Gaza ceasefire? Who cares and what authority does he have to do so? Press reporting it as if it’s a significant thing. So odd

I don't think it's being reported because anyone is ascribing him any authority on the matter. But the royals generally stay entirely apolitical. The story is one of them straying from that stance.

ShareTheDuvet · 20/02/2024 23:39

Because they require validation and to look important.

His dad is famously not apolitical and meddles in all sorts of things he shouldn’t be.

It’s ultimately an entirely meaningless statement on Will’s part 🤷‍♀️

Because the RF is historically apolitical / neutral and he is the heir to the Throne (not a minor royal). It may also be an indication of how he intends to reign. Although I suspect it is more a case of being seen to be apolitical rather than it being the case.

I don't think the press are reporting on it because he has authority, but because they generally report on the royals (it gets views).

And I don't think it's bad or inappropriate that William spoke out. There are people who remain completely disinterested in the genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza, but who might be interested in news about the royals. What is happening now is unconscionable, but one day we will look back and ask "how could we have let this happen"?

Flowerfairie · 21/02/2024 10:54

Yes, I guess I meant more that the tone is ‘now William has said it, it shall be’! Just riled me as he really know nothing about it

Unfortunately I suspect that there’s little anyone can say that will make an iota of difference.

LilaDidIt · 21/02/2024 12:15

@Flowerfairie He "knows nothing about it"? There is ample information available to anyone who wants to know. You don't need to be an expert to realise what's happening is terribly wrong and unjust.
