Any one up? Really worried about DD

Hi all. I’m really worried about my DD. She is 8 and, over the last year, has had many episodes of dizziness. She is under a paediatrician and was reviewed on 5th January and we were told to keep an eye on her. She then had a few more episodes so we were told to book in at the GP for a blood pressure check and ECG with a nurse (booked for this week).

Half an hour ago, DD woke up crying, saying the back of her head and her forehead were really hurting. I got her water and the pain subsided after about a minute.

I am absolutely terrified - my dad has a brain tumour and he had the same symptoms as DD. She has also had another back of the head headache a couple weeks ago but nothing that woke her from her sleep before.

She is well otherwise (so can’t blame it on a virus).

I am in such a panic that I have just this moment emailed her paediatrician and asked if I need to push for a scan because of all of her symptoms, and if she thinks it
could be a brain tumour.

im sorry to waffle but I am genuinely terrified.

What shall I do? A&E diagnosed my dad as he had a big seizure, and I am so scared that Dd has something really similar.

I’m so sorry you guys are going through this. Keep advocating and pushing if things don’t feel right x

I know this might not help - but when I was ten I blacked out a number of times, dizziness, he aches. My uncle had recently died due to a brain haemorrhage and my mum was beside herself. I had all the tests and scans, it was migraine but the symptoms present differently in children. It took a while to get the diagnosis. But it was correct - I still get them!

In all likelihood this will be something That can be treated easily if she will grow out of. But I know it’s a worry:

You’re doing the right thing to insist on a scan. And as a pp has said if they won’t do it I’d go down the private route.

NCForQuestions · 20/02/2024 08:54

A few things spring to mind but I'm not a doctor, just a lifetime migraine sufferer.

POTS
migraine - can often start in small childre
CSF headache
hydrocephalus - Hydrocephalus is often worse when lying down and from what you say about fluids during pregnancy, I'd want that eliminated early.

I hope you get some answers today.

Sending a big hug your way. Honestly just do not leave until you have been given a scan. My daughter was poorly for 6 months and it was only me pushing and pushing that got us some answers.

Oh OP I'm so sorry you've been dealing with this for such a long time. I have nothing to offer apart from my thoughts and hope you get answers soon 💐

Capricornandproud · 20/02/2024 09:23

Sending lots of love and luck to you both op 💕

Zaranj · 20/02/2024 09:23

Best wishes OP. Sending 💐to you and your daughter. Keep advocating and I hope you get results and a solution. Only advice is have a list of her medical history in bullet points. Also write down your questions and the action you want taken.

Parentofeanda · 20/02/2024 09:28

my cousin has a brain Cyst, he's 17 and apparently must have had it for years as its so huge, i would get her checked. He had same symptoms but was only diagnosed when he had a seizure, they tried saying it was epilepsy at first.

ns87 · 20/02/2024 09:31

Sending you all the love xx

I'm not sure that is hugely helpful for OP to hear right now? She's already terrified.

Do hope you are seen soon OP. Will be thinking of you.

Yes the lack of tact on here is astounding!

anunlikelyseahorse · 20/02/2024 09:41

Your user name isn't very apt Mamaalwaysknowsbest.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 20/02/2024 10:23

This is so scary. Handhold Flowers

Bluetrews25 · 20/02/2024 10:25

Incidentally, I know someone with Chiari and the only effects are occasional dizziness, as far as I know.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 20/02/2024 10:25

Hope she gets the scan OP and good results 💐

AInightingale · 20/02/2024 10:26

Always trust your mother's instinct OP. Make an absolute nuisance of yourself if you have to. I hope you get the scan today and that it puts your mind at rest at least. 💐🤞

SwordToFlamethrower · 20/02/2024 10:29

Insist on a brain scan! Say you're not leaving till you get one.

Stay strong mama

Saladpops · 20/02/2024 10:29

My DD had similar symptoms but headache was in the temples not back of the neck. She had an MRI and am now nervously waiting for results.

Hope you get seen soon.

StealthSpinach · 20/02/2024 10:42

I have Chiari, and this sounds very familiar. It can only be diagnosed from MRI (doesn’t show on CT).

Sending positive thoughts to you and your daughter - I hope you get answers.
