Not aibu just intrigued. This thread was done on here ages ago and it was so fun. I have two:

Pasta is gross, I'll eat it but its not delicious as people make it out to be its cold slimy dough.

I'm sure she's nice but Beyonce is overrated.

OP posts:

@ParanoidGynodroid Jesus did exactly that......

nopuppiesallowed · 20/02/2024 14:49

@Gilles27 No. I don't mean funeral planning (though I'm happy for my husband to plan mine). I mean planning for what happens to us after death - what happens to our souls (well - this is a thread about unpopular opinions!)

Oh. I see. 🙄

SpicyMoth · 20/02/2024 15:25

Youtube is superior to TV.
People will cry, "Oh but your attention span!"

But I can watch 2 to 3 to even 4+ hour long pieces of content with little to no adverts depending on the adblocker/in-video sponsorships.

I'll take skippable adverts and content I'm actually interested in rather than 5 minute cheesy advert spam every 15 minutes and endless channel surfing just to find something decent that I've likely already seen anyway any day!

@JurassicParkaha

The healthiness of vegetarian and vegan diets is overrated. Case in point South Asian countries with veggie diets and no alcohol who have a lower age of death and greater propensity for bone disease, heart disease, diabetes etc than Mediterranean and some East Asian populations who eat meat/fish/alcohol in moderation.

I agree. Being a vegan your whole life is a bad idea. Many vegans (in the western world) have a superiority complex and think they're better than meat eaters/dairy eaters, and act like they're more intelligent. It's embarrassing. Blush

I know around 8 people (mid to late 20s to early 30s now) who were vegans for 10-12 years, and they gradually introduced themselves to eating dairy again. They knew deep down that being a vegan for life is extremely unhealthy.

I even caught a 'vegan' eating a fruit scone in M & S cafe the other week. (I was walking past the cafe.) I called over 'hiya Louise, enjoying your scone?' Grin She went flame red, and said nothing. She was particularly mortified I think, because she is a preachy vegan. Sorry... 'vegan!' All the LOLz! 😆

I reckon some vegans do sneakily eat dairy, and the odd chicken sandwich when no-one's looking. Grin I mean, they'd have to right?! Who the fuck would be a vegan for life?! Why put yourself through THAT?!

And don't even get me started on people raising their CHILDREN as vegans! Hmm

How do you know if someone is a vegan?

Give it thirty seconds and they'll tell you.

REP22 · 20/02/2024 15:27

Downton Abbey is irredeemable tosh. As is Game of Thrones.

Kids in restaurants, bars, and planes are fucking annoying especially if they have been given a device to keep them quiet and they're not using headphones

Knitgoodwoman · 20/02/2024 15:31

This is going to be very unpopular, but you should get weighed with your luggage.

More weight = move expensive ticket, because more weight means more fuel.

I'm sick of having to pay extra for 1kg of luggage, when I weight 40kg-50kg less than some men boarding the plane, they say it's for fuel, but if that's the case, the large chap should be paying more. It's just how commerce works.

I’m not sure this is a fair comparison. Millions of people across South Asia live in poverty. Most South Asians aren’t vegetarian. Also, people of South Asian descent have a higher risk of diabetes than some other ethnicities, which could be partly genetic.

This refers to the middle classes in the South Asian countries, not the rural poor. And of course large parts of South Asia do eat meat but there are entire states and communities that are primarily vegetarian. They are the only data we have on long term vegetarian populations and their health outcomes in comparison with populations that eat meat/fish/alcohol. I'm South Asian and have also noticed this anecdotally.

It is universally accepted by researchers that the Med and Vietnamese diets are the healthiest in the world, and this is visible in their health and mortality outcomes - these diets are not vegetarian. So I have no idea why anyone thinks being vegetarian/vegan is better for your health in the the long run.

Psychotrist · 20/02/2024 14:54

I think they interview people who were clinically dead, ie no brain activity for a certain amount of time, and then were resuscitated again so some people do live to tell the tale. However, how much of the experience or if any came from when they were actually brain dead and how much is just random stuff thsf your brain has made up after the fact who knows.

I never understand why ‘the evidence’ of someone who was close to death and survived is somehow proof of life after death. They were not dead - they survived, any experience they had was from neurones still active in their brain. This is not death.

Woodyandbuzz1 · 20/02/2024 15:39

Well, you might get all sorts of anti discrimination backlash for proposing this, and accusations of fat-bashing, but as a fat person myself I would be setting the world record for weight loss if this were to happen. This would be the biggest motivation ever.
It wouldn't be so much the money, but the humiliation of the weigh in!

Blue Zones where populations live longer than average have diets which are largely plant-based. The daily food intake of people living in so called Blue Zones is about 95% vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes. They do not eat much meat, dairy, sugary foods or drinks, and processed food.

You can eat a lot of vegetables and legumes but the positive effects will be negated by eating sugary foods and foods cooked in bad fats. Which happens with Indian diets I think.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 20/02/2024 15:44

Having more children when you can’t provide or understand the basic needs of your existing child/ren and SS is involved is possibly not the best decision.

Nah...commerce works precisely by not weighing passengers, because very few people would fly with an airline that did this!

It isn't unfair though; everyone gets the same amount of luggage allowance and nobody is penalised for being tall, muscly, pregnant or whatever. But I know it's an unpopular opinion thread!

Direstraightsagain · 20/02/2024 15:54

surely someone else has this problem …..

People who walk really slowly sometimes two plus abreast on narrow pavements or walkways with no regard for others who might need to be quick.
Similarly - people who suddenly stop 🛑 in public places and block supermarket isles / pavements etc and have a chat while a queue forms behind them. Forcing an ‘excuse me’ moment that surely could have been predicted (see public place)

I hate The Repair Shop. It's so horribly mawkish. The producers cynically doing tight close up shots of bereved people crying should be ashamed of themselves. Other programmes that do the same (looking at you, Great Pottery Throwdown this week) can also get in the bin.

Thementalloadisreal · 20/02/2024 16:08

Probably true, as vegan junk food is just as delicious and unhealthy as non-vegan junk food.

It’s a lot healthier for the animals though. And the planet.

Vegans think they are morally superior. Because they are.

People, if your comment revolves around the existence, opinions or lifestyles of other people, it is not lighthearted.
