To wonder what posh Mums cook for dinner…

I have just seen Pippa Middleton’s bikini photos on the DM. Three different bikinis so far, washboard abs & nothing jiggles as she chases three kids. She could easily pass as a fibreglass mannequin. I’m wondering why it is that the Middleton women and affluent women (even middle class at my child’s school), always seem to be so impossibly slim. I struggle with my weight and I would love to see the groceries, fridge contents, packed lunchboxes and dinner plans of the other half. Obviously I know what healthy eating and cooking is but, the bodies of Mothers these days is next level. Why am I struggling to keep my tummy from flopping out while women in their 40’s pull off wearing linen mini shorts (not in UK) and high waisted jeans.

Pippa etc will spend at least a couple of hours a day exercising and will eat next to nothing.

Bit of steamed fish with spinach. That sort of thing.

WandaWonder · 19/02/2024 03:27

Probably the same stuff anyone eats, same way some posh chefs say when they are at home they have baked beans on toast sometimes

Not everyone does the cliched class 'I must eat lobster because I am rich' thing same as 'poor' people dont all eat turkey twizzlers or whatever

catscalledbeanz · 19/02/2024 03:32

I used to be a private chef for a minor royal family. it was steamed chicken or fish and veg , fruit and youghurt 98% of the time. The women are tiny portions too. 2% it was feasting.

Sprogonthetyne · 19/02/2024 03:41

I don't think it's what they eat, so much as time. They can spend lots of time exercising because the nanny's there with the kids. They can eat what they want because the chief will make it, so are not limited to eating what the kids will eat, so they only need to cook once. Also if they want to 'treat' themselves, their not financially limited to ti being a Mars bar or nice biscuits.

Henrysmycat · 19/02/2024 03:53

I see them in my circle. Duchess Kate copycats.
They average 90mins of exercise every single day. Pilates, cardio the lot. Many spend an inordinate amount of time and money on other treatments, infrared saunas, icebathing, some electronic pads they wear while doing bare short of classes. They go to people with names like Cellulite Slayer for monthly massages.
Their diet can be extreme and it’s relentless. I know some of them on the same diet for decades. Steamed, air fried with no oils, 80% of their diet is veggies of the green variety. Everything plain. Even going out, their choices are thought out. Soups for meal if the soup is non starchy. Salads have the carbs like croutons removed with the sauces on the side. Never have I seen one of them eat a burger with all the trimmings.
i have decided early on that I love my food and it’s one of life’s pleasures so I’ll dip my veggies in mayo/aioli/sauce if on offer and very rarely I’d say no the the steak chips.
but this us how many of them remain a size 6/8 with washboard abs.

WhatILoved · 19/02/2024 05:09

They will have people cook for them. But to have muscles like pippa there will be more than steamed veg and salad. I'm thinking lots of fish, chicken etc.

Nots456 · 19/02/2024 05:11

I'm 40 next year and my physique is similar to PM. It hasn't actually changed since I was 16: Size 6 and weight 7.5 stone, flat stomach, toned.

I've never been on a diet and I eat whatever I want. However I have a naturally small-ish appetite, I'm vegetarian and I dislike sugary 'treats', sugary drinks, chocolate bars or anything artificial or highly processed. I do eat good homemade cake now and then, a quality croissant or some plain dark chocolate. I don't drink alcohol, only occasionally. No smoking.

I don't have a car so I walk and cycle everywhere. I don't want to lose weight so I'm focussing on building strength and flexibility through yoga.

I have siblings who are overweight and the biggest difference between us is that they are happy to eat ultra processed foods and I am not. I think this is the secret really.
I eat whatever I want but none of it is ultra processed.

If there's a choice of a fruit or plain yoghurt I always choose plain as it's less likely to have sweeteners and flavourings in it. I won't eat anything that is an artificial colour. I won't eat cereals as most of them have crap in them. I cook plain organic porridge oats and put fruit on top. All my dinners are cooked from scratch. I'll rarely buy anything ready made (only if desperate and then will opt for something with minimal ingredients and processing). I eat quality organic butter but not margarine which is full of rubbish. I buy quality cheese but won't touch the rubbery supermarket stuff. Organic free range eggs. Lots of vegetables. Quality bread that is just wheat, salt and yeast. Etc etc

HarrietTheFireStarter · 19/02/2024 05:22

So you don't actually want to know what posh mums cook but how the Middleton sisters stay so slim? Combo of genetics, anorexic tendencies and only eating crumbs.

Your description of your diet is hardly what most people mean when they say "I've never been on a diet and I eat whatever I want" 😂😂

WhatILoved · 19/02/2024 05:35

Can't say same for Kate but Pippa has got quite big muscles and once you have those you need quite a few calories. I doubt Pippa eats nothing

sashh · 19/02/2024 05:49

I would imagine it starts early with a nanny organising a balanced diet for you that is cooked by a chef.

Then you are in school with either a school meal or a packed lunch approved by the nanny.

Then boarding school so not much chance to get to McDonalds and lots of sport and seeing other people's bodies.

By the time you are in uni you are in the habit of eating nutritious foods and you have the money to not worry about throwing food away or living on the cheapest things which are mostly processed.

Again you are probably doing sports as well.

As an adult you will have a chef and can order what you want in terms of calories / carbs / protein etc.

As you are probably not working outside the house you can go to the gym every day, or to yoga or dance classes.

Steamed veggies, barley and fish. Spot on 😂

MikeRafone · 19/02/2024 05:58

go To the gym at 5am and see who is in there, this will give you an idea OP

or 8am if an evening

obv some will have a home gym they use daily

as pp states up thread, it’s steamed veg and fish/chicken with small portions & probably eaten very slowly

Newchapterbeckons · 19/02/2024 06:00

Many of my friends are like this. Juicing, vitamins. Very very little actual food. Fasting constantly.

MikeRafone · 19/02/2024 06:02

Thing was if you turn the click back to the 70s you had many mothers who were slim, they didn’t have the muscle- but they did over eat and had meat and two veg for dinner regularly.

That doesn’t build muscle, it might be they are slim but you can’t build muscle on juice and water

Actually, I think it is! I've never liked most desserts and loads of people throughout my life have commented on my apparent self constraint etc. The simple fact is, I don't like them so I don't feel the need to eat them. If we go out for a meal, I'm the one who doesn't order dessert.
When I had DC, I had to make an effort to remember we needed to eat three proper meals a day, not just when I was hungry. That was my downfall!

Meadowfinch · 19/02/2024 06:13

Cook good quality ingredients from scratch ( or have someone do it for them), and lots of exercise. At least two hours a day.

They have the luxury of time.

CHEESEY13 · 19/02/2024 06:16

Oh Primrose - digital enhancement can do unbelievable wonders with photography these days.......

PermanentTemporary · 19/02/2024 06:26

Tiny portions.

The slim mothers of my friends and I in the 70s did indeed 'watch their figures' intensively and also quite a lot of them smoked. Much as I hate cigarettes, they were using them as appetite suppressants and quite effectively. My mother grew most of our food (kept chickens, large veg patch, fruit trees) and still struggled with her weight all the time.

Newchapterbeckons · 19/02/2024 06:29

I still find it shocking that Joanna Lumley ate cotton wool.

Newchapterbeckons · 19/02/2024 06:29

In her younger years. Not sure about now.

Newchapterbeckons · 19/02/2024 06:30

Being openly anorexic is acceptable in many circles.

PermanentTemporary · 19/02/2024 06:35

Jesus @Newchapterbeckons really? That's horrible.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/02/2024 06:52

Posh mums probably don't cook at all. The posh side of my family..the husband does all the cooking, gourmet french food from scratch. The mum just does Pilates and rides her horse all day. She won't even ever go to a shop! My rich neighbour eats ready meal pizza express pizzas, Waitrose breaded chicken tenders, cucumber and carrots with her 2 kids. Whenever I went to her parties they only ever served cheese or catered cold buffet like an office lunch meeting!
Both these women are slim. They have a couple of hours a day for exercise as kids in posh nursery. PMid looks like a bloody Olympic athlete. She must eat no carbs or sugar whatsoever.
