Hotel got the bill wrong

Imfullofcrazyideas · 18/02/2024 16:28

Asked for the bill. Had 2 rooms and they merged the bill. Told us it was x amount. Then when driving home they phoned us to say they’d undercharged and would be an extra x amount and to ring them to sort it out. Do I have to pay?

Well presumably they have your card details so can take it anyway

SecretSquare · 18/02/2024 16:29

Of course. On what basis wouldn't you?

CatOnTheLap · 18/02/2024 16:29

Yes.

Midnlghtrain · 18/02/2024 16:30

I would say yes - you agreed to use the hotel for x amount, they've got the end bill wrong but realised and corrected it.

Didn't you notice the bill wasn't what you expect to pay?

Lifestooshort71 · 18/02/2024 16:30

If the new amount is correct, yes. Why not?

Birdsworth · 18/02/2024 16:30

Do I have to pay?

Yes, yes you do have to pay for a hotel room you have used.

Missmarplesknittingbuddy · 18/02/2024 16:31

You have to pay the correct amount for the two rooms , so if you have been underchargedyou need to pay the difference. If you had been overcharged and realised on the way home you would of rightly expected a refund .

TraitorsGate · 18/02/2024 16:31

Have they undercharged? Have you checked, if so of course you pay, you'd expect a refund if they'd overcharged,

Cosyblankets · 18/02/2024 16:31

If you'd been overcharged wouldn't you have called them and sorted it out?
It's no different

AnnieBuddyHere · 18/02/2024 16:32

As long as you've had what they want to charge you for, why wouldn't you pay?

GlasgowGal82 · 18/02/2024 16:32

This happened to me once and they had charged the balance to the credit card I'd booked with before I had the chance to call them back (was driving).

Whatdoisaydo · 18/02/2024 16:32

When they said it was x amount did you know they had undercharged you?? Were you expecting it to be more? I reckon you did but took the chance they’d not realise. They did so yes you need to pay.

WhatsitWiggle · 18/02/2024 16:33

Does the hotel printout say E&OE on it? Means they can ask for the correct amount if they've made a mistake.

shoppingshamed · 18/02/2024 16:33

Would you be posting if they'd realized they'd overcharged you?

TokyoSushi · 18/02/2024 16:34

If it's correct, then yes, if they've got your card details, they'll likely just take it anyway.

IncognitoUsername · 18/02/2024 16:34

Yes, you should pay for the service you received. I’m guessing they have your details so what else were you planning on doing? Just ignoring them?

Herdinggoats · 18/02/2024 16:34

I’d ask for the full breakdown again as I always like to go to through hotel bills with a fine tooth comb, but yes, if I had spent the money I would pay the bill

TraitorsGate · 18/02/2024 16:53

Ask th3m to email the receipt and the booking details and say you'll have a look when you get home

Skodacool · 18/02/2024 18:21

Greensleevevssnotnose · 18/02/2024 16:29

No they can’t, it’s illegal to take payment without authorisation

LimoncelloSpritz · 18/02/2024 18:23

Didn't you check the bill when you paid / know what you were expecting to pay?

Imfullofcrazyideas · 22/02/2024 12:20

They gave me a bill that they’d merged from 2 rooms and it said £1700. We’d paid a deposit so seemed right at the time taking that into account. We were on our 5 hour drive home when they kept ringing as when they’d merged the bill it didn’t account for everything. Because they couldn’t get us immediately They tried to take the balance on a CC my husband was up to his limit on instead of waiting so we could check (hubby notified by bank they’d not paid the reminder £350 we owed) they just took the money. My husband had also asked for valentines chocolates which didn’t arrive so needed to check all that. The new bill they gave seemed to say it was an addition £210 only it was all v confusing. It does irritate me they went ahead and tried to get the balance off a card without our say so. Anyway all paid now but the whole process was clumsy and they made the mistake yet made us feel we were in the wrong

It is authorised. They put the card down for charges.

Haydenn · 22/02/2024 12:33

Surely you were both in the wrong? They issued an incorrect bill, their mistake. You checked an incorrect bill and didn’t realise it was short, your mistake.

Its also gone from they rang you on the journey home, to they kept ringing you? The fact your very first question was around do you have to pay, makes me think you are a bit of a chancer and are now trying to manufacture a bit of outrage so you can claim a discount.
