to not want people to buy easter eggs for my DC's?

They had in total 7 Easter eggs each. I really don't want my DC's scoffing loads of chocolate and I won't eat it. Do you think it would be rude of me to ask (next year), for people to either not buy anything at all or buy something else? Such as clothes or a toy?

I do remember one easter when my granny helped us blow the yolk out of real eggs and we painted them...

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 21:55

I think you could have just put "chocolate is a good thing", sleepycat!!

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 21:56

Can i come for breakfast, carmen? Please?

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 22:03

Yes please do come, lady! I need help, as my fridge is starting to resemble a Christmas fridge

There is no room. Choc, trifle, choc cookies, cake, cheese, leftover lamb. Loads of unopened(so far!) eggs in garage. I dont even fancy any bloody chocolate just cos we have loads

amytheearwaxbanisher · 23/03/2008 22:05

yabu fgs its one day a year a bit of chocolate wont kill them honestly!you could always melt down one a week and put it on biscuits as a treat if you hate it that much

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 22:06

Your house sounds like my idea of heaven!!! And if you like, I'll bring wine. Or even better, galliano and vodka, we can make harvey wallbangers and do this chocolate frenzy in style!!!!

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 22:09

Yum yum. I love alcohol even more!

Had Cava while i was cooking the dinner(im posh as well) and now the Bacardi n cokes are out!

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 22:11

Thats it!! We were clearly separated at birth, I always knew I had a like-minded twin out there! Pour one for me, girl

princessmama · 23/03/2008 22:13

The worst thing is my dd received two nestle eggs this year

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 22:18

Oh god, cheese!!! Has anyone told you you're fab!!!

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 22:20

Thanks. I try my best

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 22:21

here, here, sleepy!

the Easter bunny hid eggs all over hte house, all over the garden.

he put them in the damndest places.

DD1 had SO much fun!

Cluckinnora · 23/03/2008 22:26

It's not just the lo that have fun, Dh and I had a great time hiding the eggs in the garden at 11.30pm last night.(ahem) was just helping out the EB who I believe was really bust yesterday.
Lighten up. If you lo's eat a healthy diet normally then a little Easter blow out isn't going to harm them.

DD has had 3 packs of crisps today but she did give them up for Lent and as she said she has a lot of catching up to do.

Cluckinnora · 23/03/2008 22:27

bust??
I mean busy.

mylittlepudding · 23/03/2008 22:46

Personally I'd ask before giving and have got nephews/ niece books this year. But I wouldn't be cross or offended. I'd go for the bake them into something theory too. Ours were made to last for weeks - I don't think the occasional days over-chocolate-eating is harmful, we believed it was bad, and it made us want to do it even more.

TheAntiFlounce · 23/03/2008 22:56

If Easter Egg chocolate is so bad you won't give it to your children, why would you inflict it on 'needy' children?

AbbeyA · 23/03/2008 22:56

I think that some of you have forgotten the joy of being a child!

PrincessPeaHead · 23/03/2008 23:02

They each got a big chocolate hen from the easter bunny
They also had a big easter egg hunt for little foil wrapped bunnies, lambs and chicks, to which their friends were invited. It was great fun, they loved it.
Thus they have a very nice large stash of chocolate, provided by US, I don't think they need any more from random people. The thought of 20 easter eggs stretched all around the living room makes me feel ill, WHO would want that? And why is eating completely excessive amounts of chocolate (for breakfast, natch) something to be encouraged?

No wonder childhood obesity is such a problem. Is there no concept of restraint?

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 23:04

PPH, it's one day out of the year for them to have a little fun.

Anyhow, next time, you can send all that Nestle to me - I've added that Hugh Fealessly-Eatsitall page to my favs so I'll have a use for all that crap chocolate.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 23:06

I remember when I was single, the things I used to eat for breakfast.

Graham crackers shoved into huge jars of Nutella.

Cold Chinese food, including the bacteria-laden rice.

PPH, they're going to leave your home and eat junk .

AbbeyA · 23/03/2008 23:06

If you know that they are going to get a lot then you don't have to bother getting them any yourself!

PrincessPeaHead · 23/03/2008 23:09

We eat a fair share of junk here expat (I WAS brought up in N America remember - it is in my blood ) but I really don't get the whole GORGING thing, I just think it is excessive and not something I encourage. We don't really do greed for greed's sake...

tbh my kids seem to be able to take or leave chocolate. They like having it, but they barely eat it. They have all eaten about 1/4 or less of their chicken and the remains are all sitting around in named ziplock bags. Looks like a chicken massacre in here . I'll give it a week or so and then whatever is left will go in the bin... they won't miss it

Candlewax · 23/03/2008 23:10

I have to say my little ones loved getting all the eggs but there was no way on earth that they could keep track of what they did or did not eat. So someone had to reduce their lot and if you don't eat chocolate yourself, bin a few! It's not like you are throwing away loads of money, easter eggs are about a £1 each and those who have given them, they feel good. so don't you worry about binning any - no-one will know.

soapbox · 23/03/2008 23:13

I persuaded mine to chuck it all into DD's chocolate fountain, which they get bored of after about 2 minutes. Brilliant - did the same at Christmas, which was the last time the fountain had an outing

So several eggs dealt with very efficiently!
