to not want people to buy easter eggs for my DC's?

They had in total 7 Easter eggs each. I really don't want my DC's scoffing loads of chocolate and I won't eat it. Do you think it would be rude of me to ask (next year), for people to either not buy anything at all or buy something else? Such as clothes or a toy?

I don't like my children to eat chocolate and certainly not up for them having egg after egg so for the first few years of excessive chocolate I ate some myself ! and gave the rest away to, for example, a local group of young single mothers (just happened to be what was going on that week).

Then people started to catch on, a few hints helped, and our girls started to receive books, soft toys, colouring books & crayons, bath toys. My response to these gifts has always been 'thanks sooooo much for not buying them chocolate, how thoughtful of you, what a lovely gift'. This year they have 1 chcolate bunny each, everything else was either a rabbit shaped biscuit, a book, soft toy etc etc

ChocolateRockingHorse · 23/03/2008 20:57

Very unreasonable. Donate them to others if you don't want them. Although why you can't let you children eat them gradually I'm not sure.. chocolate freezes well

Nemoandthefishes · 23/03/2008 20:58

oh but to add we wont be binning it will keep it loitering until we need to make rice crispie cakes or the like.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 20:58

don't chuck them!

bake them into stuff or melt them and add some butter and use them to dip bits of fruit in or make frozen bananas.

can also crush them and stir them into ice cream or cheesecake.

PrincessPeaHead · 23/03/2008 21:00

But I don't WANT gifts for Easter!
It isn't christmas, it isn't their birthday, it is the day that we break lent and think about the resurrection if you are that way inclined
I don't want people to give my children Easter presents, it isn't that sort of a day!

Chocolate Rocking Horse if you can suggest somewhere I can give them, I will do it gladly. And I don't know about your freezer, but I barely have room for a dead mouse in mine, let alone a heap of overpackaged, mostly shite quality, chocolate

PrincessPeaHead · 23/03/2008 21:01

expat I only cook with swiss choc
that cadbury's crap they make eggs out of is pretty rank, surely?

PrincessPeaHead · 23/03/2008 21:02

and so un-fair-trade its untrue
I can't believe the packaging on what ends up being about 125g of bad chocolate...

luckylady74 · 23/03/2008 21:02

last year we smashed them up, made them into crispy cakes and gave them out at playgroup.

Probably because I mentioned that I'd done that with them they only got 1 egg each this year and clothes/ money instead. I do find it bizarre that they get presents at all, but it would be rude to refuse them.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2008 21:02

perfectly reasonable for putting into the kids' biscuit dough, PPH.

or their ice cream.

K999 · 23/03/2008 21:04

PPH..surely throwing them in the bin is a complete waste?? Why cant you recycle the packaging at least???

Scattybird · 23/03/2008 21:04

I agree with you PPH. I don't want gifts for Easter either. I don't want anything apart from to have my family around me and think about why we celebrate Easter.

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 21:05

scottishmummy · 23/03/2008 21:15

salsmum · 23/03/2008 21:29

ISN'T THERE AN OLD SAYING THAT CHOCOLATE IS WASTED ON THE YOUNG???
PLEASE SEND ME ALL YOUR UNWANTED CHOCOLATE /EGGS THEN 1 WEEK A MONTH I CAN GORGE MYSELF SILLY!

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 21:38

Just ration it. My ds had 4 big eggs and another off us, plus Lindt bunny, 2 packets of mini eggs in the Easter egg hunt. Only problem i have is where to store them!

Ds ate some choc before breakfast and ate a whole Flake egg this evening!! Dont mind at all. He ate all his dinner and we usually eat well so Easter Sun and Mon he can have what he likes! And then he will probabaly have a bit each day.

He did also get a tshirt off my sister and so did the baby. That was nice, but i dont really completely agree with the buying of clothes or toys as a rule or giving money. Just seems another way of getting expensive pressies to me.

wHEN I was a kid you just got an egg and that was it!

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 21:41

Oh God, what's happening to the world? My brother and I used to get loads of eggs, and that was about 25 years ago so this isn't a new thing. I remember coming back from Ireland at Easter and seeing a line of eggs that stretched right the way round the units in the living room - there must have been 30 eggs there. We didn't eat them all at once and we aren't bad people because we were given chocolate.

Lighten up!

EyeballsintheSky · 23/03/2008 21:44

I meant 20 eggs... Still a lot though...

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 21:44

That sounds lovely, sleepycat!

carmenelectra · 23/03/2008 21:49

Eyeballs, so true.

We didnt have clothes or toys for Easter but all our relatives bought my sister and me an egg each and we ended up with loads. We would always eat one as soon as we got up for breakfast and carried on all day! My mom positively encouraged it!

Its not like we ate like that all year. Of course the same applies to Christmas, where you must eat a selection box for brekky.

CocoDeBearisCocoDeBear · 23/03/2008 21:51

YABU. Send them my way, I'll 'dispose' of them.

ladymariner · 23/03/2008 21:52
