I get really irritated when someone won’t accept “I don’t know” as my answer. Something along the lines of:

”Sarah is having a baby! Do you know when it’s due?”
”No, I didn’t know she was pregnant”
”Her oldest is four and she didn’t want a big age gap so it’s probably soon” <Looks at me expectantly>
”I didn’t know she was pregnant so no idea I’m afraid”
”But when do you think it would be?” <Looks at me expectantly>
”Still no idea. Between now and six months?!?”

Or

”I need to hire a nanny. How do you recruit a nanny?”
”I don’t have a nanny so couldn’t say. Have you talked to Sarah, she will probably know?”
”I should probably talk to a nanny agency, which one should I call?”
”I’ve never hired a nanny through an agency so no idea I’m afraid”
”But you must have some idea!”

It has to be okay to sometimes just say “I dunno”.

Almost everything. 😂

The "we are experiencing a high level of calls right now " answerphone message whenever you ring a company or the council. No you're not - you just haven't hired enough staff to answer the usual number of phone calls because you are cutting g costs to the bone while still charging customers a shit load of money!

OP I hear you! DS is the worst for this

him: who’s the best footballer in the world?
me: I don’t know ds. I don’t know much about football
him: it’s probably Messi, right mum?
me: I don’t know ds
him: but it probably is, right?
me: screams silently into the void

My nephew was the best for this - no-one in my family has any interest in football, so he'd try me and then DH and the move onto DS1,2 and DD.

I did once say Maradonna and he tried to kick me.

People.

inabubble3 · 15/02/2024 20:48

People at work (we work hybrid- not a particularly close/chatty team) who put on the teams chat about how they’ve got through so much work today and/ or how their client told them they were so good at their job. To the whole team in a group chat …… like they need a little pat on the back from everyone . Bore off. While everyone else is doing the tricky stuff quietly

Meowandthen · 15/02/2024 20:50

So many things.

Those who waffle and don’t get to the point
Those who fail to read anything properly
Groups who walk four abreast with no regard for anyone else
People with zero spatial awareness
People who fail to understand that their single experience is not definitive
Anyone who believes in homeopathy
Fluffy types who call total strangers hun and sign all social media posts with xxx
Men in business with an inflated ego (most of them)
Pick me women
Men who think that having a penis means they know more than me about everything
People who can’t be bothered to get your/you’re right
Anyone who puts apostrophes in plurals
People who sniff
Performative parenting
Parents who think the world should revolve around their children
The arsehole who smacked me in the ankles with their trolley a few days ago
smug and superior cunts.
Dithering
Women who do that fake tinkly laugh

I could write a book on this topic! 🤣

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 15/02/2024 20:51

People who cry and film it for social media.

Yes, so annoying. Just when you think you're going to escape, Darren-who-is-trying-to-impress-the-manager pipes up "Just one last question ..."

Oh this and it's always the usual suspects.

We WFH and do all of our meetings on Teams and because I'm at home I forget that people can still see me and do the biggest, involuntary eye roll, whilst muttering FFS under my breath. To the point that people have messaged me and said you know we can see you right? 🤣

mixedmoomin · 15/02/2024 20:54

People who think I'm going to be thrilled I've been invited to their party, wedding or any social occasion. No, just no. I don't impose on other people in this way so why do they always impose their invites on me!

Yes!

I could add 20 things about types on SM to my list.

Mystic94 · 15/02/2024 20:55

Obnoxious, entitled people. Aggressive people who scream and shout to get what they want. Dangerous drivers

Cel77 · 15/02/2024 20:56

People who say "I just tell it as it is". No self control, any excuse to vent /complain /be rude under the pretence they're always being honest. Usually loud and narrow minded.

Gallowayan · 15/02/2024 21:01

Some people are incapable of saying it. Having the insight to know you don't know things is an admirable quality. "Why ask me?" is the best reply.

neilyoungismyhero · 15/02/2024 21:07

@Poorlymumma - our bus driver actually asks the people to move if they're hogging the seats.

Porfirio · 15/02/2024 21:19

Jobsworths.

Nervous drivers and people that refuse to drive on motorways or reverse park.

Martin Lewis has a thing about this at the moment ! He is inviting people to report through his website….

Bad hygiene and poor housekeeping. I love houses and iabu but it makes me sad when people just neglect them and they are filthy or disrespected, even if it's their own home just sort it out!

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 15/02/2024 21:50

Indecision - especially over tiny things, it should take an hour to decide what you want for dinner

Liars but especially poor liars. If you are going to lie to me at least be convincing and have been doubting you but those that lie so poorly that I immediately know it's bullshit irritate me even more.

LadyBird1973 · 15/02/2024 21:51

Not being able to collect a prescription because the pharmacist is on lunch between 1-2pm. Even though I wouldn't be seeing the pharmacist anyway, the prescription is all bagged up and sitting there and there's no reason for the lady on the till not to be able to hand it over. I know she can't, legally, but this makes me so mad. Especially as lunchtime is then people need to get prescriptions!

FancyJapflack · 15/02/2024 21:56

DH and me watching a tv programme/film:

DH: Who’s that? Is that her husband?
Me: I’ve been watching it for exactly the same amount
of time you have. Your guess is as good as mine.

Repeat and repeat with similar questions until I start shouting.

Aroundthewaygirl · 15/02/2024 22:05

It would probably be easier to list the things that don't irritate me about people, as people usually irritate the hell out of me most of the time. 😂

MamaToABeautifulBoy · 15/02/2024 22:06

Time trialling cyclists who use the rural roads where I live as a racetrack and have no consideration for other road users.

Often these ‘MAMILS’ cycle in a reckless manner and ooze hubris. They are quite happy to hold up the traffic for miles and miles. Not everyone has all the time in the world. Sometimes people have to be at a place at a certain time and need to get from A to B for entirely practical reasons. Being forced to stare at the skinny arse of some Lycra clad family dodger for mile after mile of single lane country road when I have an important appointment to attend is utterly frustrating. Just bloody move over when you know you’re holding up loads of traffic and then maybe everyone won’t hate you 😊

Mountain bikers are fab, though. Always considerate and if they hold the traffic up for too long, will move over and allow the traffic to pass and get on with their day.

Lateness. Most is completely avoidable.

Mrspatmoresspoon · 15/02/2024 22:07

People talking too loud in public. There was a woman in soft play yesterday that was insufferable.
