I get really irritated when someone won’t accept “I don’t know” as my answer. Something along the lines of:

”Sarah is having a baby! Do you know when it’s due?”
”No, I didn’t know she was pregnant”
”Her oldest is four and she didn’t want a big age gap so it’s probably soon” <Looks at me expectantly>
”I didn’t know she was pregnant so no idea I’m afraid”
”But when do you think it would be?” <Looks at me expectantly>
”Still no idea. Between now and six months?!?”

Or

”I need to hire a nanny. How do you recruit a nanny?”
”I don’t have a nanny so couldn’t say. Have you talked to Sarah, she will probably know?”
”I should probably talk to a nanny agency, which one should I call?”
”I’ve never hired a nanny through an agency so no idea I’m afraid”
”But you must have some idea!”

It has to be okay to sometimes just say “I dunno”.

People who don’t, won’t or can’t simply say what they mean & mean what they say.

Perhaps it’s the Northerner in me, but I much prefer straightforward plain speaking and calling a spade a spade to faffing about with incomprehensible euphemisms & jargon. Drives me bonkers. It’s one of the reasons why I couldn’t work in the public sector. Nobody actually speaks in plain English. Everything is expressed in language which disguises the truth and has to be decoded.

Ariona · 15/02/2024 19:23

People who ask stupid questions.

People who just faff or are slow.

Even worse are the ones coming towards you taking up the entire width of the pavement (especially rambling groups) who won't go into single file and just expect you to leap into the road or hedge so as not to disturb their walk/conversation! These days, I just stand still and make them go around me!

Oh yes I hate this as well. Everyday on my way to work, I see the same woman with 2 children walking towards me, all holding hands. I'm sure the children are about 8+ not tiny toddlers who are likely to run off but I've literally never seen them move into single file or let go of hands, I generally have to walk on a muddy verge or in the road to pass them.

People who don’t read emails or letters properly then proceed to ask questions WHEN IT’S RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM

This is the worst! I think people's brains have fallen out.

Today I had someone approach me needing an explanation of a very short work plan with 4 numbered bullet points that were clear as mud.

She is senior to me!

Professional standards everywhere have dropped to an all time low IMHO.

I am sorry to say it, because I sound like a GOW, but have people been affected by phones to the extent that common sense has gone?

So for example, those who have never read a map, just followed an arrow on google maps - are we seeing the results of this in lack of ability to do the most basic things?

I recently had the misfortune of being in a car with a colleague who panicked when his sat nav failed. I knew the route but he seemed never to have had to navigate without it.

I was recently told it was "unusual" to have an A- Z in the car. It's useful though!

Yes! I know the pension is great but I don't want to translate at work!

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 15/02/2024 19:29

The sort of people who feel the need to tell you all about the latest conspiracy theory they’ve become obsessed by. I don’t bloody care, I’m fortunate enough to have the gift of discernment and am able to spot deluded, swivel-eyed, paranoid nonsense at a thousand paces. Just fuck the fuck off.

This has made me chuckle because it is verbatim every conversation I have with my DM 🤣 I’ve now taken to saying one (or all) of the following; “you can ask me as many times as you like, I still don’t know” “why don’t you ask X as it’s about them” “who gives a shit!” “You asked me that yesterday and I still don’t know” and very occasionally “ffs, I’m not the bloody oracle!”
I feel your pain 🤣

What irrates me?

Bloody everything.

JobsLot · 15/02/2024 19:50

People who deny your experience.

"Are you coming skiing this weekend?"

"I'm sorry, I can't, my left leg's hanging off"

"Nooo, don't be silly, you're fine, you have to come, it'll be fun"

"No, really I can't. I can't ski with only one functioning leg"

"But it's really fine, you need to come! My neighbour went skiing and they had no legs"

"FFS!!!"

betterangels · 15/02/2024 19:53

People who deny your experience.

Definitely this. I hate it.

feelingalittlehorse · 15/02/2024 19:54

Just being around me really. Drives me nuts.

CruCru · 15/02/2024 19:59

I also get cross when someone won’t accept a polite no and tries to persuade me.

Yes, this makes me cross.

One of my children is slightly overscheduled and, really, can’t fit in any more activities. Trying to persuade me to sign her up to an out of the way ice climbing / llama racing / ocarina making activity gets a bit awkward. I know that other people may like their children to do multiple activities every evening but I know that she is at her limit for now. And asking her directly after I’ve said no is even more annoying.

People (cunts) who:
throw or drop litter
don’t pick up dog shit
tell you their dog is being friendly as it slathers/jumps/all over you
have phone conversations on loud speaker on a train
have shite music on loud speaker on a train
wander lonely as a cloud in front of me
leave chairs out so nobody can get past
who say “can I get?” Instead of please could I have
who leave their crap all over the place on the train.. litter and food packages
walk along looking at their phones
dont use indicators
middle lane bastard hoggers
slow down to 2 miles an hour to turn left

People who say “can I take?” are as bad (if not worse) then can I get.

I don’t know why it annoys me so much but it really does. I noticed a lot of my friends say it who speak English as a second language and I always correct them then feel like a twat for doing it.

People who have their phone on speaker or watch videos with no headphones should be rounded up together and locked in a windowless room and all forced to listen to each other’s phones blaring!

CruCru · 15/02/2024 20:20

People who have a difficult dog but bring it to a smart restaurant (the sort of place that is a special occasion for others). The dog barks and goes mad with rage whenever anyone (staff or customer) walks past it. Several children in smart restaurant get upset about the angry dog. The owners coo at the dog and decide it is fine because it is small.

Same here

People who write 'ddog' or 'dcat' or 'dhamster' or 'dlizard' or 'dgoldfish'. Please - just stop it now. Thank you.

Awwww 😂 why?

My dog/cat/hamster/lizard/goldfish are darlings to me.

unsync · 15/02/2024 20:37

Practically everything irritates me. The main one is people not taking responsibility for their actions/life/children etc.

The older I get, the less tolerant I get of other people's bullshit. I totally accept that they could well find me irritating, but I don't really give a shit about that either. Fortunately I am fairly self contained and don't crave attention.
