I get really irritated when someone won’t accept “I don’t know” as my answer. Something along the lines of:

”Sarah is having a baby! Do you know when it’s due?”
”No, I didn’t know she was pregnant”
”Her oldest is four and she didn’t want a big age gap so it’s probably soon” <Looks at me expectantly>
”I didn’t know she was pregnant so no idea I’m afraid”
”But when do you think it would be?” <Looks at me expectantly>
”Still no idea. Between now and six months?!?”

Or

”I need to hire a nanny. How do you recruit a nanny?”
”I don’t have a nanny so couldn’t say. Have you talked to Sarah, she will probably know?”
”I should probably talk to a nanny agency, which one should I call?”
”I’ve never hired a nanny through an agency so no idea I’m afraid”
”But you must have some idea!”

It has to be okay to sometimes just say “I dunno”.

People who complain about cyclists. Well, I consider them very low intelligence, basic people, so I get to feel superior to them I guess.

Well that’s the stupidest and most humourless comment on the thread.

How very basic to write that.

When you're walking towards a large gr spread out over the pavement and no one moves for you but expects you to move either into a wall or oncoming traffic.

People with halitosis

IKEA customers. The family groups who fill the aisle and dawdle, or stop and then look all hurt when you want to get past.

Can you tell I went to bloody IKEA yesterday?

And parents who take their kids to IKEA just to bounce on the sofas. All IKEA stores have a creche. Does anyone ever use it?

MissingMoominMamma · 28/02/2024 20:37

Whistlers.

The noise makes so uncomfortable, I want to cry.

People on Teams meetings being interrupted by their kids or pets. That sort of thing was cute and funny for about a fortnight during the first lockdown, but most of us have moved on and just find it unprofessional and irritating.

Not people per sa, but that new song ' sweatpants ' by Paloma Faith makes me want to tear my ears off .
Sorry to derail

purplehotdogs · 28/02/2024 21:14

The very existence of other people frustrates me some days!

But:
Dog owners who allow their muddy dogs to jump up on other people and make no effort to apologise for the muddy pawprints
Tailgaters
Middle lane sitters
People who allow their kids to climb on seats and make no effort to clean up after them
Shop assistants who don't acknowledge you when you come to pay but merrily carry on chatting to their colleagues about banal shit
People who pull out in front of you when there is nothing behind you and then proceed to dribble along 10mph under the speed limit
Neighbours who play loud music in their gardens every sunny day
Neighbours who have stinky bonfires in their gardens every sunny day

And probably a ton more. Obviously I have zero annoying habits and am a perfect neighbour 😁

Pickled21 · 28/02/2024 22:33

People that are always woe is me but competitive with it. So you've got a cold but they've got pneumonia. Those that want details about your life such as how kids are getting on at school, how much you earn but will evade answering if you ask them the same questions.

EasterEggsComeAtMe · 28/02/2024 23:37

People suggesting therapy to those they don't know when they express strong emotions about something. It's an absolute disgrace and a huge overstep.

WotsitsMadeIn1927 · 29/02/2024 01:58

Selfish and inconsiderate people
people who interrupt others when they’re talking
people who are unnecessarily rude
people who can talk incessantly behind your back but not to your face
dishonest people
people who drive 10-15 mph an hour slower than the speed limit and don’t understand why everyone else is getting irritated
people who don’t clean up after themselves
jobsworths
double standards
Cyclists
motorbikes
lorries
cars
people in general

An old friend (who I was once close with but who has moved abroad) has ghosted me. I am sad about this but there really is no way to make her reply to my messages and it’s getting rude to keep messaging her.

A lot of friends who met her through me keep asking about her. I know she was fun but it’s getting really awkward. Telling me that I should really make the effort to get back in touch makes me feel worse.

I know quite a few people who all seem to think that someone (not them) should pay more tax to fix the troubles of the world. I have pointed out to a couple of them that they are high earners so, if more tax is to be paid, it will probably be paid by them.

Nope. They don’t mean them (ordinary high earners). They mean ultra wealthy people. Who are quite rare and have a lot of income not in the UK so not taxable.

People who talk at you about themselves and assume you’re really interested.

Rudeness is the only way to deal with this as in quick change of subject.

CruCru · 26/02/2024 22:50

In that case, do you make a point of sitting in the aisle seat next to someone already in the window seat? Or do you block off the window seat, making someone who wants it ask to sit there?

It depends if the train is likely to get busy. Usually I sit near the back of the train (going into a terminus, so people like to be closer to the front) on a three-seater, so someone takes the other end seat and the middle one stays empty because the back of the train doesn't get busy enough.

If I am getting on an already busy train I try to sit next to a slim lady!

Just stop and force them to go round you. They will mutter "so rude" but clearly, you are not the rude one!

Yes, totally agree!

43ontherocksporfavor · 29/02/2024 18:05

Work colleagues who show you countless photos of their grandchildren on their phone. I like children but unless it’s a really funny photo I’m not bothered. They don’t mean anything to me!!!

tiredmama23 · 29/02/2024 18:06

Fucking everything. Especially on here 😂

Thinkbiglittleone · 29/02/2024 18:11

Rudeness.

People checking their phones mid conversation- rude.
People letting their kids interrupt me - Rude

Bitchiness - if you have something to say, say it the person, I don't want to hear your shitty comments about someone else, when in all honesty you only know half a story anyway, and that half a story you have heard, is 2nd hand.....off another bitchy person.

People not saying thanks when I let you out.

Thinkbiglittleone · 29/02/2024 18:12

Oh liars. I hate liars.

I can see me keep adding to this thread.
