My new sliding door was either installed incorrectly by my builder or they sent me the wrong one . But I am so upset I can’t make sense of it 😞

it was meant to slide to the left when looking from the outside ( so when stood in the garden) see pic below.

BUT I have just gone to the hose to check it ( it’s been fitted I was at work) and the direction of the sliding door is correct however the key lock is on the OUTSIDE ! It should be on the inside.

what do you think ? Did the builders fit it wrong ? Or was I sent a door that should slide to the right ?

do you think I will get a replacement door as it has already been fitted? It was expensive so I am really upset

I have similar that locks from inside and out, it's odd that there's only a lock on one side, what's on the inside at the moment, could it be a night latch type lock goes on it?

Containerhome · 14/02/2024 21:54

I thought I had unusual magical doors then 🤣

Quizine · 14/02/2024 21:54

Can you post a picture of inside and outside as it is now?

There could be something amiss, but all exit doors should have a lock either on both sides or on outside with thumb turn inside.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/02/2024 22:00

Is there a lock on both sides of the door?

You said there are screws on the lock that's currently inside, so there must be?

Why do you think it's wrong?

I don't understand the typo in your last post, what should it say?

Quitelikeit · 14/02/2024 22:01

Surely there’s a lock on both sides?

To get in and out?

Debdelight · 14/02/2024 22:07

The slimline profile you mentioned is the thickness of the aluminium as in it gives you slightly more glass than a standard patio. This has nothing to do with the locking mechanism or what type of barrel you have (whether key both sides or key outside and thumb turn inside)

Horseradrad · 14/02/2024 22:43

Sorry I will try to give more information.

Currently, there is a thumb turn on the inside with visible silver screws (door is black )

The lock on the outside is a key lock.

i specifically wanted a slimline door where the line in the middle is only 34mm thick when looking from the inside .

this slimline is currently on the OUTSIDE. And the internal sight line is much wider.

This is why I think they have given me an incorrect door. Because if I flip it and put the slimline side inside , the wrong side will slide
