Can tell the lurgy is about to get me, loads of colleagues have got it this week and I’ve felt knackered today, achy, head ache… please tell me your tips to help it go away quickly?!

Make a flu bomb. It's hideous, but does do you good.

1 tsp of turmeric, ginger, garlic, cayenne pepper. (1tsp of each)
2 tsp of runny honey
1 tbsp of lemon juice

Top up with boiling water - or put in a cup of hot tea, if you prefer. No milk

It's what I dose the family with when they are poorly. Genuinely, a lot of those spices are good for inflammation, so help with clearing your nasal passages, etc.

Well thanks very much ladies

I'm now sat naked covered in the best Stork margarine
Staring at a glass of 2 squeezed lemons , wondering how I'll get into bed in this state

Don't believe anything you read on the internet 😩

😂
But I don’t recall anyone saying you had to be naked.

But back to the topic - A heavy dose of vitamin C usually helps for me especially if it is early stages. I have been known to eat those big tablets you’re supposed to dissolve in water raw.
Works for me more often than not. But, I admit, it may be psychological at this stage.

As someone who gets the lurgy regularly due to being immune compromised heres what I do…

If you can sleep sleep sleep
fill up on any and all drugs you can take ( I know I will get shot down but I always take more than the box says. Not a lot but as soon as I feel them wearing off I too up, I don’t wait the 4-6hours)
Honey in hot and cold drinks, what ever helps you hydrate.
i don’t take extra vitamins, the reason I get ill so much is because my immune system attacks my body so I don’t feed it with immune boosting foods or vitamins.
Fresh air, ventilate your room or house as much as possible, old germs out fresh air in.
shower as much as you can to wash away germs.

Rub lots of Vicks vaporub into the soles of your feet, put on some cosy socks and into bed to sleep it off. The Vicks really helps but I have absolutely no idea how or why!

Cloud 44 my sons both had the flu for a week each.....i dodged it. No idea how 😂😂

Just before bedtime make up a Lemsip with boiling water then add some honey and a dram of whisky. You'll sleep like a log.

Mammma91 · 14/02/2024 19:22

I swear by the infants calpol plug in. It’s a smell of Vapor rub and it fills the room, I use it an hour before bed and an hour in the middle of the night when I evidently wake up feeling sorry for myself. That and lots of fluids and rest. DS and DH have just recovered and I have (so far!) narrowly avoided it!

OMGitsnotgood · 14/02/2024 19:24

We swear by high dose vitamin C at the first suspicion of an incoming cold, continued til better. Lots of water & paracetamol.

Home made chicken soup with either barley or egg noodles, leeks, carrots, sweetcorn and peas. If you are veggie/vegan, make green soup with all green veg you can imagine and vegan pesto with chilli flakes added.

Very hot bath and wash your hair. Don't know why but hair wash is essential. Dry hair, obv.

Wrap up in PJs, bedsocks, fleece dressing gown. Put spare PJs by bed in case of a night sweat.

Make hot water bottles and put in bed, at feet and chest height.

Take paracetamol and ibuprofen if actually feeling ill. If you have a blocked nose, use a facial steamer. If coughing, put menthol rub on chest, throat and soles of feet.

Take a hot lemon, honey, fresh or dried ginger, clove and tumeric hot toddy to bed. Add whisky if you want. Drink it and go to sleep early.

When you wake up, shower and a berocca or fizzy vitamin C, more painkillers and fresh coffee.
