They're very certainly was when posters are alleging that people don't care about innocents of ANY faith being slaughtered and making outrageously nasty comments about others. Then getting the responses they don't like deleted.

I understand why Azhar Ali can't be replaced but don't understand how Starmer thinks it's a good look for Labour to accept a mealy mouthed apology.

You're right. It looks like compelled speech the way its phrased. Since most people don't think Azhar Ali was being Antisemitic its most unlikely he himself does. Or Starmer . Or Sunak. But thems the new rules and Steer Calmer helped to write them.

So people in the Westminster media bubble have to pretend it all means something terribly portentous. While the rest of us watch children being murdered.

I'd like Labour to be consistent in their approach to dealing with MPs/candidates/members who are accused of anti semitism. Starmer has previously said there would be zero tolerance of anti semitism. Starmer and Louise Ellman appear to be tolerating Ali who they think said something anti semitic.

As I said, be consistent, have zero tolerance of those they believe are anti semitic. Withdraw support and put up a better candidate in the general election.

that man is clearly an idiot. also starmer has pushed too far the other way following corban and now bleeding the Muslim vote so will follow earlier bad decisions by equally bad decisions in the opposite direction. I wish he wasn't the only option to get rid of the tories

on a seperate note Israelis themselves are already asking hard questions of their government re why their security which is meant to be so advanced failed so abysmally. my thought is Netanyahu was too busy trying to save his smarmy criminal arse from going to jail and took his eye off the ball.

Because it's not politically expedient for him. Labour could lose a significant number of votes from Muslims over what's happening in Gaza, but are unlikely to lose many if they just wait for the news cycle to move on and the attention to go away, which no doubt will happen shortly.

Maybe Starmer does really care about antisemitism, maybe it was just to differentiate himself from Corbyn and give the appearance of being a strong politician unafraid of making "difficult" decisions.

The apology, Louise Ellman saying he needs to rebuild trust with the Jewish community. If (big if) George Galloway got in at Rochdale, hopefully a good Labour candidate could get him out.

BBC news reporting Labour have withdrawn support. Not surprised at this though surprised at how long it took.
