So, I was just wondering what people generally earn part time?

I work 24 hours per week and earn 20k per year (1600pm) would you be happy with this?

I mean I work 2 hours a month and earn £250k net so I’m probably not the best person to ask.

😅🙂

@Youcannotbeseriousreally unless all your teacher friends are in SLT, I highly doubt they are all on 60k FTE. Unless there is something I'm missing like you live abroad.

After another thread the other day about teacher salaries I looked then up. Even if not SLT a teacher with a few years under their belt can be earning £55-60k

Neena86 · 12/02/2024 19:16

I do 24 hours a week and probably earn around 13,000 a year.

I am not getting why NHS staff is so arrogant. I don't care, I have private health care. This is the reason I stopped NHS visits - lots of mean, unhappy drama queens..

Pointless thread.

Agreed.

I think you're gonna get high earners replying more OP, so whatever your salary is it will seem low by comparison. It's much better to look at the UK average for a true comparison.

I always comment on these threads because I have a high salary, if I had a low salary I'm pretty sure I wouldn't comment at all.

If you're above the UK average you're doing v well for yourself - better than more than half of the population.

(My salary is £87k btw, not including bonus, but I do live in London)

Would I be happy with that? No I wouldn’t. If I did 24 hours a week I’d be on over £50k so in answer to your question no.

But that’s me, the important thing is whether that £20k allows you to live a lifestyle that you are happy with and enjoy.

Well, well, well, looks like we've got ourselves a philosopher of the keyboard here! Ah, the majestic defender of freedom of speech, bravely typing away in the digital arena! But oh dear, it seems like you've got a bit of a mix-up between freedom of speech and freedom to be a keyboard warrior.
Ah, but worry not, noble knight of the online realm, for I shall take your sage advice to heart and reflect upon my allegedly rude demeanor. Perhaps I should embark on a journey of self-discovery, wandering the vast expanse of the internet, seeking enlightenment in the art of online etiquette.
As for my alleged weakness, fear not, for I am as sturdy as a Nokia phone from the early 2000s, unyielding in the face of your textual onslaught! And as for my alleged misery, oh please, my friend, my life is like a sitcom with a laugh track so loud it could be heard from the moon!
But hey, let's not dwell on such trivial matters. Instead, let's raise our virtual glasses and toast to the wonderful world of online interactions, where every keystroke is a potential comedy goldmine! Cheers to you, my verbose virtuoso, may your words be as free-flowing as a river of memes, and your wit sharper than a freshly opened bag of potato chips!

OP I earn what you earn (after tax though) full time so I would love to do ten hours less for the same money (I’m 46).
HOWEVER, I fucked about at school and spent most of my adult life pissing about so I have no one to blame but myself for being on such shite wages

ssd · 12/02/2024 19:37

I work in retail and would love your wage op

Cantara · 12/02/2024 19:39

Remember that everyone on MN would be raging if they earned that for 24 hours pw work due to their massive salaries and multiple niche qualifications. 😉
If you're happy, that's all that matters. Also prudent to remember that many of the salaries mentioned on MN are highly exaggerated.

Loloj · 12/02/2024 21:44

It sounds like your job works really well around your family and home life and your combined income is very good - so yes why not be happy with that?

Some people will say they wouldn’t get out of bed for that but it’s not all about the salary - it’s what works for you and your family and it sounds like you have a good balance.

moomoomoo27 · 12/02/2024 21:53

Delerium1970 · 12/02/2024 17:45

6 figures in nowadays is average salary I would say - especially if you are based in London. 100k salary after tax is around 5k per month +- . You want decent life - you need to make minimum 120-150k (if you want to have new car, decent size house, 2-3 times holidays abroad and look after your family + MOST IMPORTANT - you need to invest, save and put some money asside for rainy day and retirement). Imagine all this listed trying to achieve with 30k salary - is non-sense. What is the point of the life then? Survive? Be realistic. Is not about being rude, arogant or disrespectfull - is about being realistic to yourself, your family needs. Obviously each one is different - some might have rich parents, some might have assets who generates passive income and etc. some might have disability. Life is hard.

London is mainly benefits and immigrants working tourist or low paid service jobs, definitely not 6 figure salaries all round for the average person. Everyone I know on six figures or more has a place in London that they visit for weekends or to own as an asset but they'd never live there themselves.

Everyone who isn't physically required to be there isn't - it's a mug's game to live in London when most people on high salaries can wfh.

It's dirty, stressful, inefficient, overpriced - and for the most part these days, it's shocking how run down nearly everything looks, especially in comparison to Scandinavian capital cities.

Notamum12345577 · 12/02/2024 15:33

@Gotsomedebt That’s below minimum wage though? Unless you are 20 years old or younger

TA. So, it's 17k for 36.5 hours a week 39 weeks a year.

Sixpence39 · 12/02/2024 22:58

Neverenoughfor · 12/02/2024 11:42

I work 20-24 hrs and I bring home 3.5- 5.5k month. But it’s a specialised craft.
your wage is good is use to work 37.5 hrs for nhs for 1400 month.

What do you do for a job?

Teateaandmoretea · 13/02/2024 05:45

100k is an average salary 🤣🤣💩

Notamum12345577 · 13/02/2024 07:52

@Gotsomedebt Ah, so a pro rata wage of 17k then

BricksTricks · 13/02/2024 07:56

theeyeshaveit82 · 12/02/2024 11:37

No i absolutely wouldn’t

why? because i am a professional, years of exams to get qualifications, years of experience and currently on substantially more than that

But… if i was not in that position and, let’s say a school leaver with no qualifications for example, the i imagine i’d be jubilant

the devil is in the detail

This.

What is the point in this OP? If the job and hours work for you, great. If you feel you are underpaid based on market rates for your skillset, taking into account the flexibility, then apply elsewhere.
