Gazumping

I know I’m not being U here. We’re 3 days off exchanging contracts and are now being gazumped by someone who approached the seller directly with a higher offer.

Gutted doesn’t begin to explain it. We’d sorted everything from jobs to schools (moving a fair distance), and obviously spent rather a lot of money on conveyancing and surveys.

We can’t afford to offer more for the property. It’s our dream home in our dream location and we thought we were so lucky!

There’s nothing we can do, is there?

Not if they want you to up your offer, no.

Ask if they are pulling the deal. Also, the estate agent will want to know as they are likely still owed commission regardless.

Sorry to hear this. It’s really unfair. This happened to me and the gazumpers later pulled out. Sellers came back to me and I got it in the end. Hope it all works out for you.

It was the estate agent who told us. Which I know sounds dodgy, but we do trust them. They are trying to convince them to stay with us since we’re so nearly a ‘done deal’ rather than an unknown.
