For me it’s got to be those massive bloody clocks made up of parts which get stuck to the wall. We’re house hunting at the moment and they’re in almost every kitchen. Those and navy walls nearly always coupled with wicker furniture and cheese plants - it feels like such a ‘done’ look now.

Interested to hear yours!

Kitchen islands. Very dated and vulgar imo.

hilarious!😂

Nesbi · 12/02/2024 15:07

Given the number of posts on this thread it is clear that people love to talk about the things they hate far more than tell people about the things they love!

is that because people or more worried about being judged if they expose the things they like, is it that they feel hate for things more intensely than love?!

Prunesqualler · 12/02/2024 15:07

Now I know what metro tiles are😊
I think these look great in a loft apartment or historic building.

I might use these in our kitchen if we re allowed to tile it (listed, so have to ask council). Modern flat tiles wouldn’t work. The alternative is none at all, which is fine, if we have to.

So I think metro tiles have their place in the right type of building.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/02/2024 15:10

Clocks with parts on walls, grey paint (Farrow and Ball bleurgh boring colours, velvet sofas, leopard print and try hard fabrics... the raised circles plastic sort of lino that you can put on floors eg in kitchens.

I like stylish decor but some of it, especially statement pictures, I shudder at.

A Thread on the interior design things you love could be interesting.
I agree though a lot of people may come on to judge

Oh they're not too bad in a certain type of building!

Someone started one off the back of this thread - seems less popular though!

Absolutely!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/02/2024 15:13

People love but I hate - converted spaces, like convert living and dining room into one... I think if it's done very well and with good soundproofing e.g. extension it works well but otherwise it can be to me, just doing it for making more space, sake.

I love - spiral staircases whether wrought iron or more modern ones. Roof gardens/terraces, in houses or bigger ones like Kensington Roof Gardens (RIP) with the flamingos there!

Nobody was asking what we love.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 12/02/2024 15:18

Signs telling me what to do. I think I can work out that this room with the toilet and shower is the bathroom, thanks. And I do NOT need telling to Live Laugh and Love, I will do those things in my own time, not because I've been instructed by four foot letters on someone's living room wall.

NoCloudsAllowed · 12/02/2024 15:18

I don't mind a bit of grey, but OMG places where absolutely everything is grey and you feel like you're in an ashtray, it's grim

I hate a wallpaper border

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 12/02/2024 15:20

I like and don't like (usually a richer persons house) bright white shiny houses, often with brighter colours to accent them. Takes a lot of cleaning though!

There's another thread running in conjunction with this one and very few posts on it so think people are quicker to be haterz

Gold or other colour pineapples, dislike, ditto metal hares etc.

ghostyslovesheets · 12/02/2024 15:22

I don't think people should be offended - it's a thread about personal dislikes, although some posts seem a bit sneery don't take them to heart.

For example - someone dislikes DFS sofas - I have 2 - and they are black leather! I mean the horror, but I like them, they suit the house and 7 years in they are still looking great - oh and I shop at HB, BM and Dunelm

Ditto hot tubs. Discustin 🤮

Writing on walls obviously.

I don’t understand the posters saying you shouldn’t have loads of books on display because you can’t possibly have read them. I have read well over a thousand books. Books make me feel happy and cosy.

I hate those dining chairs with giant ring pulls on the back. So ugly

Love this post the most. Kitchen islands are vulgar.😂😂😂

Not sure what HB is
But agree some shops are hated by some and loved by others. Thank goodness for individualism
Ive been trying to buy antique but just can’t resist a Billy bookcase from Ikea still.

The Instagram account house to home at no1 is my idea of hell

Very footballers wives. I’d need sunglasses indoors to deal with the glare.

Pleasehelpimexhausted · 12/02/2024 15:34

I know it’s not interior design per se but I also really can’t stand houses that stink of air freshener. It can be Glade or that one everyone raves about at the White Company and I still hate it.

What a ridiculous sneery thread. Might I suggest that, instead of ripping other people's choices apart, you all post photos of your stunning interiors? No, didn't think so.

That’s…… not how you create a media wall 😐

Home Bargains

I love buying second hand as well - I have a beautiful (to me) 1940's oak 2 door cupboard in my living room - from Ebay - couple selling had purchased is when they married - on top sits an old letter/phone book organiser which was £5 from our local tip shop! I also have a g-plan coffee table.

My mum inherited my grandfathers donkey bookcase - it is the only thing I want her to leave me!
