Not really, it’s all nonsense and a despicable way to exploit emotionally vulnerable people. Anyone can tell you they have these abilities. And it will be as true as when I said it, i.e. not true at all.

I was experiencing a whole load of intense supernatural/paranormal activity when I visited a medium, bewildered and feeling a need to make sense of it all. Part of it made sense, but tbh it provided only one piece of the jigsaw. To be honest, I got more reassurance from a lady on a spiritualist forum, who gave her advice and support freely.

I hope you can get some reassurance and peace too, OP, however you do.

Mumsnet isn't the best place to look for this type of thing.
They are all experts and their own opinions are FACT. They know everything. Or think they do.

Nowhere is a good place to look for mediums because they don't exist.

There are plenty of people pretending to be mediums though.

Psychics can only provide you with snippets of information OP, and although it's fascinating that some people seem to know a huge amount about you without ever having spoken with you before, it often doesn't help you move forward. Sometimes I think it can actually get in the way of moving forwards because people often get overly focused on what the psychics have told them. Saying that, they do exist, and I'm just an average mum like everyone else on here, I never used to believe in all this stuff either. Not until I rather randomly stumbled upon one in real life in my 30's.

Look into cold readings. I once saw Derren Brown and he performed several ‘readings’ on people exactly like a medium would. Just to prove how not real it was

There’s that very short guy in the press who calls himself a medium. He was jailed but has managed to escape.

I know for an absolute fact that mediums are frauds who are happy exploiting often extremely vunerable people .

When you say you "need to contact someone", OP, do you mean a medium, or someone on the other side?

People on here are poorly informed or have simply met the wrong people. The woman I met in my 30s didn't do any form of 'cold reading' or me, nor any form of 'reading' at all. Oh and she didn't charge me anything. No advantage taken, only a few gifts happily shared.

The whole point of expert cold readers (and that's what she is as no-one has psychic abilities), is that they make you think they're psychic.

And if you already believe in psychics, she was half-way there before she even opened her mouth.

There's a clip somewhere on the internet of Derren Brown cold reading a couple, and even when he explicitly told them afterwards exactly how he did it, they still wouldn't believe he's not psychic 🤦‍♀️

But there aren't any true psychics. There are just a bunch of people who are very good at cold reading.

I would imagine most are charlatans but I had a very odd encounter with a women in Hereford. Looked absolutely 'normal' IYKWIM! At the time I had no social media account, had moved to the area a couple of weeks before and I was bored and curious about work promotion. She proceeded to talk a load of old nonsense which I wrote down, and nothing about my work. Came home and had a giggle with DH who went white as a sheet when I showed him what I'd written down. Everything she said meant something to him that no one else knew about during his childhood. Also about my brother who had died before I was born and my grandmother whom I never met. My mum told me when I called her and laughed at the memories. She was just so blasé about the whole thing. I do believe she was the real deal. I just don't think there are many. I think like others have said, try other ways first. You are likely to be preyed upon.

I always notice on threads about mediums that people say things like this.
But nobody ever says, “so I wrote that she could see a house with the number 22, and a blue door - and an apple tree back left of the garden. Flopsy bunny and Rex the cocker spaniel were buried there, and they want you to know that they don’t mind that you left their bones behind in 1978, when your dad Anatoly’s treadmill import business went into receivership and the house was repossessed by Barclays.”

@Testina this made me giggle but it was genuinely such VERY specific stuff. And so much of it! I have tried for years to figure it out but still don't have the foggiest how she did it. There was literally no way the random things she was talking about could have been known. And I'm a completely non woo person. Would love to know how she knew.
