Amazon refunds with returning the item? [Edit by MNHQ]

Since when did this start??! I've just done to return an item, packaged it all up etc and then on my account it just says they have issued a refund but no need to return the item? Why on earth wouldn't they want the item back? Is this a mistake?!

So should I order that Ferrari from Amazon or not....

SoupDragon · 10/02/2024 14:05

It seems to be fairly random as to whether they want the item returned or not. I've had to return ridiculous small items before but been told to keep bigger ones.

I haven't had this for years. I had to post back a wet, broken item this week, and another heavy item that would have cost more for shipping than the cost of the item.

The should refund shipping if it's broken

I've got a breast pump that I couldn't return (despite it being faulty) I called Amazon and they refunded and I've kept it.

I've been trying to sell it on Facebook but they keep on blocking and don't know what to do with it.

Right. And why are you trying to sell it if it’s faulty?

If it's faulty surely it needs to go in the bin or down the tip?

10ThousandSpoons · 10/02/2024 14:26

Its better for them. They don't want to deal with it so make you do it

Hapagirl48 · 10/02/2024 14:29

I had this once too. TBF, it was a pile of crap and I wasn’t surprised they didn’t want it back.

Why are you selling a faulty breast pump. If it's not good enough for you why would anyone else want it?

It seems quite random. Once I was told to keep an item when I’d received an incorrect item. However a couple of years ago I received a broken glass bauble - I sent a photo to show them - and they wanted me to return it!

Before Christmas I bought a barbie dream house for about £120. As Christmas approached I realised it wouldn’t arrive in time so I contacted Amazon to cancel. They gave me a full refund without cancelling it so we got a barbie house for free.

So many companies are doing this. In aspirin to amazon. A lamp from a lighting company refunded me and advised me to pass the lamp on. I ordered some makeup, laura gellar, from America and seperately that Il Makiage stuff from here, both refunded with the request that i pass it on, gave it all to my Mum! I'm sure they're other examples. The other thing with amazon is the refund once you drop the item off at the PO, which must mean they don't even care about the condition of the item. It's a topsy-turvy world at the moment.

TheShellBeach · 10/02/2024 15:59

I wanted to return a really good jacket which DH got - it cost £119.

They just let him keep it and refunded the £119.

It didn't fit so we gave it to DS.

MissRheingold · 10/02/2024 16:10

I've never had to return an item and have always been given a refund and told to keep for whatever reason. It's standard practice with them.

Spare parts?
Maybe they know how to fix it?

SaltBlossom · 10/02/2024 17:27

I had to return leaking coffee machine descaler which was awful to package up, I really wish they had just refunded me!

rainbowsparkle28 · 10/02/2024 17:37

Yep I had this recently with a low cost item was pleasantly surprised!

Georgyporky · 10/02/2024 18:29

I bought a very expensive chef's knife, with cosmetic damage to the handle.
I was told to keep it; apparently it's classified as a weapon & someone at Amazon would need to sign a receipt for it.
