I just nodded off in an MRI scan - and they're noisy buggers! I am exhausted though.

I once, many years ago, fell asleep in a nightclub but there may have been cider involved that time!

Sports Day at the children's primary school. Woke up when I felt a shadow across me and there was the headteacher with my two either side of him. Everyone else had gone home

MissingMoominMamma · 09/02/2024 16:11

Fell asleep pushing a pram once, only momentarily, and I woke with a real jerk. I was absolutely exhausted though.

ScottyDoesntKnow · 09/02/2024 16:12

Not me, but one of my bridesmaids fell asleep on the loo at our wedding reception! She had 3 under 4 at the time and it was her first night out in ages, bless her. She requested we make the wedding child-free so she could let her hair down 😂 If you’re on here, H, love you to bits 😄😘

oh I've also fallen asleep in the MRI scanner I thought it was quite relaxing.

When I was about 20, I went to a midweek gig in another city and got home really late. I was on the bus to work the next morning and I woke up when my head touched the shoulder of the man sitting next to me. He was old enough to be my dad and, thankfully, very nice about it Blush

And like a PP, I fell asleep standing up on holiday. I was in New York, it was my first experience of jet lag and my head started nodding while waiting for the green man at a crossing.

Mrsjayy · 09/02/2024 16:16

i fell asleep at work I was a student nursery nurse and the teacher was doing story time and I drifted off for a second I was sitting on the floor with the preschoolers!

5foot5 · 09/02/2024 16:16

Fell asleep in a lecture at Uni, unfortunately I was sat on the front row of the lecture theatre. When the lecturer turned on the overhead projector it made a buzzing noise which I mistook for my alarm clock because I jerked awake and shot out my hand to turn it off.

TwylaSands · 09/02/2024 16:18

Orthodontist chair. While my mouth was clamped open. End of a busy day at work i must have been exhausted.

Tarkan · 09/02/2024 16:21

Sleeping in a tent in a car park at the Le Mans 24 hour was quite fun but at least I meant to sleep there.

I used to regularly fall asleep while walking home from work as a young adult. I wasn't totally asleep but I would close my eyes and when I opened them again I would be much further along with absolutely no memory of any the time my eyes were closed. The scariest time doing that was when I realised I had crossed a road somehow.

On the floor at Luton airport but I was shattered and we had 9 hours before our flight home.

My mum apparently slept through an earthquake once, I think when camping. One of the British earthquakes so not a super strong one but my dad said it was still really noticeable.

Watching MUSE at the Pyramid Stage at Glasto. I may have had to have little lie down mid set and nap on the grass! I was absolutely wasted! 😂

I once fell asleep while kissing my dp 🙈

I once fell asleep with an ex while we were doing significantly more than kissing 😆🙈

Less embarrassing was the time I fell asleep behind the decks after my set (I hasten to add) there was a lovely big pile of coats & I just sat down "for a minute" & the next thing 😴I was eventually carried to our car & driven home to bed, it had been a hectic week in my defence

At the dentists, having an abscess drained with no anaesthetic. It was just a couple of weeks after giving birth to an apparently insatiable insomniac, and the dentist had a gift for talking in a relaxing way while he worked without expecting any answers.

DH, who'd been left literally holding the baby definitely had the worst of it.Grin

Also in the dentist's chair while having a root canal.

Latenightreader · 09/02/2024 16:27

I fell asleep at choir practice. It’s community choir so very relaxed, and I’d had a really busy few days with an unwell child. I don’t think anyone noticed, but my head gave huge jerks a few times.

When I was ten my Mum took me to a concert. We sat near the front on very steeply tiered seating so really visible. I was fighting sleep and apparently I went to sleep completely just as the choir sang “He sleepeth not”.

I went through a phase of regularly dozing off at the cinema. I fell asleep during Solo and missed the entire heist - apparently there were Wookies?

Gettingbysomehow · 09/02/2024 16:29

On the toilet on the ward where I was working nights. It was my 10th 12 hour night shift (1980s) and I was so tired. The other staff thought I'd collapsed in there and called someone in to force the door open.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 09/02/2024 16:33

Loads at work, listening to kids read, observing others teach, during invigilating, whilst marking etc, do this a lot. If I am sat down and actively doing something I will fall asleep.

In theatres, during the Lion King, cinemas, planetariums are really bad. Any bus tour.

During meetings, this can be embarrassing.

Once during dinner but I was ill.

I have to be really careful when I am driving and take lots of snacks with me to nibble and keep myself awake.

Occitane · 09/02/2024 16:39

It's funny a previous poster mentioned planetariums. Usually I struggle to fall asleep so this doesn't happen to me much.

We went to the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. Had a great day visiting all the exhibits, I really enjoyed it, I love anything to do with space travel. We had something to eat in the afternoon and went to watch the 3D film about the astronauts preparing for their space journeys. It had been a very busy day, and it was very hot. I sat down to watch the film and could not stay awake. It wasn't that it was boring, I was enjoying it! My eyes felt so heavy, so I decided to close them and listen to the film. I fell asleep and my family kept waking me and laughing at me!

Mrsjayy · 09/02/2024 16:41

1st night after dc1 I fell asleep in the cinema through the whole film it was the best sleep I'd had in months.

Dorriethelittlewitch · 09/02/2024 16:49

After winning a cross country race in my early teens I apparently fell asleep standing on the podium. Didnt wake up when my hated coach carried me back to the bus and essentially tucked me up on the backseat either.

Of course everyone else found it hilarious. Must have heard every variant of a sleeping beauty joke going. In my defence, we'd travelled back from the UK the day before, sailing overnight and I can't sleep at sea so I was definitely lacking sleep.

FarmGirl78 · 09/02/2024 17:20
  1. While stood at the bar waiting for the barman to pour a round of drinks at Uni many many years ago.
  2. While having a brain scan when I was having neurological issues years ago. I apologised for dozing off, and the woman said "Don't worry, I usually do these tests on people in comas to check whether or not they're technically dead, so it's nice doing it on someone who actually talks back." 😱
cerisepanther73 · 09/02/2024 18:26

I've fallen asleep in the cinema a few time bit of family joke about that, and in my town libarey...
theres something about the peacefulullnes and warmth cosiness,
and just having something to eat earlier...

cheapskatemum · 09/02/2024 18:41

Took DS3 & his friend to watch WWF Raw live in Nottingham for his 8th birthday. DS2, who has ASD, had been up the whole night before, which meant I had too. I noticed myself nodding off on the M1, so had to stop at the next services, tell my 7 & 8 yo passengers to amuse themselves & take a 30 minute nap. You've guessed it, I caught up on the rest of my sleep during the show while Kane was noisily annihilating Batista & the rest of the crowd were going wild. Bliss!

Cirque du Soleil in Vegas - I blame jet lag!

SunnieShine · 09/02/2024 18:47

At the back of a Pogues concert.

Mercedes45 · 09/02/2024 18:50

The last 4 steps of the stairs. Under a pool table. And a vegas toilet. Have a photo of the last one thanks to dp. Not my finest moment

Thisoneisneutral · 09/02/2024 18:50

On the toilet at work!
