To have a pink sparkly unicorn bedroom.

I was so excited to have a DD, pink dresses, doing her hair, unicorns and rainbows.

Nope DD is now 3 and a total tomboy. Hates dresses as they are 'disgusting' hates pink as her favourite colour ìs blue and won't even bat an eyelid at a unicorn.

Going to decorate DDs bedroom and she has chosen a space theme, I have shown her lovely pink and purple rocket bedding and curtains, but no mummy it isn't blue. Bang, there goes my lovely pink bedroom, with white furniture, princess bed and rainbows.

AIBU to decorate my own bedroom in pink with unicorns and rainbows to make up for it 🤣

She will have to share the bedroom with DD2 in a couple of years (she's currently 7 months old), hopefully DD2 will like how pink everything is going to be.

Just out of curiosity, what are you going to do if DD2 doesn’t like pink?

Two seperate things here OP:

  • You are perfectly right to decorate your own room as you wish. Go for pink if that is what you like
  • Please stop referring to your daughter as a 'tomboy'. She is a girl with her own mind and taste, that's it. I think it is really sad to still believe that girls should automatically be attracted to pink colours and fluffy unicorns...stereotypes don't do girls or boys any good. Just let her be her own person.

Have whatever bedroom makes you happy, same as your daughter.

Why don't you do your bedroom with pink sparkly things and uniforms? Why does she have to put up with it?

Go for it OP. You could have a pink sparkly wall and everything! 🤣

Neither of mine currently have pink rooms, one has grey and the other went for a sea themed. Anyway top tip - go for neutral carpet and walls and when they grow out of whatever theme, you can change the room without lots of hassle and expense. We did that with DD1 who had a purple animals, until she decided it was too childish, and she asked for new bits for her birthday and we changed the room without having to re-decorate. (Both have rugs on the floor in keeping with their themes - mainly in DD1s case to try and protect the carpet from make up, although I think that ship has sailed…….

I’ve a daughter who prefers blue. Currently it is stitch but previously it has been other colours and themes. I’ve often bought her clothes from the boys section. When younger there seemed little option in the girls sections for blues and greens. Harry Potter was a good them as often came in all 4 colours. She has the blue ones. Now she’s older there’s more options in the ladies and older girls clothes for non pink girly stuff. She still has some things from the boys section though.

Hmmm... maybe DD2 will just have to sleep in the garden shed. Jk, I'd redecorate of course! I'll probably give them both their own mid sleeper and paint half the room how DD1 wants it and the other half how DD2 chooses.
