For a child, do the passport office accept a deed of name change that has been done via a solicitors or do they want one from the Royal Courts?

I've had a look on the gov website and it just sends me back to the deedpoll part

Yes they definitely do. My dd changed her name at 16 from ex surname to mine and it wasn’t a problem at all. We didn’t even use a solicitor, just a free copy online and her teachers witnessed it. Bank wouldn’t accept it though. So we had to do passport first and then take passport to bank.

Yes. I’ve done it twice no problem. Once when I went back to maiden name before divorce was finalised and when I remarried, because of the way we hyphenated our names the passport office decided to be awkward about it so had to do a deed poll.

I am the same as @Afolnerd we have just done my 15year old DD’s. We printed out an online form and got it all signed. Got passport done first and then used that for eveything else.

Does witness it mean the teacher signed the form? I didnt know we could ask them to do that

How old is the child? I think it’s different if they are under 16 as everyone with PR has to give permission for a name change

You don't need to do either. Just a big standard deed poll certificate that you can print off yourself. I've done it twice with my children plus with a signed letter of permission from their father. You truly do not need to pay anyone anything to change your name via deed poll. If you pm me, I'll send you the blank forms and info sheets.

Yes it needs to be signed by 2 witnesses.

We got two teachers watch her sign the form and then they signed to state that they watched her do it. Could be anyone not related though.
We just used her form tutors as they were happy to do it.

Is it possible someone could send a link to the free copy of the deed poll please? That would be fantastic 😊
